Die Kugelbahn ist aus Kupferdraht gelötet und ziemlich filigran. Es war nicht so einfach, den richtigen Winkel für eine Macroaufnahme zu finden, damit man erkennt, was es ist. Gern hätte ich die Bewegung der Kugel noch abgebildet. Ich wusste aber nicht, wie.

This are the steampunk cufflinks that i thought of wearing at my wedding but they where too big to be used. The cufflinks are actually work, they just need the charge, on the right one we can see the metal parts of the golden mechanism, instead we can’t see them on the left cufflinks because they’re in motion

This staple remover caught my eye for this week's theme. Contraption can be a strange or unusual device. As more documents go digital, this device will become strange or unknown to some. Incense smoke added for mysterious effect.

‘Twas a bleak morning and something was very wrong. Part of our “strange contraption” - the carrelet, a major landmark - had vanished into thin air, leaving only a stilted platform looking like an offshore helipad for naval choppers. It was also the first day of April ;-)

All sorts of things immediately sprang to mind including: Candid Camera and David Copperfield who, incidentally, was nowhere to be seen. And that in itself was rather suspicious, don't you think?.

View in lightbox, then zoom in while on full screen, to notice that the Sphinx de Vallières is an illusion created by the meticulous alignment of two separate pieces of rock – the head and the rest of the body - nearly 100 yards apart, see here (new tab). It’s where you stand that counts; tide and weather permitting of course.

You may also have noticed that, unlike the Great Sphinx of Giza with its disproportionately small head, our sphinx has a head big enough for two faces! Can you spot them? They're numbered 1 & 2 for the visually impaired. I must admit that the first one does look a bit stony-faced and the second a little apish. wouldn't you agree? (ツ)

A Cervical Spine Locking Plate, a neurosurgical implant.

I did try to take a macro shot of a very small piece of machinery, normaly very much hidden in a clean room? The subject in the complete frame is about 1,5 inch the chip about 10 mm!

Bad design is using a tacky bit of plastic for a vital knob, this would never happen in a good contraption!

I got a flickr email from New World Notes, an SL blog who did a totally unprompted article on me in early April.

The email points to a new challenge the blog is doing (linked below) about how virtual words make groups of people still possible.

So naturally I wanted to do something with one of my fav themes, Steampunk, and 'asked' friends (and 2 random people) to join, with quite a ahem..rushed..deadline!

This shot was taken with my macro contraption (50mm f/1.4 lens, 47 mm extender tube on one side and a 250D macro lens on the other). That means the lens was almost touching the butterfly. I have no idea how they let me get that close, but these butterflies did not seem to be frightened.
