The Nation’s Oldest and Most Prestigious Science and Mathematics Competition

Started in 1942 as the Westinghouse Science Talent Search, the Regeneron Science Talent Search (Regeneron STS) recognizes and empowers our nation’s most promising young scientists who are developing ideas that could solve society’s most urgent challenges.

Each year, nearly 1,900 students enter the Regeneron STS, submitting original research in critically important scientific fields of study. Unique among high school competitions, the Regeneron STS focuses on identifying, inspiring, and engaging the most promising scientists among the nation’s high school seniors.

The Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology (KIPAC) celebrated two decades of scientific discoveries and achievements during their 20th Anniversary Community Day, held at Stanford University, on April 15, 2023. Founded in 2003, KIPAC is one of 19 independent research labs, centers, and institutes at Stanford that is operated by the Office of the Vice Provost and Dean of Research. It is a community of more than 150 scientists who explore new fronts and challenges in astrophysics and cosmology through theory, computation, experiments, and observations. Cosmology Institute Director and Professor Alexander Vilenkin drops an apple onto the head of May 2011 graduate Eray Sabancilar in the hope that he might be inspired in the manner of Isaac Newton. (Sabancilar is heading to Arizona State University for a postdoc).

The ceremony was performed in front of the “antigravity stone,” given to Tufts in 1961 by Roger Babson.

Just a thing I wrote. Posted it on 4chan and got some positive feedback.

They each represent one field: manuscript illumination, philosophy, cosmology, history, jurisprudence, and poetry, respectively.

Oddly enough, I did this drawing of William Blake's cosmological schema for my PhD., and then (sensibly I think) I cut it out.

Cosmic Ikons are simple pictures based on the amazing spectacles streamed from space and ground telescopes. The Gold backgrounds symbolise belief that these are manifestations of a Creator's art.

This Ikon symbolises the ability of young children to be entranced by the wonders of creation
