Heading out when I looked left and saw this visitor 2 doors up...pretty sure its a Mistle Thrush (bigger, pale wing edges, please correct me if wrong)...a nicer angle not possible without trespassing and a knock on the door!

Only the center was exposed correctly. Everything else was pulled from the shadows. I liked the impressionist type look it left.

… and getting my attention. She doesn't quite accept my work on the keyboard when she wants attention (snuggling on my shoulder while I type is only good for a brief time.) She is more than happy to block keyboard access and ability to see display both. Tikki also gets attention by opera arias, moving pictures hanging from walls and sinking claws delicately into my leg but let’s stick with this. Happy Caturday 5 June 2021 “Getting Attention.”
C'est difficile de faire une photographie correcte avec cet oiseau tout noir (et qui emmerde tout le monde... ☺)

Another of my damp day walk in Ayr near the beach, these small dunes and grasses were at the side of the path alongside with a nice handy wall to put my tripod on... tried some hand held at first, but just didn't work. Also couldn't overly see if I had the correct focus, so tried taking photos starting at infinity and slowly moving the focus back from there.
I found this small and very cute weevil wandering around my garden. The wee pest wouldn't stop wandering(!), so I had to compromise on the dof (much less than I'd have wanted; maybe next time). Also, the colour was a bit dull in the image, so I added a tiny hint of warm colour in post processing.
I think this might be one of the Sitona species, but happy to be corrected if it's not, or to get more specific species details if it is, if anyone knows.
From one of many adventures with Anita, this is Harper's Ferry West Virginia and is where the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers come together. Afterwards known as the Potomac which travels on to Washington DC. The bridge on the far side is also a train track, but there is also a pedestrian walkway and is actually a part of the Appalachian Trail. I always thought it would be cool to be on the walkway when a train was coming through, but not after the train derailed and took it all out. It has since been repaired, but .... I think I won't walk it anymore! Another Archive dive because no new computer yet. I have the computer but turns out I don't have the correct connector cables! Frustrating to say the least as each drive out to my computer store is an hour drive one way...... Maybe by tomorrow I will be up and running and this laptop can have a rest! LOL Have a fabulous day everyone! :)
Leaving the static display in the Invalides, in the center of Paris, is this French Navy Panther. That is my first correct picture of that type, I'd wanted to shoot one for quite some time!
During Bastille Day, a few examples of French Air Force, Navy and Army helicopters landed in the Invalides to be visitable by the public. A great idea if you ask me.
In 1995 I was working for the Santa Fe in the Power Bureau in the SOC Schaumburg. We had just started taking delivery of the SD75M's and if memory serves me correctly these were the first 2 delivered. Here they are on an Alliance rolling Eastbound at Toppock. They should of been painted yellow as they were lemons with a high out of service ratio. This in my opinion was just another nail in EMD's coffin.
being knowledgeable is essential, because, to me, nothing appears quite so difficult as to pose a model well and light him correctly, for the very reason that it seems so simple to do.
In the interest of photography and photographers I cannot urge amateurs enough to understand that photography is not a trade but an art and that, as a consequence, their feeling and their knowledge must be reflected in their works just as the feeling of a painter is reflected in his paintings :-)

I found this quaint little creature, I think what we call an elephant weevil (Orthorhinus cylindrirostrus), in my Gold Coast hinterland garden where I was removing dying lilly pilly trees. I am not sure of its correct identity.

