We were delighted to see this bird on such a nice perch and was able to show it to a local family who lived nearby. He was cooperative, photogenic and just had a tasty meal based on his blood-smeared beak.

Around 60 American white pelicans are fishing cooperatively. They move together and herd fish in front of the consolidated group. There is a leader (on the left here). When they see fish, they'll dip down and spread their pouches wide, leaving the fish no place to go.

Around 2016, a customer needed a 3-phase service near the end of this line, which prompted Dunn to upgrade the circuit to full 3-phase.

This very nice insect let me take several shots until I got a little too close.

As you can plainly see the Brown Pelicans are much more approachable than the American White Pelicans!! Most of the time the White Pelicans are very skittish and begin to move off long before you even reach for the camera!! If you can catch a Brown Pelican after they have settled in on an old tree limb on the bayou they can be most cooperative!! Some will allow you get quite close as this particular specimen did!! They can be very cooperative! Photo taken on Horsepen Bayou!

Finally got a good photo of this elusive bird after years of trying. :-)

Burnley, Hammerton House. The former Burnley Co-operative Central Store, on Hammerton Street, opened in 1885, extended in 1889 and again in 1899. Mainly designed by G B Rawcliffe, with the latter block by Thomas Bell - all Burnley based architects. There was a meeting hall and boardroom at 1st floor level. Grade 2 listed. In the 1970s the Co-op moved into Charter Walk, and these buildings closed. They have now been subdivided into several businesses.

Was trying to get a picture of the House Finch on the Smoke Bush, to emphasize its coloring but it gave me no such opportunity.

Swarm of baby seagulls flying on the beach of Algarrobo, Norte in the Central Coast of Chile.

A few words about technique...or lack of it. This Dragonfly was perched on a leaf extending out over a pond. I couldn't lean out far enough to see it in the viewfinder...so I switched to live view.

That let me hold the camera out over the subject and view it on the LCD view screen. Lots of shots...burst mode, hoping for some where the Dragonfly was both centered and in sharp focus.

This bee allowed me to do quite a photo shoot before exiting my Hydrangea bush.

We had just left the car when we spotted a Kestrel in a tree right next to the path. Of course I was shooting right into the sun. However, he flew over to a tree across the path and hung out for a bit and let us have a good look at him.

I have lived in Peterborough for four years now, and this is the first time i have noticed this.

Looks like the coop was in JUST a bit of a hurry to get the line buried and forgot to clean up this pole.

A few years after I got this picture, the elevator AND this pole were removed.

Fall doesn't just mean the autumn colors in Colorado, it can also host a number of birds as they go through their fall migratory journeys. You just never know what you're going to find.

Every few days we take a break from unloading boxes and building things around the house and get outdoors to explore the area. We stopped at a nearby lake to see what might have started migrating through the area. One of the birds we found was this short-billed dowitcher, which was hanging out with a semipalmated sandpiper, who was also making its migration. While most of the birds foraging around the lake didn't cooperate as nicely, this dowitcher was a willing participant in a morning's photo shoot, as Tom took off onto the mountain biking trails.

It was a fabulous morning by the lake ... the sun was shining, there was a nice breeze, cool temperatures, and the scenery was gorgeous.... even got to see some eagles. I was so in the happy zone until ... a snake almost slithered over my hiking shoe and into the bushes. Yikes! I don't care much for snakes and despite his brightly colored skin, I never saw the encounter coming. LOL (laughing now at least)

Heading out for bigger wildlife today ... hopefully of the 4-legged kind. There's always something to explore. Can't wait to see what we find.

Thanks for stopping by! Thanks also to Michael Libbe for confirming for me my tentative ID on this bird. :-)

When at the Ridgefield NWR on Sep. 13, 2010, I drove up to post 4 at the hunter's gate, and this heron was standing on the road there. He then jumped up onto the gate which raised him high enough to improve the background immensely (from what would have been a gravel road background). These birds never cease to amaze me!
