I'm taking part in the PHOTINGO 2017 Street Photography Challenge. This was meant to be my first entry, until I noticed I took it the day before the challenge started. Oh well, back to square one. Used for #Gallery365in2024Dailyprompt 24/05/24 garrulity

In analytical psychology, the shadow (also known as ego-dystonic complex, repressed id, shadow aspect, or shadow archetype) is an unconscious aspect of the personality that does not correspond with the ego ideal, leading the ego to resist and project the shadow. One of the best ways to identify your shadow is to pay attention to your emotional reactions toward other people. Sure, your colleagues might be aggressive, arrogant, inconsiderate, or impatient, but if you don't have those same qualities within you, you won't have a strong reaction to their behavior.

I noticed people, like these gentlemen, who had never met before, engaging in friendly conversations on railway platforms. The atmosphere was open and relaxed, and quite different to cities like London, where people even avoid eye contact.

In the background we have already seen the portrait for former Prime Minister Paul Keating by Bryan Westwood. Next to it is the portrait of a young Sydney MP, John Howard, who was to succeed Keating as PM from 1996 to 2007. The suburban setting is quite deliberate, as Howard always made an appeal to middle classes. The founder of the Liberal Party, Sir Robert Menzies, once called them “the forgotten people”, and at the turn of the century they became “Howard’s battlers”. This work by Josonia Palaitis in 1979 has all the qualities of photo-realism. www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/artboards/archie-100/in-polite-...

Behind the ladies in polite conversation (one perfectly colour-coordinated with the Howard painting) is William Pidgeon’s 1961 portrait of Australian Chief Rabbi Dr Israel Porush (1907–91). The rabbi was born in Jerusalem and sent to Germany for further education in his Orthodox Judaism and also mathematics. When you think about it the transcendental nature of pure mathematics has a surprising ally in a transcendental faith. But by 1934 it became too dangerous to remain. Hitler had assumed dictatorial control of the country, and so he moved to London. In 1940 he was appointed to Sydney’s Great Synagogue.

The flowers were late this year but when they came, boy did they come on strong.

Still pretty darn humid though.

This time of year is so exciting. The air is full of songs again. It's impossible to step outside without immersing yourself in the conversations :)
