Model Melanie Bond is holding a Contax AX, which first saw the light of day in 1996. The camera was unique among single lens reflex cameras in that to achieve autofocus, the entire film plane, shutter and prism assembly was moved backwards or forwards up to a centimetre within the camera itself. This explains the thickness of the body, and also why it was the only camera ever to provide autofocus with manual lenses.
