This photo is dedicated to the Copeland family and especially DeAnne.
This lake and the home overlooking it will always have a special place in my heart. It was a retreat where I was always welcomed warmly. There were long conversations that could only be understood by two teenage girls while we were sitting on the balcony looking at the water. Treasured moments were spent at the Copeland home. Thank you.
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I hear thunder. : (
I expected a cloudy day, but it was clear as could be on my way to Ouzel Falls. I knew I would never make it to Ouzel Falls before the light was harsh, so I stopped on the way. Copeland Falls (both upper and lower) is only 1/3 of a mile up a flat easy trail from the parking area.
Ouzel Falls is spectacular, but between the light and the extreme mist, I don't have anything to show for it. Great hike and definitely worth my time to go back on a cloudy day.
Some wonderful falls in Rocky Mountain National Park This is upper Copeland Falls. Very pretty area. Wonderful hike.
From Donaghadee you can see the big Copeland Island there are two hidden behind it. I have never seen the island in such detail before standing on the Donaghadee shoreline. Either it was a very clear morning or my zoom on my camera was working over time...lol. Couldn't resist putting this up. The Islands are a bird and wild life sanctuary now with very rare birds only found on these islands.
There are three islands included in the Copeland Islands: the Great Copeland Island, the Lighthouse Island (which does not have a lighthouse now) and Mew Island which does have a lighthouse. Over a century ago the Lighthouse Island had a population of about 100, including a school master with 28 pupils. In 1671 James Ross obtained a fee farm grant of these and in 1770 David Kerr purchased the islands from the Earl of Clanbrassil. As the islands were a danger to ships a light beacon was made on the Lighhouse Island (Cross Island) in about 1715, it burned over 400 tons of coal every year. In 1796 the new British and Irish Lighthouse Board announced the erection of oil lamps and in 1813 the new lighthouse was built. In 1884 a new lighthouse was built on Mew Island. In 1954 the Bird Observatory was established by Arnold Bennington.[2]
Until the 20th century, the islands were used by smugglers who brought tobacco and spirits through the islands and into County Down

Duple 425 integral MIB 346 was new to Grimshaws, Burnley, as F545 YCK and would spend 21 years with its second operator. Copelands had taken over Thomsons Tours in 1985 and were keeping that name alive on the Duple when seen in Dover on 30th September, 1998. Do any coaches carry the name now?
Built by Arad Copeland in 1879 to span Beecher Creek. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Edinburg, New York.
