The Churches of Peace in Jawor and Świdnica in Silesia were named after the Peace of Westphalia of 1648.
It permitted the Lutherans of Silesia to build three churches from wood, loam and straw outside the city walls,
without steeples and church bells. The construction time was limited to one year. The third Peace church,
erected in Głogów (then German Glogau), burned down in 1758.
History
Despite the physical and political constraints, three of the churches became the biggest timber-framed religious buildings in Europe due to pioneering constructional and architectural solutions.
The church in Jawor, dedicated to the Holy Ghost is 43.5-metre (143 ft) long, 14-metre (46 ft) wide and 15.7-metre (52 ft) high and has capacity of 5,500. It was constructed by architect Albrecht von Saebisch (1610–1688) from Wroclaw (then German Breslau) and was finished a year later in 1655. The 200 paintings inside by were done by Georg Flegel in 1671–1681. The altar, by Martin Schneider, dates to 1672, the original organ of J. Hoferichter from Legnica (then German Liegnitz) of 1664 was replaced in 1855–1856 by Adolf Alexander Lummert.
By that time, the town had been part of the majority Protestant Kingdom of Prussia for about a century. Another 100 years later, in 1945, the town became part of Poland, as a result of the Potsdam Agreement. Although most of the Protestant churches in the German provinces taken over by Poland in 1945 became Catholic, the two Peace Churches still serve their Lutheran parishes.
The similar church, erected in Głogów (then German Glogau) burned down in 1758, but the one in Świdnica, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, survived like the one in Jawor. Both were restored by a Polish–German cooperation, and recognized by UNESCO in 2001.
** For the past two months I have posted an assorted series of photographs of our three week trip to South West England. I think I have posted a shot of most of the main places we visited . I still have a lot more shots from that trip but they will have to join the very long queue .
This final shot is a return to Wells Cathedral which was also the first image of this series . The shot I posted on October 1 was of the cathedral back lit by the sunrise. Its shown at the top of the comments. This shows the west front of the Cathedral at its best, in the warm low light about an hour before sunset . I spent at least two evenings watching the cathedral slowly change colour as the sun went down . This was for undoubtably the highlight of that holiday . All I can say if you live in the UK and have not visited Wells then you try and do so as soon as possible , its a most remarkable little city .
Wells Cathedral was built in 1176–1450 to replace an earlier church on the site since 705 AD, it is moderately sized for an English cathedral. Its broad west front and large central tower are dominant features. It has been called "unquestionably one of the most beautiful"[ and "most poetic" of English cathedrals. Its Gothic architecture is mostly in Early English style of the late 12th – early 13th centuries, lacking the Romanesque work that survives in many other cathedrals. Building began about 1175. Historian John Harvey sees it as Europe's first truly Gothic structure, breaking the last constraints of Romanesque. Its Early English West front with 300 sculpted figures, is seen as a "supreme triumph of the combined plastic arts in England".

This is one of my pictures in my new lone exhibition "Imagination's Landscapes" at my new small
Ebor Gallery
Second Life has always been a place which has boosted my imagination and that has flowed into my creativity.
This pixelated place gives me a space and time to step outside my RL self and daily constraints. Here I am free to wander gently through the imagination of others, either those who create objects, or the flowing consciousness of those who use each item as a building block to breathe life into other worlds.
I found myself at a point where I needed to just relax and immerse myself in calm and beauty, so for a little while have been using my SL pictures as almost 'holiday snaps', trying not only to capture either sweeping landscapes and detail, but also a feeling of atmosphere.
Step into the gallery and hopefully enjoy them too!

