This is another one of my mini wood turnings. The base is Betel Nut and the black finial is Corian. The whole thing is only ¾" tall. It's sitting next to a Lewisia cotyledon flower from my garden. Hooray for colour. :)

Just wanted to re-post this to give all my FlickR friends a good laugh !!!
Corian gets hit right in the stomach by the soccer ball during the last game ! He always wanted some more action! He was NOT hurt in this shot !!!! In fact, right after this shot was taken, he turned around and started laughing!
Our team was ahead 2-1 and time was running out. the other team made a bold move and charged down the field, passing and dribbling... the crowd was yelling "DEFENCE!!" ...the other guy got closer to the net and kicked the ball.... this shot is Corian running in front of the ball and blocking it. If he had'nt done that, they would have scored. Let's hear it for Corian !!!
Hi,
Here's what's been keeping me busy this week, a 100% Corian British Bulldog (actually 100% if you ignore the 3mm plywood backboard)
I have been collecting Corian for a while now and had the colours that suited the dog so gave it a go :) it measures approx 9" x 9" x 1/2" and everything is Corian no paint..... the toenails are also solid Corian and measure around 2-3mm x 4mm and as they were too small to hold in my molegrips to saw them I engraved the toenail shape into the Corian toes keeping the outline as clear as possible and then glued a tiny piece of corian into the hole..... I then sanded it down flush with the surrounding toe.... fiddly to do but worth the effort in the end.
Corian is probably harder to match up than wood as the cuts have to be 100% square for them to line up ok but its doable if you have plenty of patience.
I will continue to do more Corian work and also combinations or wood and Corian and maybe even Pewter (have a few ideas in the pipeline) and also glass will definitely be included next year in one of my large pieces for the shows.
There's always something to do with ya scroll saw and I love experimenting.
Hope ya like him
Cheers
Brian
Ps as usual I took this photo with my pocket camera but will take a better one so i can improve the lighting etc.

The finishing process went fine this time, the radial tool paths lend a great quality to the surface. I'll definitely use this for my upcoming ElectroPlastiques show in Akron, Ohio. Thanks to Andreas and Lenny for the help with milling and photos!

Constructed in secret by Corian rebel forces from plans based on south American drug smuggling subs the MS MOD-2 was designed with stealth, speed and longevity in mind. Operated by a crew of 5- 7 men this sub could acted as blockade runners, scouts and coastal defense boats, patrolling up and down the BC coast line in groups which became known as "The Ghost Packs". These packs of 3 subs would often hound US or Russian naval vessels intruding on Corian territory for days, operating undetected below the surface on battery power. When a suitable target was located, usually a fuel tanker or small frigate, the pack would silently dive below the target and fire their ad-hock
torpedoes, which were wire guided to the targets unprotected keel. These torpedoes were usually armed with an ammonium nitrate warhead, which when detonated cavatated the water below the ship, splitting its keel while the subs would slink back into the depths undetected.
