The Beaked Coralfish (Chelmon rostratus) has a very long snout and tall dorsal and anal fins. It has three orange bars and an ocellus on the dorsal fin rays. It occurs in tropical marine waters of the Indo-West Pacific. I saw this specimen at the Sydney Aquarium in Darling Harbour.
The butterflyfish are a group of conspicuous tropical marine fish of the family Chaetodontidae; the bannerfish and coralfish are also included in this group. The approximately 129 species in 12 genera are found mostly on the reefs of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. A number of species pairs occur in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, members of the huge genus Chaetodon. Butterflyfish look like smaller versions of angelfish (Pomacanthidae), but unlike these, lack preopercle spines at the gill covers. Some members of the genus Heniochus resemble the Moorish idol (Zanclus cornutus) of the monotypic Zanclidae. Among the paraphyletic Perciformes, the former are probably not too distantly related to butterflyfish, whereas the Zanclidae seem far less close. Butterflyfish mostly range from 12 to 22 cm in length. The largest species, the lined butterflyfish and the saddle butterflyfish, C. ephippium, grow to 30 cm. The common name references the brightly coloured and strikingly patterned bodies of many species, bearing shades of black, white, blue, red, orange, and yellow. Other species are dull in colour. Many have eyespots on their flanks and dark bands across their eyes, not unlike the patterns seen on butterfly wings. Their deep, laterally narrow bodies are easily noticed through the profusion of reef life. The conspicuous coloration of butterflyfish may be intended for interspecies communication. Butterflyfish have uninterrupted dorsal fins with tail fins that may be rounded or truncated, but are never forked. 31215

Male (bottom) with a group of females and juveniles. Capturing these small fish with the very wide angled Gopro is quite a challenge but the colours are incredible.

To the dentist ... Anthias being cleaned by a white-banded cleaner shrimp. The sea goldie (Pseudanthias squamipinnis), also known as the orange basslet, lyretail coralfish, lyretail anthias, lyretail fairy basslet, orange fairy basslet, orange seaperch, scalefin basslet, scalefin fairy basslet and scalefin anthias, is a species of marine ray-finned fish, an anthias from the subfamily Anthiinae part of the family Serranidae, the groupers and sea basses. It has a wide Indo-Pacific distribution. The sea goldie is found in the western Indian Ocean including the Red Sea, and in the Pacific Ocean as far east as Japan and southeast Australia. It is absent from the Persian Gulf and Oman. The sea goldie feeds primarily on zooplankton. Like other anthias, the sea goldie is a protogynous hermaphrodite; a male retains a harem of five to 10 females, but when the male dies, one of the females will undergo sex reversal and take the place of the missing male. Spawning occurs at sunset, between December and February (in the Red Sea). Nuweiba, Gulf of Aqaba, Egypt.

This beautiful butterflyfish is found along coastal coral reefs throughout northern Australia. It is quite common in the muddy shallows of Darwin Harbour, where it feeds on benthic invertebrates.

The pennant coralfish, also known as the longfin bannerfish, reef bannerfish or coachman, is a species of fish belonging to the Chaetodontidae family, native from the Indo-Pacific area.
Copperband Butterflyfish in Burgers Ocean. The Copperband Butterflyfish or Beak Coralfish (Chelmon rostratus) is found in reefs in both the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
Found at depths of 1-25 metres either singly or in pairs, forming monogamous pairs during breeding. They are usually found on coral reefs or rocky shorelines.
These fish are easily identified by the yellow banding and long snout, juveniles being similar to adults. They grow up to 20 cm in length. This species is territorial and oviparous.
Burgers Ocean, a part of Burgers Zoo (Arnhem, the Netherlands), is a tropical reef, with living corals, coral fishes, sharks, rays and many more animal species from the tropical seas in South-east Asia.
Highlight is a tunnel through a tank with sting rays and sharks swimming over your head.
It consists of 11 very big bassins with a total content of over 8 million litres of seawater.
The largest bassin is protected by the largest window in the world, a 100 m2 and 35 cm thick.
For keeping the water clean there are 10 km in piping and a pumping capacity of 1.050 m3 per hour. They are able to produce an equavilant of 57.000 litres seawater.
In the aquariums of Burgers Ocean live over 3000 fish in 160 species, and over 5000 invertebrates in over 200 species (including 3000 corals in about 100 species), plus numerous polyps and the like.

Pincetvis in Burgers Ocean.
