"Relic on the Wet Path," my intention was to capture a moment of stark discovery and the poignant interplay between neglect and a fragile, enduring presence. This piece explores the subtle drama found within overlooked spaces, where remnants of the natural world intrude upon human-made desolation. The focus is on a lone, pale, and seemingly abandoned fruit, perhaps an apple or a similar sphere, lying on a dark, wet, and gravelly path. Its vibrant yet muted color stands out against the muted blues and blacks of the environment.
The path itself, marked by puddles and scattered debris, recedes into a blurred, shadowed background of trees or an overgrown area, hinting at a hidden or forgotten place. The dim, overcast lighting emphasizes the dampness and the textures of the ground, creating a sense of quiet melancholy and introspection. This piece captures a singular, almost melancholic presence illuminated by a narrow, dramatic beam of light. The central focus is a lone coconut, cast onto a rough, dark ground, its pale form catching the light and standing out as an unexpected, almost surreal element in the desolate scene.
The environment itself is characterized by deep shadows, textured walls, and uneven surfaces, hinting at an alleyway or a forgotten corner. "Desolate Passage," my intention was to capture a moment of profound isolation and the haunting presence of both human and natural remnants within a decaying urban environment. This piece explores the interplay between abandonment and the quiet, almost surreal, dignity of discarded objects. The narrow, grimy alleyway, with its oppressive walls and debris-strewn ground, sets a bleak and evocative stage.
In the foreground, a vibrant, solitary lemon and a dry leaf stand out against the dark, damp earth, unexpected bursts of life or traces of a forgotten moment. Further down the path, a figure, clad in a light-colored, almost spectral garment, recedes into the shadows, their form indistinct, adding to the sense of mystery and transience. The dim, diffused light, perhaps from an overcast sky or distant source, barely penetrates the gloom, emphasizing the atmospheric chill and the pervasive sense of neglect. Artist Statement
“Cognition, Interrupted” explores the tension between internal identity and external environment—how thought, memory, and self-perception are shaped, obscured, and sometimes overtaken by the structures we inhabit.
The face emerges not from flesh, but from architecture—suggesting a self constructed by systems rather than solitude. The branches crossing the eyes reference organic growth that is neither gentle nor violent, but inevitable. They do not blind; they filter.
Set within a nocturnal urban landscape, the work reflects a contemporary condition: the mind rooted in nature, yet confined by design. Stillness becomes resistance. Silence becomes form.
This piece is part of my ongoing investigation into liminal identity—where the human figure exists between embodiment and object, presence and erasure.
