This Sunday temperatures dropped 10 degrees and it was raining all day long. I used the ambiance to finish some books.
While I was reading “Politics” I’ve already decided to read after that “Jules and Jim”, especially because ”Politics” refers to it. I already had “Jules and Jim” twice in my hands; the first time at a friend’s of mine (she said: “yes, interesting, but outdated. A good read in your twenties.” I’ve put it back in her shelf, thinking she intended that it was boring. Honestly; now I would really like to know what she meant!), the second time when I browsed the French section of my library, but it didn’t inspire me.
So after putting down Politics (and the triple harmony-intermezzo) I thought I could give it try.
As the cover reads: “Many have seen the movie, few have read the book” – I’ve never seen the movie.
I was really impressed and captured by the lightness of every sentence. The verbal structure reminded me of Bauhaus Architecture: there are no ornaments, nothing superficial, bare and simple words – but that doesn’t mean that it is crude and simple, far away from it. It rings and sings in poetry, never being cheesy. It’s like one of these conversations in which you know but cannot say and put everything in innocuous words that say one thing but can mean many. To say, this book leaves a lot to imagination.
For example, one day a couple has a big fight. “The following day Kathe didn’t leave her room. The next day the sky was blue again.”
I’d say; skip “Politics” and go directly to “Jules and Jim”.
I made this picture against the setting sun yesterday and when I opened it today I saw this strange wording on it: XIMI – I have no idea where it is coming from, nor what it means, it’s not on the cover. Any suggestions?
