Kumiko suddenly thought something smelled off. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but she could smell something.

"Hmm, what?" She said, looking slightly dazed for a moment. If Miko's eyes could be seen, they'd have gone distant. Into what shecalled the 'grayed out' zone. "D-d-d-d....deborah l-l-likes them." She said stumbling over her words well. For a moment she's confused and makes a series of grunts, which only further her resemblance to walkers.

After a few long seconds though she makes an audible word. "Whassat?"

Artika looks away, over towards the window and nods "You know, like something so the police don't come try to shoot people, I dunno." Looking back and feeling a wave of sympathy as Miko seems to struggle with her words, which only increases her flush and the release of chemicals in the air.

She smells it too, vaguely, some sort of musk which makes her relax, leaning in close as she brushes her fingers over the woman's face.

"It's ok, just stop for a little and then try again... it's what I do, when everything gets weird." She smiles, still not aware of what her inner feelings are causing, even though she does know that she's much better at persuading people to do things than she used to be.

Kumiko immediately hushed, the moment Artika's fingers brushed over her face she stopped trying to talk. Her confusion suddenly became serene, and Miko stared stupidly for a minute before she started talking again. "Gotta walk to the beach and get water." She said fairly clearly before Deborah walked in, and was not followed by a line of dead things.

"Huh-huh-huuuuullo Deborah." Miko said, wondering if she could talk the stinky woman into a bath today.

Taken back in summer, it was just a refreshing shower but I thought I'd save the photo for a more appropriate time of year. Sure enough, that time has arrived, it's been raining every single day!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends and everyone who celebrates it!

The nerve toxin is almost ready. A few more tests and it will be weaponized.

Adrian gave a long nod at Artika. He took her words as the assumption she was a spook as well. At Gelary's optimistm he was about to say "I don't think that's what she means." but refrained from saying so. He'd find out when he saw the woman face to face anyways.

"That's fine." he said, pushing down the button for his comms and radioing to the guard to lower the gate. "No need." he said to Gelary as the gate underneath them began to lower. "We'll see. Not sure yet." having to debate it in his head before calling out to Artika, "I'll see you on the other side." and would gesture to his companion to head off the platform, making his way down and off the platform to the front of the gates.

Waiting not for a gust of wind, but for news about the return to school

That the start of the next school year is marked by uncertainty is already a topic.

The questions are accumulating and it seems that the answers will not arrive until September!!!!

One that is going through the heads of many families and parents' associations is what would happen in the hypothetical case that the parents of students consider that a center does not guarantee the necessary security measures and, therefore, decide not send them to the school. Not only for fear of contagion from the child, but also for potential infections in homes with members at risk

C is for Contagious!

She blushes a bit at not realizing the gates opened, she follow behind the Major and looks a bit embarassed, then perks up again as woman makes her way to them.

She could definatly see the difference and gives an understanding nod,"Oh, well at least You seem to have taken well to it." she tries to joke a bit hoping to show that despite The Woman's being infected, she was not going to be treated poorly.

"So what are You looking for Garden? A friend of mine said she'd found some seed packets at a Nearby Home Depot, maybe You two should plan together."

Hades nods, sneezing for a moment as they begin moving toward the exit.

He says, "Yeah, from Southern Mississippi. Still got some family down there I believe, but I feel like if I go to find out I might end up going back to a boring life. At least while doing this and traveling I can still discover new places and potentially help others."

A little voice in the back of his mind kept trying to tell him something was wrong here, but he ignored it for now at least. He did not figure her to be one of those rare people he had heard about who were considered infected but still living, not really believing much in that, though if he did encounter one of them, he had a simple policy that he extended to everyone.

If they tried to kill him, he would do the same to them. If not, he had no quarrel with them.

Debora canted her head over to one side, curiosity showing under the layers of dirt on her face.

"You know my name?" She inquire of Kumiko before her attention turned to Artika. "Was I supposed to go somewhere? Actually, I felt like I was meant to come here, but I don't know why. I don't really know where I am." She said before wandering deeper into the room.

Given the fact her senses were degraded ands she was covered in dry puke and blood, any smells in the air didn't do her much good, though it could explain how she happily wandered around with the infected or stood near corpses quite contently.

Aurora borealis ...

Unfortunately my friend is down with the latest version of this contagion so we won’t be able to reunite on my short visit to the PNW. This was taken a few years ago near Port Townsend, WA. A shoot from the hip shot that makes me smile every time I see it.

I walked a bit off my normal route today and found so much upon which to cogitate. First, there was the plethora of Trump banners, signs, etc. Scattered in were a very few Biden signs. Around here Trump flags and banners are legion. But I've never seen a Biden flag. I will speculate that that is because Trumpism is a cult, demanding the same allegiance as the patriotism. Thus, many many Trump flags flying on the same pole with the U.S. flag.

And then there is this. The "Open Our Church" sign is in protest to the Covid-19 restrictions. The churches are outraged that they have had restrictions placed upon them. Frankly, I'd be happy to let them have their church services it the disease only killed off the ones stupid enough to attend services. Unfortunately they take it out and give it to the rest of us. The other sign is for a conservative seeking a seat in Congress.

Alas, we are in the nastiest and most critical election period in recent history, and being consumed by a contagion that could be stopped if people would make some sacrifices. But sacrifice has gone out of style in America. It took reason with it.

