This peaceful scene was violently disturbed by a photographer applying his extensive expertise in German swearwords – part of this fishing technique appears to be continuous slow movement, spoiling most of my exposures. In the end, we both have been happy – the guy is kind of sharp in this image and he brought home a big wet fish.

These storms were 60 miles to my north and some approached severe intensity.

Socotra cormorant Phalacrocorax nigrogularis is endemic to Arabia, found nowhere else across the globe apart from the Arabian Gulf and Arabian Sea.

Socotra cormorant is among the most skilled fish-catching birds in Bahrain and Arabian Gulf. It dives more than 10 m chasing fish underwater.

The nesting colony of Socotra cormorant Phalacrocorax nigrogularis on Hawar Island, south of Bahrain, is among the largest in the world. As the case with other cormorant species, nesting colonies of Socotra cormorant fluctuate widely in size over time.

Socotra cormorant lays eggs in small depressions in the ground with thousands of dense nests forming sizable breeding colonies. As such, heavy rain and cold winter temperatures often lead to mass mortality of eggs and chicks.

Seagulls are among key predators of Socotra cormorant Phalacrocorax nigrogularis on Hawar Islands. Despite continuous protection by parents, gulls succeed to prey on cormorant’s eggs and young chicks.

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam (Feb. 6, 2017) - U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancers assigned to the 9th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron, deployed from Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, arrive Feb. 6, 2017, at Andersen AFB, Guam. The 9th EBS is taking over U.S. Pacific Command's Continuous Bomber Presence operations from the 34th EBS, assigned to Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D. The B-1B's speed and superior handling characteristics allow it to seamlessly integrate in mixed force packages. These capabilities, when combined with its substantial payload, excellent radar targeting system, long loiter time and survivability, make the B-1B a key element of any joint/composite strike force. While deployed at Guam the B-1Bs will continue conducting flight operations where international law permit. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Richard P. Ebensberger/Released) 170206-F-LP948-059

Cracow is a gold mining township in Queensland, Australia 485 kilometres from the state's capital city Brisbane.

A grazing and gold mining town, with the Cracow homestead just south of the town, Cracow was part of the Dawson River cattle run in the late 1800s, and in 1875 three itinerant fossickers were permitted to work the Cracow area where they found indications of the gold ore, but were lured away by the rush at Ready Creek.

In 1916, Johnny Nipps found a nugget six miles from the homestead. Prospector Charlie Lambert from the Charters Towers district investigated the find, opened the Warrego reef and found some promising ore. He discontinued to volunteer for service in World War I with the 1st Australian Imperial Forces and saw active service in France. Helped by a government prospecting sustenance scheme, Lambert returned to work the Warrego in 1931 with Bill Reynolds. They crushed £4,000 worth of gold from fifteen tons of ore, and called the reef “Surprise”. In seventeen years Cracow produced 275,000 ounces, a good yield for a small working.

The Golden Plateau Mine was for many years the only significant gold producer in Queensland apart from the Mount Morgan operations. Operating continuously from 1931 to closure in 1976.

In 2004, Newcrest Mine rekindled gold prospecting in the area, with the mine now operated by Evolution Mining.

There’s some dispute as to why pastoralist John Ross named the area Cracow back in 1851. Some say it was in reverence to the Polish who had fought valiantly for independence, while others say it was the sound of a cracking whip.

Shooting at 14fps. The new Canon 1DX launched just today. RRP to be announced.

Excuse the video quality. It's taken off the iPhone 3GS, uploaded via the Flickr app.

Canon wouldn't allow us to take home any pictures. But from what I see, the ISO performance surpasses that of the 5D2 and their predecessors a fair bit. That's your two stops of wonder working for you.

About my book.

I published a book in old days.

At that time, I was uploading my interview on the net on the net.

That Japanese and English.

I will make it public for free.

Details were explained to the Amazon site.

How to write a novel.

How to take pictures.

Distance to the work.

They all have a common item.

I made a sentence about what I felt, and left it.

I hope that my text can be read by many people.

Thank you.

Mitsushiro.

