Control Point One
Built in the early 1950s, Control Point One (CP-1) is located between Frenchman Flat and Yucca Dry Lake. It was built for use during atmospheric nuclear testing and was still in use for the last U.S. underground test in 1991. It remains operationally ready for use today. The purpose of the CP is to provide a secure facility for the people and equipment required for the final preparation, execution, and follow-up of a nuclear test. The main features of CP-1 are: (1) The Department of Energy (DOE) Command Center where the DOE Test Controller and advisors maintain direct communications with many support and advisory organizations; (2) A complete National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather forecasting station; (3) A Control Room from which the count down and detonation signals are sent to Ground-Zero; and (4) Limited housing and feeding facilities for the required personnel

Con el propósito de controlar la movilización de dos hombres en una motocicleta que permita reducir el índice de robos y de muertes violentas, es la medida que empezará a implementarse en pocos días en la jurisdicción de cantón Quevedo, a través de una ordenanza que sería aprobada, esta tarde, en segunda instancia por el pleno del Concejo Cantonal.
Así lo confirmó el alcalde John Salcedo Cantos, durante una reunión que mantuvo ayer en la Unidad de Vigilancia Comunitaria (UVC) con el coronel César Zapata, comandante de la Sub zona de Los Ríos; el fiscal provincial, Luis Pesantes y el Jefe Político, Gabriel Pastrano. La reunión fue convocada por la Policía Nacional en virtud de las muertes violentas ocurridas en las últimas horas contra un taxista ejecutivo en San Camilo y de otro adulto en la que perdió la vida un menor de 9 años en la parroquia Viva Alfaro.
Esta es una medida que podría aportar mucho a la seguridad ciudadana, ya que, según las estadísticas, el 90 por ciento de los hechos delictivos son cometidos por dos hombres en moto. Por eso, sólo se permitirá que se movilice un solo hombre, o un hombre con una mujer o a su vez una mujer con un hombre, expresó Salcedo. También va a ser aprobada la Ordenanza que controla los espacios públicos en la ciudad.
De su parte, la concejala Kerly García fue enfática en manifestar que no son necesario más reuniones, sino acciones concretas y en ese aspecto resaltó la decisión política que ha tenido el alcalde John Salcedo y los concejales de aprobar, en un mes de gestión, una ordenanza que garantice la seguridad ciudadana.
Al mismo tiempo, lamentó que una ordenanza de control de motos fue aprobada en el año 2015 y no fue aplicada, acotó la edil durante la reunión donde además asistieron los concejales, Ingrid Mora, Lorena Rojas, Karina Miranda, Luis Alvario y Marisol Ayala y el Vicealcalde Jimmy Aguirre. Además estuvieron presentes taxistas de la ciudad.
