Mt. Wilbur is just one of the iconic peaks in Glacier Park's Many Glacier area. It rises 4500 feet above Swiftcurrent Lake. The Ptarmigan Wall forms a rugged steep narrow ridge to it's NE. Also known as the Pinnacle Wall by some.

Iceberg Lake is in the corner junction where the Wall meets Wilbur. A highly recommended hike. Some pics of this pretty lake in comments.

Thanks for a taking a look!

These boaters sure know where to spend a wonderful summer evening.

Have a wonderful Friday and weekend!

The Continental Divide is the main hydrological divide of the Americas. It runs the full length of North and South America and separates the Atlantic and Pacific watersheds, sending all water to the west toward the Pacific Ocean and all water east toward the Atlantic Ocean.

The San Juan Mountain Range in southwestern Colorado is the largest mountain range in the state and contains some of the highest summits in the continental US. The Continental Divide Trail crosses Wolf Creek Pass in the San Juan Range. These mountains have the highest snowfall levels in the state due to moisture blown in from the Pacific Ocean. The annual snowfall average is about 400 inches (10 m) but in some years it exceeds 600 inches (15 m).

This is a view of Continental Divide mountain peaks, taken from Loveland Pass, Colorado.

Loveland Pass is just short of 12000 feet high, above the treeline. Many Colorado mountains peak out over 14000 feet..

The San Juan Mountains in southwest Colorado are the largest mountain range in the state and contain some of the highest and most jagged summits in the continental United States. They also receive the highest snowfall levels in the state due to moisture blown in from the Pacific Ocean. The annual snowfall at Wolf Creek Pass (elevation 10,850 feet) averages about 400 inches (10 m) and sometimes exceeds 600 inches (15 m).

At an elevation of 11,716 feet (3878 m) Forest Canyon Overlook provides spectacular views of Forest Canyon, a 2,000 ft deep valley which was carved by glaciers thousands of years ago, and the mountains that make up the Continental Divide. The Continental Divide runs the full length of North and South America and separates the Atlantic and Pacific watersheds, sending all water to the west toward the Pacific Ocean and all water east toward the Atlantic Ocean.

The prominent rounded peak seen in front is 12,723 ft Terra Tomah Mountain (3,878 m). The jagged peak to the left is 12,927 ft Mount Julian (3940 m) .

Grand Lake is Colorado's largest natural body of water, located at the headwaters of the Colorado River near the Continental Divide. The town of Grand Lake is the western gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park.

Looking west at Mt. Athabasca's north glacier with the cloudy skies above glowing from the first rays of a new day.

Mount Athabasca, rises more than 5,000 feet above the Icefields Parkway, to its summit at 11,453 ft (3,491 m). This peak is in the midst of the Columbia Icefield, the largest expanse of ice in the Canadian Rockies. Mt. Athabasca straddles a triple continental divide, with water from its slopes flowing west towards the Pacific Ocean, east towards Hudson's Bay, and north towards the Arctic Ocean.

Have a wonderful week!

This is Craig Pass in Yellowstone National Park. The Craig Pass Bridge fords Isa Lake. It is also the Continental Divide. It's a unique lake and the only natural lake in the world to flow into two oceans. It flows into the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. One other lake does this but it is a manmade lake. Isa Lake when the snow melts drains in two directions for the spring runoff. #CraigPass #YellowstoneNationalPark #NPS #IsaLake #See #lac #Wyoming #snow #Schnee #neige #雪 #pont #Brücke #橋 #ContinentalDivide #mountain #Berg #montagne #山 #UNESCO

Whirling storm clouds gather over Grinnell Point above Swiftcurrent Lake. A portion of Swiftcurrent Falls in view as well.

As this is the Continental Divide the winds here can be very wicked. Particularly in the fall when I've been here. I've seen it knock people over and have chased my hats hither and yon many times.

I'm not sure which part of Glacier National Park gets the most tourists, but I would guess it's here. For hikers it's hard to top Many Glacier for options and beauty in any direction.

Plus, there is a rather grand historic hotel well-located to the left in the composition. I camped when here but still enjoyed visiting the hotel.

Many Glacier is being loved to death with reservations required to come here for more than a day. Advance planning recommended.

Thanks for taking a look! Always appreciated.

Trees do not grow above the "tree line", which is about 11,000 feet. "The Great Continental Divide", separates the watersheds of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and runs along the Rocky Mountain ridges. Rivers to the West of the Divide drain to the Pacific, and rivers East of the Divide drain to the Atlantic.

As of 2017, "The warming climate has dramatically reduced the size of 39 glaciers in Montana since 1966, some by as much as 85 percent. On average, the glaciers have reduced by 39 percent and only 26 glaciers are now larger than 25 acres, which is used as a guideline for deciding if bodies of ice are large enough to be considered glaciers.

Early last century there were an estimated 150 glaciers larger than 25 acres in Glacier National Park." USGS.org

Soon, if not presently, both of these glaciers, and many others, will no longer be large enough to be classified as glaciers.

Not looking to be a downer but do want to share that such precious and fragile beauties like this may soon be irreparably altered and damaged. Tragic....

Enjoy the first weekend of Spring!

"Mount Gould (9,557 ft (2,913 m)) is a peak on the Continental Divide in Glacier National Park, Montana. It is the highest point of the Garden Wall, It is the highest point along the Garden Wall, which rises above the Going-to-the-Sun Road. Mt. Gould is most notable for its huge, steep east face, which drops 4,000 ft (1,220 m) in only one-half mile (0.8 km)." Wiki

Enjoy a terrific Thursday!

A street scene in downtown Silver City, New Mexico. Silver City is located near the Continental Divide. Silver City is a desert town situated on the southwest end of New Mexico approximately 154 miles northwest of El Paso, Texas. Silver City was founded as a mining town in 1870. Copper, gold and silver were recovered from ore deposits. The Glia National Forest and Gila cliff dwelling are located nearby. The town was once served as an Apache campsite.

Multiple cloud layers float over the Arapaho Peak massif looming 3500'/1000m above Coyote Park. Warm sunset colors illuminate the lower clouds streaming over the summit ridge as a cool front pushes in from the northeast, while the higher cloud layers flow in the typical west to east direction. I've taken dozens of photos of this mountain from the east (www.flickr.com/photos/wdbowman/14856075693) and was glad to get a chance to see it from the other side. I guess I've seen both sides now, though I can't say I really know Arapaho Peak at all.

Emerald Lake is a magnificent glacial lake at the base of Flattop Mountain and Hallett Peak. Still chilly in June, the hike was obscured in some places by snow and ice.

A moderate 3.8 mile round trip hike, the elevation at the Bear Lake trailhead is 9,500' and this point is approximately 10,100'. For those not acclimated to the elevation, it will take about 4-5 hours to hike the trail, take pictures, and enjoy the scenery. Take plenty of water, some snacks, and wear layers.

This image is a composite of nine photographs, capturing the natural green color of the water, as well as the late afternoon sun behind the clouds. If you get a chance to visit Rocky Mountain National Park, I highly recommend this hike!