I am Italian and we are having a bad time but as in other parts of the world. I want to tell the whole world not to underestimate the problem of the covid-19 virus epidemic because he is really dangerous since man has neither antibodies nor drugs nor vaccines that are still being tested and it will take months to be approved . We must strictly follow the rules of igene and even more stay inside our homes to avoid contagion only so that we can defeat the virus on a date to be allocated.

I set about to take a photograph of my clock's hands forming triangles, but the feeling of dread of the coming virus overtook me. I decided to add distortion to my image because my normal sense of time is skewed. I feel as if time is crawling at an agonizing slow pace. The resulting image didn't have the impact I envisioned so I added a texture layer to imbue the photograph with the effect of contagion. Be safe, everyone.

THE CERUSIC.

The plague doctor's mask featured eye openings - protected by lenses, two nose holes and a pointed beak. But what was this beak for? Basically it was an "insulating" form, inside which a handkerchief impregnated with vinegar and herbs was placed, because it was believed that the contagion from the plague occurred through the sense of smell. The plague victims, in fact, gave off a bad smell, but above all it was believed that infectious diseases spread through their own miasmas.

Leprosy is an infectious disease whose pathogen affects the skin and the nervous System.

Poverty, combined with poor hygienic conditions, favours contagion.

When the leprosy breaks out, it leads to the formation of bumps, knots and ulcers on the skin and in the long run to nerve damage.

The consequences are insensibility especially in the hands and feet or damage to the cornea of the eye…

A leprosy patient who has no feeling in his hands or feet is easily injured.

This last Autumn I had the chance to walk with my camera for about 2 hours in the picturesque Thera, the capital city of Santorini, one of the most beautiful and famous Greek Cyclades islands.

The day was cloudy and there was a certain serenity around, although there were a lot of tourists as always. What really struck me, was that I discovered other colors around in the traditional architecture, apart from blue and white!!

You can read right here why Santorini and the most of the Aegean Sea Greek islands are mostly dressed in blue and white :

Santorini and the rest of the islands that form the group of Cyclades in the Aegean Sea are known for their beauty and astonishing architecture. The Cycladic architecture is characterized by simplicity and grace, free from palaver and complex additions. It comes in proportion with the surroundings and the aura of the Greek islands. The architecture of Santorini likewise is accordant to the environment and the conditions of the island and tailored to the needs of its residents.

The first thing that catches your attention when you set eyes on a Cycladic island is the whitewashed houses, usually accompanied by blue doors and windows. The houses are evidently in absolute concordance with the light blue sky and the vast Aegean Sea. This harmony has been established many years ago for various purposes. Nowadays, these colors constitute the hallmark of Cyclades and represent Greece, as they also match its flag.

As for utility reasons, the white color of the houses is of paramount importance. The ideal climate of Santorini offers hot summers and the bright sun is present several months of the year. The inhabitants, in order to confine the heat in the interior to a significant extent, had to construct their houses accordingly. The white color reflects the biggest part of the dazzling light, preventing the houses from getting warm and that was a basic goal of the traditional architecture. Making the houses heat resistant, the summers are much more tolerable and pleasant.

According to historical sources, there is one more explanation to what led to the prevalence of the whitewashed houses. At the beginning of the 20th century, during the war, serious deceases, like cholera, plagued the Greek islands. Whitewash is a cheap, disinfectant material that was used regularly to limit the contagion. Back to that era, it was probably the most effective or even the only medium available for disinfection.

Regardless of the various reasons, white remained the dominant color and trademark of Santorini and Cyclades and creates an awe-inspiring spectacle. The island radiates a beaming light and so a sense of optimism, brightness and tranquility overwhelms visitors. The white color, especially in Santorini, complements the wild beauty, brings balance and is attuned to the details of other colors that simply highlight.”

This picture was taken during my last trip along the banks of Adda river, where it enters in the lake of Como, before coronavirus' spread in Italy. After that, increasingly strict isolation: people has to stay home in order to prevent contagion, shops and restaurants are closed, no travels to/from Italy, no flights, no meetings, no relationships apart from close relatives

We hope for the best but it is hard: greetings from Italy

“A journey, after all, neither begins in the instant we set out, nor ends when we have reached our door step once again. It starts much earlier and is really never over, because the film of memory continues running on inside of us long after we have come to a physical standstill. Indeed, there exists something like a contagion of travel, and the disease is essentially incurable.”

~Ryszard Kapuściński

Arnarstapi sea arch, Iceland. Many thanks to this stranger that I snuck up behind. They stopped in such a picturesque spot. :)

I have a new trip to plan! My good friend that moved to Florida decided he had enough and is moving back! So Nick and I bought one- way tickets to Denver at the end of July where we will meet up and explore Rocky Mountain NP, Grand Tetons NP, Yellowstone NP, Glacier NP, and the Palouse as he makes his way back to the Northwest.

Any suggestions of things to see along the way are always welcome!

Portelet Tower, Jersey, is a Martello tower that the British built in 1808 on the tidal island L'Île au Guerdain in Portelet Bay in the parish of Saint Brélade, Jersey. The site is often referred to as Janvrin's tower or Janvrin's Tomb. The site is accessible at low tide but the tower itself is closed

Philippe Janvrin, a local seafarer, died of the plague in 1721, while on the way back to Jersey. Fear of contagion led the authorities to insist that he be buried on the tidal island, which became known as Janvrin's Tomb, though his body was later re-interred at St Brelade's