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

Málaga's history spans around 2,800 years, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Western Europe. The city was founded around the 8th century BC by seafaring Phoenicians, who called the city Malaka.

From the 6th century BC, the city was under the hegemony of ancient Carthage and from the Second Punic War (218 BC) under Roman rule. The city experienced an economic boom thanks to the production of garum.

The Migration Period meant eventful years for Málaga. After the Vandals and the Alans, Visigoths and Eastern Romans fought for control. In 571, the city was briefly occupied by troops of the Visigothic king Leovigild, but it was not until around 616 that the Eastern Romans finally handed the city over to the Visigoths.

The Moors conquered Málaga in 711 and the city gained importance in the 11th century when the Hammudids established one of their residences here. In 1053, the King of Granada had the last Hammudid caliph poisoned and conquered the city. After the conquest by the Catholic Monarchs in the course of the Reconquista in 1487, "reforms" began to transform the city into a Christian settlement. In Muslim times, the Jewish quarter was located in the eastern part of the city. In the 11th century, the city took in numerous Jews who had fled from the intolerant Berbers in Córdoba. In the middle of the 11th century, around 200 Jews lived in Málaga out of a population of around 20,000. After the city was conquered by Castile in 1487, all of Malaga's Jews were taken prisoner. Around 1490 it was decided that the city should be repopulated by Christians. Jews and Muslims had to leave Málaga within 15 days.

The Cathedral of Málaga was built by the Christian conquerors from 1528 over a mosque.

As a result of the 254-year construction phase up to 1782, the church consists of a mixture of different styles. The Renaissance style is predominant, but it also has Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassical elements. To defray the enormous expenses of the work, the Crown imposed a tax on the ships that called in Málaga.

Although two towers were planned in the original plans, only one was later completed due to a lack of funds, which gave the cathedral its popular name "La Manquita" ("little one-armed lady"). The roof was not completed either, which means that tourists can now take a rooftop tour.

Qinghai Lake, Xining, China.

From ancient times to the present, whenever people mention Qinghai Lake they think of 'green lake', 'blue sea' or 'fairyland', because of the marvelous natural beauty reflected on it. As to the area, it is the largest inland and salt water lake in China. It is no exaggeration to say that Qinghai Lake is a miracle that is endowed by a deity. Outside, he circles the lake with four continuous mountains and extends broad grassland at the foot of them. Inside, like a master baker, he decorated the water with many little islands. All these natural attractions come together perfectly to form a Xanadu on earth to win many tourists' favor. Shaped like an ellipse, Qinghai Lake lies northwest of the imposing Qinghai Altiplano, 150 km. (93.21 miles) away from Xining city. It reaches 28.71 m. (77.79 feet) at the deepest point but averages 19 meters (62.34 feet) overall. With an altitude of 3, 195 m. (10, 482.28 feet) high, the climate surrounding is very cool. Even in the middle of the summer, the average temperature in the daytime is about 15.

The Jewish community in Libya was one of the oldest in the diaspora, with a presence of 2300 continuous years. The majority immigrated to Israel at the time of the establishment of the State, and the remaining were forced to leave in 1967. The Museum is located in Or Yehuda (Israel), originally a camp for immigrants Libya.

The permanent exhibition consists of items of Libyan Jewish craftsmanship, documents, photographs and textiles.

A remembrance hall lists the names of the victims of pogroms in the years 1945 to 1967 and documents the persecution of Libyan Jews under Fascist and Nazi rules. A gallery hosts art work by contemporary artists from the community.

For 16 continuous months, she was in action in the forward areas of the Pacific combat zone, sometimes within 40 mi (60 km) of the Japanese home islands. Under air attack 59 times, she was never hit. Her aircraft destroyed 1,410 Japanese aircraft; only Essex exceeded this record. 10 of her pilots attained "Ace in a Day" status; 30 of her 42 VF-2 F6F Hellcat pilots were aces. In one day, her aircraft shot down 72 Japanese aircraft, and in one month, they shot down 255 aircraft. Hornet supported nearly every Pacific amphibious landing after March 1944. Her air groups destroyed or damaged 1,269,710 tons (1,151,860 tonnes) of Japanese shipping, and scored the critical first hits in sinking Yamato.

