Wondering around the back streets of Bangkok little shops like these are frequently seen - in a world where most things are disposable it's wonderful to see a craftsman at work making repairs and extending the life of items

This Male Pileated Woodpecker is so hard at work. The male builds the nest and hopes that the female likes it, if not he will build another. I'm really hoping that she likes it and moves in so I can get some family pics. Look at those claws. Warrington PA.

When Flickr friend Paul Grillo told me that he was posting an image today that was taken at the 2013 Iowa State Fair, where Paul and I had an opportunity to meet, it prompted me to take a look at my archives from that trip. I came across this one, which was taken at a booth at the Fair. And even though it's an image shot during August that year, it's somewhat appropriate for the season we're in, because I believe I see some carvings of St. Nicholas by this carver on the shelf in the background. :-)

Paul's excellent shot from the Fair is here: flic.kr/p/2hXkzxQ

This is a Craftsman cottage built in 1935. It is 1008 sq. ft. It is really well cared for and is on the Rappahannock River in Virginia. I am not a realtor and this is not for sale.

I just wanted to show that not all of the houses around here are falling apart.

Have a nice weekend, Flickr Friends.

He was creating a Naval Officers sword blade from a blank piece of carbon steel - you just have to admire and appreciate his skill.

There is something magical about this 1926 craftsman bungalow. Can we save it? Maybe!! A preliminary inspection revealed “good bones”. We will have to see what we learn from a more in-depth inspection after the interior is cleaned out and the exterior is saved from nature’s attempt to take over the house.

The Craftsman can be described as a pseudo twin lens reflex camera circa 1949...

There are many elegant Craftsman houses in Pasadena, erected in the early 20th Century. It makes walking around the neighborhood here delightful, especially when the golden hour has arrived.

DRS's 57003 and 47501 'Craftsman' have just crossed over the river Derwent while working 2T32, the 1445 Workington to Maryport 'floodex' service.

November 2009 was the wettest month across the UK since records began in 1914, with Cumbria being the worst affected county. The Derwent is fed from Borrowdale, and on the night of 19th November, the Borrowdale area recorded 314mm of rain in a 24 hour period - a record at the time for the UK.

That night a storm surge caused widespread damage in the North West of the UK, and on the river Derwent, several bridges over the river were destroyed. A police officer was killed when the bridge he was directing traffic on collapsed.

The town of Workington, which straddles the river, was effectively cut in two, with the only access between the two sides of the town being provided by the surviving rail bridge.

DRS, the local rail company based in Cumbria operated a free train service between Maryport (to the north) with Workington (to the south of the river). This service ran until May 2010, by which time road bridges were available again.
