Last week we sent a bunch of Scout Books to SXSW in Texas with @rohdesign and @austinkleon for their Visual Notetaking 101 Panel.

These guys take awesome notes, and they designed this pocket notebook to offer you a chance to create beautifully illustrated notes, too. The cover features illustration exercises for better notetaking.

Count yourself lucky if you were at the panel and received one of these! They ran out right away! Collectors item.

The thirteenth release in our Designer Card series features a beautiful illustration by Portland artist extraordinaire, Jill Bliss!

Printed on 80% Recycled Environment 80# White Felt Cover stock, this card was offset printed with three soy-based Pantone ink colors.

Jill explores the natural world in her signature style, and these poppies are just the latest in her constantly growing collection of gorgeous illustrations of flowers, plants, and even tree houses!

These Scout Books were made for the Brand New Conference this Friday, Nov. 5th! Brand New is a one day event held by UnderConsideration on the development of corporate and brand identity projects. They have quite the line-up which I can imagine makes for a super full and intense day of identity talk. Don't worry though, there will be an after party.

The Industrial Design Society of America went all out with a three-pack of custom interior Scout Books, complete with a pull out section! They were created by Ziba for an IDSA “cross-craft” discussion about DIY design held right here in Portland, Oregon. The three-pack consists of one part sweet Portland city guide, one part informative conference/symposium particulars, and one part handy, blank sketchbook.

So nice, right?

This shelf of Pantone soy-based inks is probably one of the most photographed things in the shop! They seem to be instant eye-candy to the graphic design students we often give tours to.

Schlage came to SMS for a creative display that promoted their unique new product line, Schlage LiNK. The display needed to be versatile to allow it to be used in both inline and endcap settings. SMS created an eye-catching display that was completely modular allowing the client to use the display in multiple settings, with common parts-saving money and simplifying in store-processes. SMS designed a spinner unlike anything the lock aisle has ever seen, with a unique shape, second-surface acrylic graphics, and pullout panel inserts to educate consumers about product use. The display was inspired by a more European feel, taking a fresh, modern approach and veering away from the traditional wooden mounts. The display also features a 3 push button LCD explaining features and benefits of this exciting new product as well as a hidden button on the display that functions as a training video for store employees.

Luke Ramsey is awesome. He creates beautiful, intricate pieces of artwork that include zines, murals, paintings and prints. He also runs Islands Fold, an independent publisher and artist residency in B.C., Canada.

We ran into Luke last summer at the Portland Zine Symposium, and saw him sketching in a Scout Book! Quickly gave him another, and within weeks he had filled it up and sent us images. At long last, here is what the fantastic Luke Ramsey did with the 32 grid pages of a Scout Book.

Awesome! Thanks, Luke.
