War... From here it looks just like a bunch of toys with light effects. The helicopter blades are loud but I can still hear the gunfire. We have already dropped a bomb on our enemies and now we are circling around again for another shot. It looks like hell down there. I can not only hear the gunfire but the screams of the men fighting. Almost in position... And, Dropping the bomb now! It’s on its way to the next target. Oh S***! Anti-Air Tank! AAAHHH!

La ricerca e l'Università italiane sono da sempre notevolmente sottofinanziate: l'Italia con lo 0.9% è ultima tra i paesi OCSE come percentuale di PIL speso per la formazione terziaria. Eppure, la legge 133 del 6 agosto 2008, invece di aumentare il sostegno ad una moderna Università pubblica, prevede che:
- nei prossimi anni venga assunto un solo dipendente ogni 5 che vanno in pensione,
- il finanziamento pubblico venga ridotto di circa un miliardo e mezzo di euro in cinque anni,
- le Università possano deliberare la loro trasformazione in fondazioni private, alle quali vengono ceduti gratuitamente tutti i beni (mobili ed immobili) degli atenei.
È evidente che questi provvedimenti non risolveranno nessuno dei problemi delle Università , mai seriamente affrontati dalla classe politica. In compenso, assesteranno un colpo mortale a coloro che riescono (nonostante tutto) a fare ricerca di alto livello scientifico e a fornire agli studenti una preparazione all'altezza dei migliori atenei internazionali. Infatti:
- solo pochissimi giovani potranno entrare nel mondo della docenza e della ricerca (universitaria e non: per gli Enti Pubblici di Ricerca è prevista una riduzione del personale del 10%), con ulteriore aggravamento della precarietà ;
- professori, ricercatori, tecnici e amministrativi diminuiranno di numero e la loro età media aumenterà . Sarà quindi impossibile mantenere gli attuali livelli di ricerca e dei servizi e si dovrà ridurre l'offerta formativa (inclusi corsi di laurea, laboratori e dottorato) in quantità e qualità , con conseguenze a medio termine disastrose per l'innovazione e la crescita del Paese;
- con l'abbassamento della qualità didattica e l'impossibilità di assegnare tesi di ricerca, la preparazione degli studenti scenderà al di sotto degli standard degli altri Paesi e li renderà meno competitivi sul mercato del lavoro;
- la privatizzazione (tramite un provvedimento senza precedenti nel mondo) comporterà forti condizionamenti sia della didattica che della ricerca e naturalmente determinerà un forte aumento delle tasse universitarie.
Per questi motivi, studenti, dottorandi, precari, tecnici/amministrativi, professori e ricercatori dell'Università di Torino sono in agitazione contro i provvedimenti governativi contenuti nella legge 133, e hanno deciso di intraprendere una serie di iniziative tese a informare e sensibilizzare sulla questione tutti coloro che hanno a cuore il futuro del nostro Paese.
