Tinerhir, at the mouth of Todra Gorge, Morocco.

This yellow butterfly had such a strong contrast, which was amplified by the sun hitting straight at those beautful wings, i cant get over how pretty those wings are.

I stumbled upon these technical drawings piled haphazardly at work, and loved the way the window light was falling across them.

I am pleased that it is both easily identifiable and also works well on a graphic, almost abstract level.

I considered framing differently to remove the crumpled plan not in a tube but decided I liked the way it broke the rhythm of the circles.

I decided to convert this pair of contrasts to monochrome to accentuate the graphic nature of the subjects. I also increased the contrast with an S curve.

Diagonal:

FujiFilm x100 35mm f.2 1/15 iso1000

I sought out an image that would complement the previous shots graphic nature and quickly found this sheet of rusty metal cut diagonally. I think the striped scaffolding behind adds depth and interest to the photo.

I didn't have a tripod, and although I made a decision that the noise caused by the high iso would not detract from the image, I wish I had improvised a solid support for the camera as 1/15 proved a little too slow for me to get the sharpness I wanted for this image. I applied much more sharpening in post than I would normally use, and although it may not be to everyones taste I think for this image it isn't too distracting.

I had another shot for today but that didn't happen, so here's a little contrast for you.

Chaos Vs Peace,

Texture Vs Smooth,

Colour Vs White.

The list could go on but you get the idea.

Prehistoric fossilised pterosaur skeleton against modern architecture

My usual process, I come up with an idea and test it out on my kids or wife before I go and use it with a real client.

In this case, I wanted a mostly black figure against a nice white background, with just a little bit of wrap around light to give just a little texture to exposed surfaces.

I didn't quite get the wrap around light perfectly balanced, but it pretty much did what I wanted it to do.

Lighting setup was pretty simple, a couple bare strobes fired into the seamless white background, with small gobos on them to keep the direct light from spilling onto the subject.

I love this image. I wanted to try and recreate an image I took of my self a few years ago. Lit with 1 580ex II shot into a soft box.

I know this looks like an HDR photo, but in fact this picture is completely untouched and straight out of my camera. I had the camera on "Special Scene" and then had that set to "Enhance Green." But that's all. This is how it looked in real life. It's sad because a fire raged through the area, but was a ground fire so it didn't actually burn the trees but just heated them enough to kill them, and char the bottoms of the trunks. But it made for an interesting photo.
