… and getting my attention. She doesn't quite accept my work on the keyboard when she wants attention (snuggling on my shoulder while I type is only good for a brief time.) She is more than happy to block keyboard access and ability to see display both. Tikki also gets attention by opera arias, moving pictures hanging from walls and sinking claws delicately into my leg but let’s stick with this. Happy Caturday 5 June 2021 “Getting Attention.”
I found this small and very cute weevil wandering around my garden. The wee pest wouldn't stop wandering(!), so I had to compromise on the dof (much less than I'd have wanted; maybe next time). Also, the colour was a bit dull in the image, so I added a tiny hint of warm colour in post processing.
I think this might be one of the Sitona species, but happy to be corrected if it's not, or to get more specific species details if it is, if anyone knows.

The cards fell correctly into place this particular Saturday afternoon. New power from Toronto had arrived in Kitchener the night before, and the chances of an all GP9 consist were high. The crew selected these 3 units, put them together, and ran to Stratford with 3 hoppers in tow. I rendezvoused with the train and friends at Stratford, and gave chase after they finished their work there. A trio of GP9s was already fantastic, but here just north of Thorndale the climax of the chase occurred when the skies opened up displaying excellent storm light. Just a mere 100 feet behind us was a pop up downpour that was so close we could feel the mist from it on our backs, but we escaped getting wet luckily. Good power, great light when it counted, and good company from great friends made this one of the best chases so far over my 10 years of rail photography.

With the usual Siemens Charger out of service, train 371, the Pere Marquette, from Grand Rapids to Chicago was entrusted to a 32-year-old B32-8bwh. It's a bit after 8am and the cloud line was directly overhead allowing for a sunny run-by at Burns Harbor, IN.

Approaching I-35 with a warm load of pellets. I really like those wide nose SD40-2's like the second unit but the tunnel motors are growing on me. But it's tough to miss with a consist like this in December 2021.
Soo Line SD60 6036, now known as Canadian Pacific 6236, was leading a much lesser locomotive on an eastbound CP freight at A20 back on Valentine's Day 2010.
Rolling along the C&M and passing underneath the Union Pacific's former CNW New Line, the neat SOO motor was the correct and proper leader.
The Graz clock tower is a 28 meter high clock tower. It stands on the Schloßberg and is the landmark of Graz with its dials with a diameter of more than 5 meters and the gold-plated hands.
The new clock was accurate enough to show minutes. However, unlike today, the hour hand is the larger hand because it was more important to be able to read the hours correctly from a distance.

So this may be a male heliopahnus flavipes jumping spider but I'm not sure (at all). Feel free to correct me.
This guy was extremely determined to keep his lunch aphid. He didn't move too much so I had a couple of chances to get good shots.
Eventually, when I set him free again, on the spot where I found him, he still carried his prey between his fangs.

Nothing gives me more joy than seeing CSX pumpkin units being used in ways they weren't intended to be. George Cheatwood shot this R409 at Akron on August 30th 1999 with the correct leader. JL Sessa collection.
This car was completely refurbished by the owner and the interior featured the tartan plaid fabric with tan leatherette. The wheel covers are not correct for this model.
Someone pointed out to me once that the tradition of hanging the clothes outside to dry is environmentally correct as opposed to spending electricity in drying machines! And I add... It is aesthetically relevant too!

We've been plagued with the awful invasion of the GP20s for 10+ years at this point, but back in October of 2013 there was still enough variety mixed into the local geeps on CP. With the engineer actually operating the trailing GP20ECO, Soo Line 4598 "leads" Winona Job G77 on a unique move east across Winona, with excess DME clay tonnage from Tower CK, about to find a temporary home in the long removed storage tracks once located south of the mainline at the Winona Amtrak depot.
UP's MPECL is seen at Edelstein with a Clinton, IA based GP40N on the lead. This unit enjoyed a brief stint running to Peoria and back as the unit was in charge of a ballast MOW move in the area for a week or so. As a final hurrah, the unit led back north. Not bad!
Looking at this shot of a female waterlily reed beetle (Donacia crassipes) it is easy to think I have messed with the colours on the leaf it is sitting (standing?) on.
This is the proper colour though. It is a floating pondweed (Potamogeton natans) and the leaves vary in colour from green to red.
Speaking of colour, the shimmering in purple of this little lady is less vibrant than the males, but still really pretty in my opinion. In this particular shot, the pondweed leaf makes it appear more like gold than otherwise.
