The space-time continuum combines space and time into a single idea, or in this case... a single picture.

Updating my take on a location which I last visited a year ago, this is my take on the pedestrian arches along South Molton Street in Mayfair. The arches are set up each Christmas by commercial lights and decorations supplier Piggotts, and they're as beautifully designed and lit as ever and as much of a joy to shoot as ever.
I was drawn to a similar composition to last Christmas, although on this occasion from a different vantage point and much lower to the ground, which I felt gave more emphasis to the telephone box and helped to add a sense of scale to the arches. My aim with this take was to capture the incredible combination of deep red from the telephone box and the luscious blue being cast along the buildings, but also to hopefully produce an image with a sharper and cleaner finish, and one that placed a little more emphasis on the detail along the street and the texture along the outside of the telephone box.
The image was fairly straightforward to process. Brighter and darker exposures were blended to control the highlights along the arches and to bring out the subtlety of the street walls and the tiles along the ground. I used Nik Color Efex Pro to apply some gentle tonal contrast to the image and to refocus the light from the centre of the image to the arches in the distance. I then used Levels adjustments to brighten portions of the telephone box, and finally just a few Curves adjustments to dodge and burn the detail along the buildings and the street.
