The industries, especially apparel in the present era is being hit by an unpleasantly hot trend that leaves several retailers, apparel manufacturers, etc., in a situation where they find themselves trapped in Copyright Infringement cases made by copyright trolls. These are the entities that go after the companies or entrepreneurs by opportunistically enforcing their copyrights to make money in litigation. They employ the strategies that make it difficult for people to defend against infringement claims. In general, their strategies include the following steps:

•First of all, they amass vast libraries or stockpiles of copyrights on an array of fabric prints, even which they may not be producing or licensing for paid distribution.

•After that, they send out shoppers to find merchandise made of fabric that’s identical or similar to their copyrighted fabrics.

Indeed, even the basic fabric prints, including floral, paisley, geometric, and more, can be subject to infringement lawsuits. Once the copyright trolls find something, they retain Intellectual Property Law Firms to send numerous cease and desist letters and to file lawsuits. Since the litigation is risky and expensive, most companies prefer settling them outside the court rather than fighting in front of the judiciary. ✅ For view source: bit.ly/2QDtQMc

Looks like it didn't help much, since Rep. Conyers is back with another "Open Access" law, H.R. 801, designed to remove free access to scientific research.

If the Orphan Works Act is passed, all of your copyright holdings will be retroactively “orphaned” and lose their associated protections in the USofA. If you want to keep owning your work, you will have to register each image with a Copyright Office in order to regain said protection. In addition, any future work of yours will have to be registered as well. This will cost you a lot more time, hassle and money than emailing or phoning the Congressional sponsors now. SO DO IT!

The US Orphan Works amendment is not an exception to copyright law to permit the archiving and preservation of old, abandoned works. It is a license to infringe contemporary works by living artists worldwide. Its goal is to force these works into private commercial US registries as a condition of protecting copyrights.

Coerced registration violates international copyright law and copyright-related treaties.

A group of technology organizations and companies have recently come forth with support for Google in its Copyright Infringement battle against Oracle. The group, including Mozilla, Medium, Reddit, Cloudera, along with others, filed a joint “friend of the court” brief in which they urged the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) to reverse a Federal Circuit Court’s verdict that Google infringed on Oracle’s copyright to Java API code in its Android Operating system. ✅ For view source: bit.ly/2FWmoWD

Yes, I do know it can happen to everyone and yes, I do know that this is one of the risks of posting things on the Internet, but still: I GET FURIOUS WHEN I SEE THAT MY PHOTOS HAVE BEEN STOLEN!!! A few days ago I discovered this photo of my friendship bracelets on the site howishow.eu. They have stolen it and posted it on their site without my permission!!! To top things off, they claim to "have things on disposal for everyone to use (or download) for their own nonprofit use"!!! So, not only do they steal copyright-protected materials, they incourage the theft to continue!!! I was absolutely furious!!! I tried contacting the page through their contact form, which says: "If you want copyright-protected material removed from our site, please contact us here." Surprise, surprise: the contact form DID NOT WORK. OF COURSE IT WOULD NOT WORK IF THEY STEAL THINGS!!! I'M THEREFORE POSTING THIS WARNING FOR EVERYONE: THIS SITE IS STEALING PHOTOS FROM PEOPLE AN ENCOURAGES THE THEFTS TO CONTINUE!!! BE CAREFUL!!!

How can people be so inconsiderate and steal other people's work?! The evil nature and the lack of conscience of such thieves surprises me every time... It's just sad to see such unimaginative thieves trying to thrive on other people's achievements...

Long forgotten Litton Industries' Logo "borrowed" by a popular make-up company.

Stephen Weir Continues To Beat A Dead Horse - Was walking through a mall in Windsor, Ontario yesterday. On our way to a movie and the stores had shut down. Noticed this window display. Took cell picture through the security fence. Looks very much like the Litton Logo of old. Of course the Litton Logo Police long put out to pasture, so, I simply cursed the display for old time sakeg

Back in the day pirating was protected against by making the user input a word from a page in the manual. Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego used its accompanying encylopedia as the manual you had to look for. Ah, things were so much more protected back in the day... before scanners... when you were screwed when you lost the giant book unless you had a friend you could call.
