June 1, 2019: The Southern Railway heritage unit (ES44AC GE) leads Norfolk Southern Freight Train NS 361 (Chattanooga, TN-Macon, GA) by C-Line Junction at CP Green near Silver Creek, GA on the Norfolk Southern Atlanta-North District.

Day-to-day traffic on CPKC's Fording River Sub consists solely of coal trains heading to and from one of the 4 mines along the line. However, on this gorgeous summer morning there's a unique visitor to the Elk Valley.

Here we have a welded rail train, shoving north from Sparwood to drop rail at several locations along the subdivision. The train is seen here at Greenhills, a radio-controlled, signalized island controlling the junction to the Greenhills Mine load-out.

On a sunny, spring morning in the Bayou City, BNSF 9038 leads a transfer job from the PTRA through the S-curve at CP Rusk on the Houston West Belt. This control point, along with adjacent S GH&H Jct, still hosts former HB&T searchlights. However, replacement Vaders have been up for a couple years now, so it's just a matter of time before retirement comes for the old signals.

June 14, 2022: Norfolk Southern loaded ethanol train NS 64Q (Chicago, IL-Jacksonville, FL) splits the signals at Control Point Finley in Silver Creek, GA as it motors Southbound with NS 1067 Reading Heritage Unit leading the consist of tank cars. **This was the first time I've ever seen this engine in person making me very happy!

May 9, 2021: A pair of BNSF engines, lead by an AC4400CW GE engine sporting the H2 paint scheme, leads CSX manifest-freight train Q647 (Chicago, IL-Waycross, GA) by the control point signals on the north side of Emerson, GA on the CSX Western & Atlantic Subdivision.

CP 466 near Pinola was always my favorite spot on the Chicago Line in NW Indiana. The west end of a controlled siding that effectively turned this part of the ex NYC Water Level Route into a 3 track railroad, the location was punctuated by an impressive signal bridge spanning all 3 tracks. Here an east-bound Canadian Pacific haulage rights train, 34T, rolls under the bridge with 2 AC4400s leading a pair of leased SD40s. The bridge was removed and replaced with a modern cantilever in 2016.

The air temperature is zero degrees and falling after sunset as the afternoon light quickly fades away on the St. Croix sub. The westbound main has been blocked for over two hours by this empty oil train after the lead unit (CSX 137) lost all of its water and had to be shut down. A relief crew aboard a single replacement locomotive has been sent from LaCrosse yard to rescue the train and complete the trip to Northtown.

Visible in the distance are the block signals for the new high speed crossover installation at C.P. 3396. The tail lights on the road at left belong to a BNSF service truck and a taxi which has just arrived to pick up the crew.

A southbound sand train has a clear signal at North Weyawega as a dying storm approaches...I was out trying to get lightning shots but the line fell apart as it got close. I was left scrambling to find foreground interest as my original locations wouldn't work...then I realized I was close to this control point. The new LED signals that CN has been installing are definitely bright- I knew they were bright from the locomotive but didn't expect them to show up so well in photos.

Strangely this image was a difficult stitch. still some little problem at the top.

It looks like suddenly my no parralaxpoint has shifted. a lot of controlpoints are set by hand on this one.

Not long after the sun crept high enough to clear nearby buildings, one of CP's heritage units brings an empty gas train through Niles Jct on UP's Houston Sub. These SP searchlights were some of the last remaining in Houston, though the prescene of replacement signals and a new control box were an omen of the future. The searchlights would finally come down in June 2025.

Having been released from rebuild at GE/Wabtec's Ft Worth plant the month prior, the paint on UP 5862 looks phenomenal as it brings a Houston-bound manifest into the bottom of former MP Settegast Yard. The train took the NW connector track at Tower 87 in the distance, and is now crossing over at the adjacent CP's of Interstate Jct and S Settegast Jct to actually enter the yard.

June 14, 2022: Norfolk Southern loaded ethanol tank car train Ns 64Q (Chicago, IL-Jacksonville, FL) rolls by the C-Line Junction at control point Green in Silver Creek, GA with NS 1067, Reading heritage unit, leading the way south on a muggy summer day in Dixie. This was my first time ever seeing this engine in person!

This former PRR position light finds itself unemployed as NS ripped out the connecting track this signal once guarded. Unfortunately, traffic on the former PRR mainline across eastern Ohio is down quite a bit since the Conrail split.

Georgia Division trains 125 and 322 meet in downtown Atlanta, both being led by unique locomotives. Knoxville to Macon merchandise freight 125 is led by the Interstate heritage unit, GE ES44AC number 8105, while Macon to Chattanooga freight 322 is led by EMD SD70ACe number 1066, the New York Central heritage unit.

After leaving Pleasant Hill, I ran over to Belton, MO where I met up with one Mr. Nicholas Smith. From the MO Rt. 58 overpass, we shot the Q-KCNL working the south end of intermodal facility, otherwise known as the IFG.

October 17, 2021: A Union Pacific C45AH (ES44AH) GE engine leads a trio of UP engines, as they pull Norfolk Southern manifest-freight train NS 371 (Chattanooga, TN-Atlanta, GA) by the signals at the C-Line Junction of CP Green in Silver Creek, GA on a beautiful cool Fall afternoon in North Georgia.

Having just passed Linwood Yard, Norfolk and Western class J #611 leans into a curve at control point "Duke", nearing Spencer, North Carolina, after a successful mainline test run from the North Carolina Transportation Museum to Greenboro and back.

And she's in the very middle of Times Square. For the entire 12 minutes I looked at her, she never turned her head (or even eyes) up for just one second.

I am pretty sure that's what older generations were saying of mine! Yet I can't help but wonder how such a concentration (hopefully she has it for work or study as well) may be an asset in a place that is potentially a source of trouble, given the many people gravitating there.

With the 29F clear of the crossovers and clear track ahead, NS 29K (Atlanta, Georgia - Dallas, TX) shatters the quite of Austell, Georgia at the stroke of midnight claiming the prize as first train of the day.

The SD70ACu leading, at first mistaken as a DC Gevo when they were doubling the train out, was a nice surprise.

NS 115 Makes its way downhill through Clapper with a pretty clean NS Gevo in the lead and 2 HZRXRail engines trailing behind

Check it on Black! "In a world our minds created In a world that's full of shit!"

After getting permission to pass Ollie, NS 25Q is northbound again.

July 30, 2017: Norfolk Southern Intermodal Train NS 26Q (Rossville, TN-Atlanta, GA) passes through control point (CP) Green at the C-Line Junction near Silver Creek, GA with an SD70M-2 EMD engine leading the way South on a beautiful summer day in Dixie.

August 6, 2019: The "Honoring Our Veterans unit (SD60E EMD), leads Norfolk Southern Freight Train NS 175 (Chattanooga, TN-Macon, GA) as it passes the C-Line Junction at CP Green in Seney, GA.

With a joke from a friend turning into a "WTF?!" moment and a 35 min chase, CN grain train G886 passes through the track work at SE Ferryman siding on the Yazoo Subdivision. The wet weather was made better by the Ferromex ES44AC leading a BNSF GE as the grain train made the last few miles before Jackson and its crew change.

This looks like a rural place but it is in a very busy location in Bossier City Louisiana

With the daily transfer from Norfolk Southern to CSX, NS G74 (Z918) passes by the old Southern Railway building in Atlanta with SD40-2 3291 leading the train.
