Old Hamburger Stand on Harrisburg in Houston,TX. Probably built late 1940s to early 1950s. 5.13.2012

Penny invited me in to her "rustic" she says, I say artistic home early this morning.

Dear friend, here are 5 things you should know:

1. Like it or not, we are ALL sinners: As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous—not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” (Romans 3:10-12 NLT)

2. The punishment for sin is death: When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. (Romans 5:12 NLT)

3. Jesus is our only hope: But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8 NLT) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23 NLT)

4. SALVATION is by GRACE through FAITH in JESUS: God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT)

5. Accept Jesus and receive eternal life: If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 NLT) But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12 NLT) And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. (1 John 5:11-12 NLT)

Read the Bible for yourself. Allow the Lord to speak to you through his Word. YOUR ETERNITY IS AT STAKE!

Sincerely,

Someone who cares about you

The view is spectacular at the Island Grill and the food is great on Wolfe Island in the waters of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River just a stones throw from Kingston, Ontario Canada.

To get to the island one travels from Kingston on the Wolfe Islander III Ferry or from upper New York State in Cape Vincent on Horne's Ferry or from Simcoe Island on the Simcoe Island Ferry. The ferry from Cape Vincent though only travels on demand and the one from Cape Vincent opens around the beginning of May and it closes down around late fall.

Come, discover Ontario. It's a great province with a lot of history! You just never know, maybe GP and I will see you sitting here at this table!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all know that I appreciate your comments, however, awards and invites are not necessary.

www.landscape-design-advisor.com - This magical outdoor lighting design was created by Land Mechanics, Inc. in Southern California. The landscape designer integrated a series of landscape lights throughout the vibrant planting areas in the outdoor space to provide security and safety in the backyard. Underwater pool lighting creates a shimmering glow across the quiet water in the evening. In this photo, the recessed patio lights give the outdoor living room an intimate feeling, but additional outdoor lighting fixtures are installed for entertaining.

... Between the house and the 2 story rental/workspace (or whatever it is) in the back, close to the alley.

We began dining at Vespucci’s in late June of 2012. We continued to dine there right into the infamous Covid 19 Pandemic. For the past couple of years we’ve missed the place as our health issues and health issues in general kept us from dining out. Yesterday we returned at long last with our local kids and grandkid. Once again, it was great.

I wrote the following on July 18th, 2012: “Donna and I have dined here twice in just over a week. Vespucci's serves up the best Italian cuisine imaginable. We discovered Vespucci's in an article in Cobb Life Magazine and drove way out Canton Road to give it a try. Worth every single mile. The restaurant is located just before Jamerson Road on the west side of the highway. There is a Rite-Aid Drugstore just north of Vespucci's at that corner. I've geotagged the location on my Flickr map. Everything on the menu is made in house. That includes all the salad dressings and sauces, the bread, the fresh pizza dough and the desserts. The proprietor, Ray Atlaschi, is most cordial. The service is excellent as well. Vespucci's features a full bar. Our rating ★★★★★.”

www.landscape-design-advisor.com - The warmth of an outside fireplace is the perfect way to enjoy a cool evening in Southern California. This luxurious outdoor living room was designed by online landscape designer, V3 Studio Berzunza, and boasts a breathtaking view of the city lights below. Natural stone pavers add an elegant touch to the patio flooring. The built-in fireplace features rock construction with plenty of space for decorative accents. Integrated cabinets on either side of the outside fireplace provide additional storage.

www.landscape-design-advisor.com - This lavish patio landscape design features an expansive covered patio that was designed and constructed by Freidin Design and Construction in Southern California. An elegant wood roof shelters the outdoor dining area from California sea breezes, while the open-air lounge area is ideal for stargazing around the warmth of the fire pit. The architect chose a combination of stone, stamped concrete, and wood for the luxurious patio landscape design, along with modern outdoor accents to complement the style of the home.

-Correct Design and Expansion Joints are critical.

-Expansion Joints allow the concrete to shrink and expand without unsightly cracks.

-Steel Reinforcement Bars, often referred to as Rebar, is a necessity for successful concrete. 3/8" to 1/2" rebar 12" on center is a good rule of thumb.

-Expansion Dowels allow the concrete to be connected at the expansion joint, however, allow it to swell and contract, but limits vertical movement. You know this is missing when one piece of concrete sinks and the one next to it stays the same. They are not doweled together. Drought or alot of rain can alter the soil and cause it to sink or rise.

-Concrete Depth is also very important. This is based on size of the slab and soil conditions. 4" deep concrete is standard. 6" maybe required on smaller areas with alot of weight.

-Concrete PSI varies based on the amount of the concrete mix. Concrete is a mix of Portland Cement, Aggregate, and Water. The More Portland Cement, the stronger the PSI. The cost between 2500 PSI and 3000 PSI is very small. We only use 3000 PSI or stronger on all projects.

-Aggregate is the second part of concrete and comes in several sizes and colors. Most concrete construction uses a 5/8" rock and is generally never visible. Some Pea Gravel and colored rock varieties can be used for an exposed aggregate look.

-Water is also key, too much water reduces the strenth of the concrete. Concrete should be thick, not runny. Its easier to manage when there is more water, so be mindful of how much the finishers are mixing in.

-Plastic Chairs are also very important. Chairs allow the Rebar to sit up off the ground. When the rebar is on the ground at the time of the pour, it may actually hurt your concrete. It will likely be exposed on the bottom side and will eventually rust, expand and crack, which may work its way to the top of the concrete, resulting in a cracked patio or driveway.

-Concrete Retardant is available during hot times of the year and allows the concrete to dry slower in the summer months reducing the chance for hairline cracks. The cost is minimal, the result is maximum.

-There are several Finishes which can be applied to concrete. These finishes vary based on style and the use of the concrete.