Amsterdam - De Pijp

De Pijp metro station (Dutch: Station De Pijp) is a station on the Route 52 (North–South Line) of the Amsterdam Metro in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was opened on 22 July 2018. Prior to March 2012, this station was known as the Ceintuurbaan. De Pijp is an underground station situated in the Oude Pijp neighbourhood of the borough of Amsterdam-Zuid (Amsterdam South).
The station, designed by Benthem Crouwel Architects, is situated beneath the Ferdinand Bolstraat in the De Pijp neighbourhood. Because of the narrow constraints of the site location, between the foundations of adjoining buildings, the station has two levels, with a platform on each level. Each platform is 125 metres long and 5.3 metres wide (3 meters at its narrowest points). There are ten escalators (five per platform) as well as lifts to the mezzanine level. The lower level platform with southbound services to Zuid is 26.5 meters below street level, while the upper level platform with northbound services to Noord is 16.5 meters below street level. This makes De Pijp station the deepest station on the Noord/Zuidlijn and the deepest metro station in the Netherlands.
In May 2013, a municipal advisory committee selected artwork by Argentinian artist Amalia Pica for this station. It is a multicolored painting that will run the entire span of the wall of the mezzanine level.
The station has two entrances, one at Albert Cuypstraat and Ferdinand Bolstraat and one at Ceintuurbaan and Ferdinand Bolstraat. The existing corner buildings at each station entrance location had been demolished. The first designs for the new residential buildings were presented in April 2014.
Pahto (Mount Adams), seen from Mount Rainier National Park, Washington
Last weekend I decided to meet up with a friend for a sunset hike at Mount Rainier National Park. We made detailed plans ahead of time for both the hike and sunset watching, and then ended up both arriving later than planned, doing a different hike, and hiking more slowly than anticipated due to snow (yes, more snow!) on the trail and a stop to search for my friend's dropped phone. But sunset wasn't until 8:51pm so we figured we still had plenty of time.
We were hiking with the sun behind us, and time was flying by as it has a way of doing when we hike together, so when we emerged from a forested section of the trail into a meadow, we suddenly noticed that the sun was starting to drop into the trees, and realized we had to turn around and hustle back down the trail to where we had planned to watch the sunset over Tahoma (Mount Rainier).
As we hiked at a quick pace back, through every break in the trees, my eyes were drawn to this view of Pahto and the south Cascades. In the evening light, with that fog rising from the forest below, I finally decided it was necessary to stop for photos, despite our time constraints.
Note: Pahto is the second highest peak in Washington, standing 12,281 feet/3743 meters tall and is considered one of the 5 active volcanoes in the state, although the last eruption was 1000 years ago. It is one of the five sacred mountains to the native Yakama peoples and part of the mountain is territory of the Yakama Nation.
The bots
The news about AI is worrisome, the biggest alarms being sounded from within the very community that is developing it.
It's evolving at a phenomenal pace and performing in ways that surprise even them.
We may not fully comprehend what we are creating, possibly beyond any human constraints.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mAPy3VIRx8&t=41s
Beyond the well-kept vineyard, the scenery opens, on the left, on the ruins of the former Bell-Rock factory with the former gypsum quarry of the "Dosso di Rocca", and on the right on the now well-known "ghost village" of Buriano, where you can see what remains of the historic villa with the 75 rooms of the Encounters-Rochefort.
An industrial site abandoned for decades and a village long uninhabited, looted and reduced to ruins.
Private property should have (indeed, has) constraints, but it seems that in Italy environmental, landscape and cultural protection is only an optional.
A credit not collectable by the reference territory.
And therefore from the community which, however, rarely, in its individuals, succeeds or finds it convenient to join forces for the defense of all that is the common good.
Unfortunately we always think of the singular ...
Have you spent some time in the forest?
If not, perhaps you are missing out something really fascinating on the planet Earth.
Most of us live in cities, mega cities, and have the constraints of time.
Once in a while, we should break the monotony of our regular life,
and spend some time with the beautiful Nature.
Not only does it relaxes you,...
but it’s good for your mental and physical health.

I was in Pittsburgh last weekend and really enjoyed photographing the city! I'm a big Steelers fan but hadn't been to the 'Burgh for about six years, so this was a special treat for me since I wasn't into photography during my last trip.
This was taken Sunday morning at the fountain at Point State Park. The fountain hadn't been turned on yet so I was able to get some nice reflections in the pool. The sunrise cooperated with some lovely pre-dawn colors, too!
Pittsburgh is a beautiful city and a photographer's dream. I hope to post more photos from my trip soon.
This is a five exposure HDR, processed in Photomatix.
Due to bandwidth constraints, I post many more photos on my Facebook page. If you are on Facebook, feel free to "like" my page and follow me. :)

