Of course a red barn will stand out in late autumn when most of the colours are quite muted. This is a pretty modern farming operation with many silos and often the harvesting is contracted to custom operators. Quite often the corn crops are not harvested until the fields are frozen to allow better access to the fields!

Oh, and the actual shutter speed was 1/800, with a +2/3 bias:)

Running uphill in loose stone whilst falling victim to what seems to be a never ending rainfall. Not what I had in mind for my Saturday morning hike. But we found the bridge and our timing couldn't have been better, or worse, let's just say we made it happen!

After missing the first two days of Texans training camp before agreeing to a five-year, $14 million contract Saturday, outside linebacker Brian Cushing is eager to get on the practice field today with his new teammates.

Cushing, the first-round draft choice from Southern California, is getting $10.435 million in guaranteed money to become the starter on the strong side and help improve a defense that ranked 22nd last season, including 23rd against the run.

“I’m just relieved and excited to have this done,” Cushing said. “I’m ready to play football and help the team win.”

Cushing (6-3, 262) was in Los Angeles when agent Tom Condon reached the agreement with general manager Rick Smith and director of football administration Chris Olsen.

Cushing’s contract could be worth a maximum of $18 million over five years.

In the fifth year of his deal, there’s a clause that could earn him an additional $4 million in an escalator bonus.

Odds are that Cushing’s contract will be extended before he enters the fifth season in 2013.

Smith and Olsen will have all eight of their draft choices under contract when the Texans take the field for the third day of two-a-day drills at their Methodist Training Center.

“It’s very important to have him signed,” coach Gary Kubiak said. “Rick and Chris were up at 3 in the morning trying to get it done. They’ve done a good job.

“Brian’s two days behind now, but he didn’t miss anything we did in the offseason program, so that’s a good thing. He wanted to be here while we were working on the contract, but he couldn’t.”

Rookies who have signed with the Texans report a week early for conditioning and meetings before practicing for the first time with the veterans. Cushing wanted to report with the rookies.

He was working out at Reliant Stadium last week when the Texans had to explain league rules that forced him to leave.

Cushing took what turned out to be a quick trip back to Los Angeles. He returned to Houston on Saturday afternoon.

Texans coaches are excited to get him on the practice field.

“We’re going to put the pads on (Sunday morning), and I know he’s chomping at the bit to get out there,” Kubiak said.

After the Texans used the 15th pick in the first round on Cushing, they inserted him into the starting lineup. He impressed his coaches in the organized team activities and minicamp.

“We like his presence on the ball,” Kubiak said, meaning Cushing has a knack for finding the ball and making plays. “He’s playing over the tight end, and we’re going to ask him to do a great deal. We think he can handle it.

“Brian’s very athletic. He’s physical against the run. He can rush the passer. He can drop into coverage. We brought him here for a reason, and we’re going to put him to work real fast.”

Frank Bush, who is in his first season as defensive coordinator, has to make calls that maximize Cushing’s strengths. The faster Cushing learns, the quicker Bush plans to utilize all his talent.

“We’re going to try to take advantage of all his talent,” Bush said. “Because he’s such a talented kid, there are a lot of things we can do with him.”

The coaches say they think Cushing has everything it takes to become a star at his position.

“Brian can turn and run with the tight end,” Bush said. “He’s big and strong enough to strike them at the line of scrimmage and nullify some of their speed down the field, so we’re comfortable with him in coverage.

“His ability also gives us a chance to be aggressive toward the quarterback. He’s a big guy who’s shown he can get there.”

The loading on this train apparently varies quite a lot, it would have to be a light load when I went for it!

Tower Transit begin operating three buses on route 69 as part of a joint TFL and ADL venture for Virtual Electric buses. These Enviro 400 VE MMCs were due to operate from West Ham (WH) but since Tower Transit have won the contract from late 2016, the buses moved over to Tower Transits Lea Interchange garage (LI) for operation alongside Stagecoach at West Ham (WH). However, due to teething problems I'm not very sure that this bus left out of Walthamstow Central Bus Station.

Together with Hélène, Baron Etienne contracted architect Pierre Cuypers in 1892 to rebuild the ruined castle, a project which took 20 years. The castle has 200 rooms and 30 bathrooms. For the interior Cuypers made extensive use of cast iron and richly ornamental wood-carving, and the castle was equipped by Cuypers with the most modern gadgets, such as electric lighting with its own generator, and central heating by way of steam. For the period, the kitchen was very modern with an enormous furnace, 6 metres long. The tiles in the kitchen were decorated with the coats of arms of the families De Haar and Van Zuylen. Cuypers even designed the tableware. The interior of the castle was furnished with many works from the Rothschild collections, including porcelain from Japan and China, Flemish tapestries and old master paintings.

Surrounding the castle is a park, designed by Hendrik Copijn, for which Van Zuylen ordered 7000 fully grown trees. The park contains many waterworks and a formal garden modelled after the gardens of Versailles. To create the park, the village of Haarzuilens was demolished, with the exception of the town church. The inhabitants were moved to a site a kilometre further up the valley, where a new Haarzuilens arose, built in a pseudo-medieval style, including a rural village green. The buildings were for the most part designed by Cuypers and his son Joseph Cuypers.

In 2000, the Van Zuylen van Nyevelt family passed ownership of the castle and the gardens to the Foundation Kasteel de Haar. However, the family retained the right to spend one month per year in the castle. In the same year, the Dutch society Natuurmonumenten bought the surrounding estate of 400 ha. An extensive restoration programme of the castle and the gardens was begun in 2001 and completed in 2011. After the death in 2011 of the last van Zuylen male heir, his daughters sold the complete art collection and interior furnishings of the castle to the Foundation Kasteel de Haar.

Due to the delayed delivery of LT's for the EL1/2/3, this delayed releasing these vehicles for the 101 change. As a result, this has resulted in the released buses at last minute, having to then go straight onto the 101 without the chance to remove the ELT branding. It won't be long until the branding gets removed off of the all the batch for the 101.

OK, it's been done before. I get that. But it's also a compositional idea that appears simple and one I wanted to try for myself. With today a write-off through rain, I decided to give it a whack.

Two hours later I finally got the shot I envisaged, with the assistance of the kitchen bench, a black shirt, a torch, a tissue to muffle the torchlight, a ring, an old book by Balzac (the source of the title), a wireless remote, tripod, a Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III and a Canon EF 85mm f1.2L II lens.

"The morning air breathes a new and laughing energy into veins and marrow. If every day is a repetition of life, every dawn signs, as it were, a new contract with existence. At dawn everything is fresh, light, simple, as it is for children. At dawn spiritual truth, like the atmosphere, is more transparent, and our organs, like the young leaves, drink in the light more eagerly, breathe in more ether, and less of things worldly."
