Whoever's idea it was to open the 7 Eleven convenience store franchise in Thailand struck a gold mine. There is one on every corner in every town throughout the country.
If you don't play, you don't win. Or as I put it: If you don't play you will not loose.
In my neck of woods people are bombarded with advertising of easy money. Ontario has provincial gambling agency. Few years ago, you would go to jail for promoting gambling, unless it was for 'good cause'. These days government is in business to extract money from fools. You will not get addicted, as government includes warnings on their promotions. But do not expect that they will pay your rent, if the warning doesn't work.

I think Variety/ Convenience/ corner store make a good photo subject. I have several photos of these stores in my gallery and will be adding more. Kingsway Variety was long time target on my shooting list. The strong contrast is attractive in colour or b&w.
I never go in to buy something in these places and I am surprised how many survive in the city. This one was quite busy; they must be doing something right, as this stretch of street has many stores to choose from. There is one convenience store near where I live and the store survives mainly by providing junk food for the kids of two large schools nearby. Poor parents (not financially), lucky dentists!

Scene from a Tokyo conbini - those small but oh, so well stocked shops that offer everything you need when on the go (the name is a Japanese short form of convenience store) - late at night when the shop shelves are running empty and everyone is on their way home...
(Yes, we have SevenEleven in Sweden, and the more local Pressbyrån - but it really isn't the same thing!)
Nothing really striking about this convenience store, except I liked the colour simplicity. These stores can be really cluttered with signs and advertising pictures, so perhaps that's why it got my attention. Also few blocks down a gallery displayed large photographs of some of Toronto convenience stores. If you are in Toronto 'The Window Gallery YYZ' is showing Moe Laverty large images of stores like this. This one was not featured.

There are many 'Happy' Chinese restaurants, this one seems to have just the name, as it is closed. Located across from social housing project, it has been boarded up for years before the declared pandemic. There is proposed nondescript square box building to be built on this site, but so far it has not been approved. There were several Chinese restaurants on this corner since 1997. Mr. Chan's "Happy" closed at 1859 Davenport in 2010. The building may be there since around 1910-1920.

I was all ready to post a picture of some beautiful Clydesdales trotting through the snow pulling a wagon of Bud? Unfortunately, we don’t have a day for Clydesdales or even horses, for that matter. So you will have to settle for the truck. HTT

Akihabara is that part of Tokyo probably most famous for attracting anyone interest in both electronics and anime and manga - and video games. And the shops there are quick to pick up on that, like this convenience store (in Tokyo something you come across absolutely everywhere - they are locally known as コンビニ / konbini) with a Dragon quest theme. That means you here can buy your noodles, your onigiri, your coffee in a can (Japanese canned coffee is really good!), your band-aids and your plush monster. The last one is not typical of a konbini. I left the store with a package of band-aids though...
Right on the border between Hackney and Tower Hamlets. I think this is just on Hackney side of the line.
