Costa's Hummingbird. I listened for their signature high pitched whine and found this male displaying. As with many hummingbirds he had a high and low defense perch. I waited until he got onto his low perch and he was extremely tolerant, allowing me to approach within 5 feet (as has been my experience with other Costa's as well). I quietly setup at his perch and captured him resting in between catching insects. Anza Borrego is surrounded by high mountains to the west and this blocks the setting sun early, providing some nice diffused lighting that brought out the gorget. Was very happy with this pose and the image quality of the APS-C sensor.

Stacked lightning images from my trip in 2014. I didn't have any idea about stacking lightning at the time of when I shot these. Mostly, I was hoping for some cool lightning shots and a neat time lapse. Hope you enjoy.
This little guy was resting on a spiny twig in early morning light. He took off to the LEFT, so I missed the good take-off shot.
He's got quite a bit of pollen on his head!

Es una playa preciosa, de arena fina y dorada, con unos colores de verde esmeralda y azul entrelazándose y haciendo un lugar maravilloso.
This little girl was perched on a walkway fence, just people watching. I saw people get within 4 feet of her and she didn't have a care in the least.

This Little Hummingbird is VERY rare in BC Canada.
One of the smallest Hummers in North America .
Both Sexes
Weight: 0.1-0.1 oz (2-3 g)
Lots of food here for this Hummer as can be seen, its all on her front.
They drink nectar from many desert plants, especially chuparosa and ocotillo, and they snap up small flying insects in midair. Male Costa's Hummingbirds dive in a broad U-shaped pattern, while giving a high-pitched accelerating and decelerating whistle.
