Captured for Looking close... on Friday! theme: vegetables

Corn on the cob "therapy" for the squirrel community, their consolation for not being able to steal from all the bird feeders. Hilarious to watch them swinging and eating at the same time.

Corn on the cob for Macro Mondays, vegetables

This is my second upload for this week's Macro Monday "Vegetable(s)" theme.

Ralphie and Sally check out the fresh corn we brought home for dinner. These were the biggest ears I've ever seen. They were delicious. The cats love corn on the cob. We give them the leftover used cobs to gnaw one. They fight over who gets them. LOL! Whenever we shuck it they are right there waiting for any kernels that fall. I have to keep the bowl of shucked corn up away from them or they will take off with an ear and devour it.

Summer 2015

Apologies for my sudden disappearance here, Flickr friends. A bulldozer working in our neighborhood cut the fiber line coming into our house on Thursday, so I was without Internet until late Friday. I’ll be catching up with your latest images soon.

It's that time of year of the early autumn harvest. This corn was drying in a basket at a farmer's market. Texture added. Featured front page winner, October 2019, To Be Still group.

Corn has been planted in Peru since at least 1200 BC. The ancient Peruvian farmers achieved a degree of sophistication in the selection and creation of new varieties which adapted to varying terrains and climates.

Peru grows more than 55 varieties of corn, and you can just about find it in any color including yellow, purple, white and black.

The Common Crane (Grus grus) is a gregarious bird. This means that they group together or work with others towards a common goal. During their migration journey, they fly in a ‘V’ shape and change their position from time to time. This prevents the ones at the front from getting too tired.

This grouping together doesn’t just happen during migration. It turns out that they can flock together in groups of up to 400 when taking rest stops or if they find a good supply of food.

The Common Crane is an omnivore and can feed on land or water thanks to its special beak. They mainly eat plants, such as roots, stems, leaves, fruits or seed, and small animals, such as crabs, worms, amphibians, insects, or spiders. The latter form part of their diet during the mating season.

One of the best parts of our house is that we have southern flying squirrels who live in our neighborhood. They appear to be juveniles who might be litter mates. Here are southern flying squirrels at our house in Ypsilanti, Michigan on Sunday January 15th, 2023 just after sunset. The squirrels are loving the corn from a local farm!

It’s that time of year. Sweet, delicious fresh corn.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR VIEWS, COMMENTS, FAVES AND INVITES!

Threw a leftover ear of corn out on the patio. Almost immediately, this chipmunk was there stuffing her shopping bags. Watched her try to carry the whole thing away; didn't work out.

Going for biggest and best in the local agricultural show this year.....then, win or lose, I hope everyone in our village is hungry!

The local corn is sweet this year!

ANSH119 # 20 "Corn on the cob"

This is corn, still encased in its husks. From here I would normally peel back the husks and clean out the silk, then slather with butter, tie the husks back together, and roast the corn on a charcoal grill. But today the weather is a bit unsettled, so we will just eat it boiled.

One of eighteen hand-carved marble sculptures that are installed at intervals along Wellington Street West. Each sculpture playfully captures the form of a fire hydrant fused with everyday objects such as local foods, artistic tools and musical instruments.

Chaque sculpture reproduit de manière ludique la forme d’une borne-fontaine fusionnée avec des objets de tous les jours, tels des produits locaux, du matériel d’artiste et des instruments de musique.

Did you know that corn is a fruit? In common parlance it is called a vegetable, but botanically and scientifically speaking it is a fruit. Now I know the difference between fruits and vegetables.

One of the delights of summer for me has been corn on the cob. This was taken on our trip for groceries over the weekend.

Day 221 of my 366 Project

Steamed shrimp and hot fresh corn on the cobb

The green plate is what I painted at Color Me Mine and yesterday I painted the yellow background paper. This color project is sort of making me work for it. I am going to be sad to see it end because it is such a lovely distraction and I love working in the constraints I've defined for myself. Some days there are just too many possibilities and too many options can be hard to narrow. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make plates more of a matte finish and keep them food safe? I appreciate any help, tips, comments, views, etc. Thank you!

That day is over but there is lots of lobster leftover...AND YOU'R ALL INVITED...we`ll have a flickr dinner feast;Bring your own boose since I dont know what you all drink.Wine will be served .

A nutritionist once asked me why I thought of food as a reward....... because it tastes so good?
