The characteristic Leipzig Messehof was built by Georg Werner for the Leipzig merchant Gottlieb Barthel in 1747-50. The Baroque façade on Fleischergasse makes it hard to assess the dimensions of the interior courtyard behind it. The irregularly shaped courtyard is surrounded by four-storey houses with high roof ridges. There are many shops and the »Barthels Hof« restaurant in the “Barthels Hof” now.

My first visit to the renovated and expanded Frick Collection. The museum closed in March 2020 and had temporary space in the former Whitney Breuer building, finally the museum reopened in April 2025. Unfortunately, they have a very limited photography policy - the courtyard is one of the few spaces where it's allowed. Previously for a few short weeks in 2014 photography was allowed throughout the building. It's a beautiful place filled with masterpieces.
