The possibilities are truly endless, but Groene Rei has to be one of the most beautiful locations belonging to Bruges. It offers a varied yet typical Bruges scenery with old bridges and historical buildings framed by a touch of nature. No matter where you go in Bruges you will no doubt fall in love with the cities arteries and afterwards fondly remember those walks along

This cinnabar moth, a day flying moth, appeared in our garden this afternoon and decided to take an extended rest on a weed, conveniently for me as I was able to get this good shot of him!

A superb little bird., not camera shy., and so good to have your lens pointing at something quite rare for a change
Perhaps its our central location., but the rare stuff always seem to get reported hundreds of miles away!
However., this little guy was a convenient 90 minutes drive away
For that alone., he deserved another upload!
Thanks for looking, comments and faves. Much appreciated

Jökulsárlón 20210716
Jökulsárlón is Iceland’s most famous glacier lagoon. Conveniently located in the southeast by Route 1, about halfway between the Skaftafell Nature Reserve and Höfn.
As a glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón is a lake that is filled with meltwater from an outlet glacier. In this case, it is Breiðamerkurjökull, a tongue of Europe’s largest ice cap, Vatnajökull.
It stands out, however, due to the fact that it also fills with icebergs breaking from the glacier, some of which tower several stories high.
These icebergs, other than their scale, are notable for their colouration. Although they are, as expected, largely white, most are also dyed electric blue in part, with black streaks of ash from eruptions centuries past.
In spite of being a rather recent formation, Jökulsárlón is the deepest lake in the country, with depths of 248 metres (814 feet). With a surface area of 18 square kilometres, it is also growing to be one of the largest.

An Indian bushlark calling out from a short pole of concrete.
We can see birds everywhere now having got used to these artificial perches - overhead electric wires, barbed wire fences, concrete fenceposts, electric transmission towers etc. In the age where their natural perches (i.e. trees and bushes) are disappearing fast, they probably have no option but to use these alternatives.
This location is still one of my most favourite to photograph on the coastline of Portknockie. The best part is, it's literally just below my house so I can just pop down at any point to get a shot when conditions are right. There was a bit more cloud around on this day, having had many days of clear blue skies, so I took the opportunity to get a shot. Taken on the shores of Portknockie in Morayshire, Scotland.
A Green Heron happily utilizes a random chain to perch and pick off a few tasty treats in St. Martin.
This is our local convenience store and laundromat. It is about eight miles from where I live. What I like about it is that there are two gas pumps. It costs a little bit more than in town, but it saves driving 22 miles if you miscalculate. My old 1989 Mercury is in great shape except that the gas gauge quit working a couple of years ago. Therefore, I use the trip meter to keep track of the miles I have driven. Occasionally (very, very rarely I might add), I forget to zero it out when I fill up. Then I realize it after I have driven 50 miles or so. Very confusing.
The bad thing is that you have to fill up the gas tank every time you put gas in, or you don’t know how much is in the tank.
Sometimes both sides of their pumps have signs on them that they are out of order. I think they just couldn’t afford the gas delivery. They are charged more for a petrol truck to come to this out of the way gas station. Anyway, I am glad we have it here at the end of nowhere!
Not convenient any more. I actually have to use a different language to post as they haven't done this terrible change to every language available. We want the original back for everyone!!!!!! Staff.... Please change the English site back to original!!!! Please!!!

Thank you all for visits, favs and comments, it's greatly appreciated!
Very convenient that the designers of this building included built-in identification of different parts of the structure - takes some of the guesswork out of the research!
I need to go back and shoot this in better lighting as this was pretty backlit. Thanks to digital sensor dynamic range and editing I can pull detail from the shadows and dodge the bright areas, but the result is a little more unnatural than I'd like.

While working our way east toward Calgary to get closer to our departing flight the following morning, we stopped in Canmore for lunch, and decided to roll to Exshaw Curve. While the shot is best in the morning for an eastbound, when we got there, we heard a westbound calling signals. The sun wasn't perfect, we were still on the dark side of the train, but it still works for me.

This is the ideal squirrel resting place. It's a perfectly angled junction between the first branch and main trunk of our oak tree which is sufficiently high off the ground from cats for squirrels to eat their nuts in peace.