Hornet earned nine battle stars for her service in World War II. Seven battle stars were earned as the sole receiver in 1944. Two were earned together as Hornet and her air groups when the Navy changed their nomenclature in 1945. She was one of nine carriers to be awarded the Presidential Unit Citation.

.

Every Sunday the 20th February Movement (born just one year ago) walks on the street of Marrakech asking for democracy and social justice

Taffs Well to Pontypridd Walk. Two cyclists are heading up the 'Big Hill' and are about to pass under the only overbridge on this section of path. The blue signpost shows alternative routes ahead, straight on for Caerphilly and Newport, left for Pontypridd, Merthyr Tydfil and Brecon, also pointing behind the camera for Tongwynlais and Cardiff.

This Rhymney Railway line was opened throughout from Rhymney for freight on 25 February 1858 and to passengers on 31 March. It joined the Taff Vale Railway at Walnut Tree Junction, Taffs Well, with the RR having running powers onwards to Cardiff. As cordial relations between the RR and TVR began to sour, the former decided to build a direct line into Cardiff, the route via Caerphilly Tunnel being opened on 1 April 1871.

From then on the old route became freight only, mostly with coal trains from the Rhymney Valley. The first two miles or so to Penrhos Junction became known as the 'Big Hill' due to the continuous 1 in 47 grade, although fortunately most of the trains facing the climb were of empty coal wagons being returned to collieries in the Rhymney Valley.

By the early 1980s traffic was well on the decline and it was considered that all could be handled via Heath Junction, and little traffic had passed via Taffs Well for some time before the section to Penrhos Junction and on to Aber Junction was taken out of use on 21 June 1982. That was not quite the end as a railtour, the Monmouthshire Railway Society's Rod Mill Rattler, made a trip up the 'Big Hill' on 23 October that year. After that, the track was left in place for some time in case there were problems via Heath, so lifting did not start until 1984.

nrhp # 86003178- The Ayers Bank Building is a historic bank building located at 200 West State Street in Jacksonville, Illinois. This site is believed to have been continuously associated with banking since 1832, longer than any other site in Illinois.

Banking operations at the building site began with David Ayers who operated a merchant bank out of his drug store in the 1830s, and the Ayers family continued banking at this site throughout the 19th century. In 1910, when Millard Fillmore Dunlap and Andrew Russel bought a controlling interest in the business, Ayers Bank was one of the state's leading financial institutions.[3] Dunlap and Russel hired architect Jarvis Hunt of Chicago to build the Ayers Bank Building on the same site where David Ayers had begun his banking business.

The bank continued to prosper until the 1930s, when Dunlap and Russel were convicted of illegal banking practices and went to prison. Depositors received 33 cents on the dollar and the federal government closed the bank in November 1932.

The Farmers State Bank & Trust Company bought the building for $53,000 at a foreclosure sale in 1939. The upper floors were rented to a series of dentists, physicians, and other professionals until 1985, when Farmers renovated the entire building for its exclusive use. As of 2017, the bank still has its headquarters at this site.

The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 20, 1986.

Building architecture

The Ayers Bank Building is the tallest building in downtown Jacksonville; it is 110 ft (34 m) tall and has eight stories. The building was the first steel-frame and reinforced concrete structure in Jacksonville. The building is in the Renaissance Revival style with a brick and cut stone exterior and a terra cotta egg-and-dart cornice.

'Afloat' is a huge 250cm diameter circular donut shaped globe cast in bronze. Situated at the seaward end of the Groyne on the seafront, near to Brighton's Palace Pier, its centre at eye level allows a view of our world through the sculpture.

The donut or torus (a shape that has a continuous surface with a hole in it) has been posed as a possible model by scientists of how our universe may look. The sculpture was generated by taking a world globe and pressing the south and north poles together to form a torus. Now placed on its side the lines of longitude radiate from the central hole, linking the sea and sky. Across its surface are the shrunken shapes of the major continents, adrift like dark shadows.

This much photographed sculpture has also become a meeting point and has even been the site of marriage proposals.
