This console table was made in Rome in about 1700 of gilded pine, with a stone composite top veneered in Breccia.
It appears in the V&A exhibition Baroque: Style in the Age of Magnificence.
This kind of table, with a coloured marble top and massive gilded stand, is typical of the exuberant furnishings found in Baroque palaces in Rome. Inspired by the carving of papal thrones and ambassadorial coaches, the style was published and circulated by means of engravings.

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN - This elegant, low TV console made from mahogany is a refreshing change from the same-same built-ins one sees in EVERY apartment in Singapore. The flat screen can be mounted on the wall above, and then the top can hold the DVD/Wii/Playstation/etc. Meanwhile DVDs and games can be stored below, out of sight. Simple and different.
Length 140cm, depth 50cm, height 50cm
Here it is. We haven't been holding out on you, we promise. This steampunk TV console is so astoundingly awesome that I am at a loss as to what I could say rather than gesture, mutely, towards the photograph. [Gestures mutely.] No, but, space for components with plenty of room for power cords, storage for DVDs and games, and OH MY GOD THE WHEELS!! [Faints helplessly.] It can really roll, too. Are you badass enough for this? 180cm wide, 41cm deep, 75cm high

The BBC built this 'remake' of the season 20 console (skipped after 'The Two Doctors' in 85) this was Bruce Hill's production for the 50th anniversary trailer. I provided the time rotor and centre panel with the big red door knob. BobsBits replicated two other random console panels, but they retained them after filming. I accepted delivery of this console from Bruce & the production, after filming the 50th anniversary trailer was completed Bruce told me he thought it such a shame to 'skip' it - when he knew it would be going to a good home by 'gifting it' to me! I was thrilled (wanted to have this console since seeing it at LONGLEAT 83 at the age of 8). recently I have been working very hard on using as many of the original parts -salvaged by Mike Tucker, Andrew Beech, JNT and myself. to remake the remaining panels and make it a little more accurate to Peter Davison's era! so far so good. It's magic! MBH
