HAPPY FRIDAY, THE 13TH.....
Sailing Away (Chris De Burgh - 1988) ….
Waiting at the water's edge,
Watching all the ships as they are heading for the harbour wall,
I was just a boy, I was just a boy,
Dreaming of the wide world, dreaming of the wide world;
Watching as they disappear,
Reading out the names of all the places I have never been,
Looking out to sea, staring out to sea,
Dreaming of a wide world, dreaming of the wide world;
I wish I was sailing away, sailing away,
Sailing away, with you tonight, with you tonight;
Walking down another street,
Underneath the red lights, I am watching where the shadows fall,
Looking at the girls, listening to the girls,
Dreaming of a new world, dreaming of that new world;
I wish I was sailing away, sailing away,
Sailing away, in your arms tonight,
In your arms tonight;
I wish I was sailing away, sailing away,
Sailing away, with you now, with you now...
Taken on Monte Isola, the island so beautifully placed in Lago d'Iseo. It is so small that you don't need a car and will be much better of on a bicycle or a motorbike.
Just writing about this delightful place in Italy makes me feel happy!
Listen to a totally lovely rendition of above here!

I don't know.
I guess this is what boredom and legs that don't function properly does to ones mind....
Came out of work today to find my back windshield shattered. I had parked up against a retaining wall that has a slope with some gravel at the top of it. I think a rock fell down and hit the back windshield. Nothing was stolen, it just made a huge mess. Blah.
I'm glad I backed into the parking spot though. If I had pulled in front-forward, it would have been the front windshield shattered instead, and that would have sucked a lot more.
...for that moment in life when you suddenly feel this is an OK look. What's the equivalent female clothing style?
I know, as sure as recently discovering that socks with sandals is actually quite comfortable, that one day I will probably look exactly like this, and I fully expect younger people to point and laugh. To be honest, I think they might have started already.
North Creek flowing through "the crack", Zion National Park. One of the things I looked forward to seeing...red rock with rushing white water....and oops I shot it in black and white! ha ha ha ha!
I am pleased to see the signs are already in place.
This is my new baby, a Hasselblad 500CM, built in 1977. I even managed to get 220 film for it... and just in case, a 120 magazine.
Thanks to Simon for being such a good sport.
Three panoramas taken at the start, middle and end of February. Looks like the opposite of Spring.

... but not in the sense of "getting sobered up." I've never been the party animal or bar hopping type. Not even the quiet, drink-at-home type. But I now have had to confront some hard realities for the first time: that for most of my life I've been routinely going out on a limb and not thinking much about it. Cruising along, still somewhat under the illusion of being bulletproof, immortal, and all that.
One week ago, in less than a second, that outlook totally changed. One little bitty misstep and suddenly I was seven feet below where I was supposed to be, along with a heavy board that likewise dropped. Unfortunately, the board and I must have collided on the way down. My ribs had more "give" than the board. At first I had no idea how bad it was. I was just there, lying flat on my back on the garage floor, unable to move. The wind had been knocked out of me. There must've been several minutes of gasping and wondering. Then, gradually, a little relief, and a feeling that, at least there weren't any major cuts or lacerations. But then ... "how do I get up and out of here?" The door was open and there's a street only about 10 feet away. From time to time people walk by. I'd have to try calling for help. Did so -- for how long I have no idea. Nobody passed by. Not a good situation. Tried getting up a couple more times but the instant pain made it feel out of the question. Eventually though, there seemed no other alternative, other than just laying there indefinitely. With some agonizing pulling and other contortions I did get to my feet and stagger to the house. There, my wife took over and things started to get better. I slept for some hours, ate a little, then slept most of the night.
The weekend wasn't TOO bad. I thought the injury might just be contusions, maybe a cracked rib or two. But there's not much one can do about things like that other than be patient and tough it out. Sunday night, though, convinced me there was more going on. Thought I'd have to go to the ER in the middle of the night. Did hold out till the morning, a much more reasonable time for getting involved with hospital stuff. They -- the ER folks -- got me right in, did the standard x-rays, and reported I had eight rib fractures.
Well. Damn.
But, as I'd expected, there's not much to be done about such a situation, other than to follow a number of cautionary instructions, take pain pills, and be patient. Also, I found that a rib belt helps.
Now, one week down, maybe five, six or so to go. Hopefully, the lessons learned last a lot longer than the discomfort and inconvenience of it all.
This photo was taken in island Crete, in country Greece. Picard was nearby. It was partly sunny when I made this photo. The prognosis was mostly sunny and nice. Just arrived in Nea Alikarnassos in Kriti coming from somewhere in Bayern (distance: 1819km, speed: 449km/h) Taken on Sunday, May 31, 2009 8:23:36 PM and context-tagged with IYOUIT.
An electrical outlet on the wall beside my bed shorted out (I had nothing plugged into this outlet) and somehow sparked or got so hot that it ignited my mattress/box spring, and bedsheets on fire.
Luckily, I was home at the time and not sleeping in the bed.
This could have been much worse...
...crazy.