In these days it is not easy to take new pictures, because the weather is anything but spring. These are cold, gray and unpleasant days now, which will hopefully soon be replaced by beautiful spring days. But that is nature, it does not look at us, but we have to look at nature and make the best out of it. That's how this early morning autumn picture came to my mind. I enjoy the golden colors and the calm, peaceful mood that radiates on me again and again. I could sit there for a long time and look back gratefully for moments of happiness and joy. Also on this beautiful morning when it was very cold and the ground already frosty. But the warm sunbeams were as balm for the soul and the golden larks a dream to look at.
It is my little paradise where I can give my soul new strength and fresh air to my heart. I need loneliness and silence in nature more and more. It will probably have something to do with my age. I get back so much there and can be myself, in the heart free from constraints.
All elements form a harmonious unity in this place. I'm looking for that harmony so much. Life seems so hectic to me and everything passes so quickly. The silence and harmony are the anchor that I need so much.
I'm glad that I can share my picture and thoughts with you my dear friends. I'm fine and I hope to give you a little joy. It is my heart's desire. Looking foreward with you for more sunny and warmer days in spring.

It's a year since I started to feel a bit better after being hit hard with Covid and almost a year to the day since my sister died from Covid. So much has happened since then - some bad but mostly very good including of course upping sticks and moving to France to start a new life. Stay safe. Keep well. Most of all, be happy. 😊
The House Lounge has been open to the public since the commission of the Benton murals in 1935 when visitors were allowed to observe the project in progress. With the exception of meetings scheduled by legislators, the lounge continues to remain open to the public. At the time the mural was painted legislators did not have their own offices, so the lounge served as a place for legislators to congregate.
In December 1936, Thomas Hart Benton completed his mural of A Social History of the State of Missouri. Although the commission for the murals stipulated social history as the topic, the artist had free rein to explore that as he wished free from the constraints of an oversight committee or other controls. Although his work initially faced harsh criticism, Benton believed his paintings represented the character of the Midwest, capturing the vitality and essence of Missouri through everyday scenes.

Frozen, Buachaille Etive Mòr, Rannoch Moor, Scotland
I arrived in Glencoe two days before leading my four day workshop back in February 2015 and arriving early allows me time to shoot for myself as well as scouting out new locations to shoot. This 'me time' often has me free of all professional constraints in assisting others and allows my mind to lock onto compositions and to capture the mood of the location a little easier.
This image was born from such freedom and i particularly liked the frozen sections of ice sitting there while fast flowing water whooshed by underneath. The snow capped Buachaille in the background as per usual finishes the scene off beautifully.
I hope you all like it.

This unusual looking car is the Lancia D50, a Formula One car designed by Vittorio Jano in 1954 and raced competitively in 14 World Championship Grand Prix, with a tally of 5 victories to its name. The car was first driven competitively by the then reigning World Champion Alberto Ascari at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, who took pole and fastest lap on the cars debut in the 1954 season, although the car had a mechanical issue and retired from the race.
Ascari went on to win the Turin and Naples GP's, but then had an accident at Monaco when his car crashed into the harbour as he took the lead. Although rescued from this incident, Ascari then suffered a crash during a test session for Scuderia Ferrari at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza 4 days later and died (aged 36). He was driving at that time a Ferrari 750 Monza that he wasn't supposed to drive that day, but decided to attempt a few laps anyway. Wearing a jacket and tie, and fellow racer Castellotti's white helmet, he rolled the Ferrari 750 several times and was thrown from the car, and was killed instantly.
The Lancia D50 features a number if unusual design elements, most notably the external fuel tanks that run along the length of the car in a pannier style, said to improve weight distribution. The car also uses the engine as part of the chassis frame, and with an offset position, allows the car to have a reduced height, again improving the cars centre of gravity and supposedly providing an aerodynamic advantage as well.
The Lancia family, due to financial constraints, sold their controlling share in the Lancia company, and the assets of Scuderia Lancia were given to Scuderia Ferrari, who continued to develop the car which became rebadged as a Lancia-Ferrari D50, and then Ferrari D50. Juan Manuel Fangio went on to win the 1956 World Drivers Championship in the D50, although by that time many of the unusual design features seen in the Vittorio Jano original were abandoned in favour of more conventional practices of the time.