I remember exchanging a few emails with John about some interesting species we could possibly photograph. However, time passed, and as our departure for Australia drew closer, I contacted some professional guides to fill a free day we had in Melbourne. All of them suggested night spotlighting to observe the Powerful Owl and this particular species. Since owling wasn’t part of our plans due to the exhaustion from traveling, I convinced myself that I wouldn’t see this species.
However, the day after meeting John and Leoni in person, they took us to this woodland area to show us an incredible technique that they use when want to photograph passerines. It involves attracting them to a water puddle. Unfortunately, it had rained the night before, and while we waited by the puddle, hoping some bird would feel an irresistible thirst, John started wandering through the woods. I didn’t understand why and didn’t ask. After some time, he rejoined us by the puddle, and after a while, he suddenly exclaimed with great enthusiasm: “Oh, there it is!”
It took me a moment to realize what he was pointing at, but following John’s direction, I finally noticed the bird, right in front of us, on the other side of the puddle, just looking at us with its eyes half-closed.
At first, I thought it was a nightjar, but John quickly corrected me, it was something much better.
My very first photo of this species, genus, family (Aegothelidae), and order (Aegotheliformes).
It was there whole time, but sometimes, it just go down inside of the hole.
Thank you very, very much, jfmfennell and Leoni, for a great day and for being such wonderful and kind people.
Hello winter! Time for active recreation in nature. There are many places for skiing in my city, which makes me very happy.
This type of physical activity is suitable for people of any age.
Leisurely skiing has undoubted benefits for the body. Moreover, the positive effect manifests itself in two directions at once - both physical and psycho-emotional condition improves.
Skiing is a great way to boost your immune system and improve your physical health. You can get rid of the tendency to constant colds, strengthen your body, and become more resilient.
Even leisurely skiing entails the consumption of a large number of calories. On average, an hour of riding burns 9 kcal per 1 kg of weight. For example, a person who weighs 70 kg will get rid of 630 kcal in an hour's walk. It is quite possible to lose weight by skiing even slowly. In addition, various muscle groups are strengthened, which gives the body definition.
Any active activity has a positive effect on the respiratory system, and that in the fresh air - especially. But it is important to breathe correctly when skiing - through your nose, then the benefits will be more significant. Skiing perfectly ventilates the lungs and helps remove harmful substances from them. In addition, due to increased blood circulation, the lungs and other organs are better supplied with oxygen.
In the process of walking, bone tissue is strengthened, joints are maintained in working condition, muscles are trained and strengthened. Specific movements, such as pushing and sliding, have a positive effect on the functioning of the entire musculoskeletal system. If a small child skis, he develops correct coordination of movements faster, and his bone tissue and skeleton develop more actively. Skiing is also recommended for people with spinal diseases. Thanks to regular walking, you can get rid of scoliosis, protrusions and other pathologies.
And many other benefits...

With the usual Siemens Charger out of service, train 371, the Pere Marquette, from Grand Rapids to Chicago was entrusted to a 32-year-old B32-8bwh. It's a bit after 8am and the cloud line was directly overhead allowing for a sunny run-by at Burns Harbor, IN.
I took a picture of this same house in late April of the preceding year (see remarks below). I tried a number of times to correct the difference in the colors but was unsuccessful.

Approaching I-35 with a warm load of pellets. I really like those wide nose SD40-2's like the second unit but the tunnel motors are growing on me. But it's tough to miss with a consist like this in December 2021.
When we were finishing our trip in Bavaria, in München Ost we spotted a member of the legendary Olympiazug family and were very surprised to find out that they still exist and run. We had started digging into the topic of the Olympic-trains, and it turned out that they also run in... the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr and Köln, where we were staying with our family.
More digging was required to find out where and if they actually run. There was one answer - the line S68, from Wuppertal to Düsseldorf Hbf and occasionally to Langenfeld in the Rhineland. A few days later, we set out on an epic journey to the suburbs of Düsseldorf to see the class 420 trainsets. We were afraid, that none of the S68 trains would be the ones we had hoped for, but we were quickly corrected - all of them were the 420!
We visited many different places but none of them were very good for pictures, because of the ultra dense suburbia. Out of all, I like this one the most, and it shows 420 936 (please correct me when it comes to the numbering, I have no idea how the trainsets should be described :p) arriving at Eckrath as one of the morning S68 services from Wuppertal to Langenfeld.
A few days after we had found out that the S68 has started running mere days before, after a very lengthy suspension period of around 2 years (was that due to Covid?).
I was also very surprised to find out that on Thursday 10.10.2024, the last S68 train ran on this route, as I can't see it in any DB timetable since then. What happened to them? And more importantly - what happened to the Olympia trains?

An image taken at Buttermere, in the Lake District National Park. Very clam waters made it ideal for some reflection images. This view is looking towards Red Pike, Grey Crag and High Crag ( please correct me if i'm wrong on the names )
At last I fetched out the correct lens for this job to catch the evening sun during the last (?) of the really warm weather. Too hot for me but these exquisite creatures like it. Taken in our garden, in no way at all do I have green fingers but it's always amused me that the buddleia variety is "Black Knight".
Many thanks to all who comment, fave or just enjoy looking, it really is very much appreciated!
