Notes: Necessity is the mother of invention. During the Great Depression, Matt Lightner's grandfather, a farmer in northern Missouri, would eat crushed saltine crackers mixed with milk to get by, a gruel that Matt ate as a dessert as a kid, sometimes with fruit. Last night, he served a dessert of saltine ice cream, with strawberry preserves, fresh strawberries, and "saltine crackers" made of meringue.

This year in August, thousands of Buddhists gathered at the Europe Center near Immenstadt for the annual International Diamond Way Buddhism Summer Course, opened by Lama Ole Nydahl on the second of August.
This year’s two-week course included empowerments into Diamond Mind and the second Karmapa given by Lama Jigmé Rinpoché, empowerments into Guru Rinpoche and Amitayus given by Lopon Dorji Rinchin Rinpoche from Bhutan, who taught at the Europe Center for the first time, and the Mahamudra teachings of the third Karmapa, Tilopa and Lama Shang, given by Lama Ole Nydahl.
