Riyaz Shaikh is an Indian professional athlete, promoter, trainer, model, dancer, brand ambassador and one of the the top 5 consistent performers in IHFF Olympia and Sheru Classic. When his diligence commenced to captivate fame, he was offered to be the brand ambassador of many lifestyle grooming, clothing, and sports supplement companies.
Early Life
Every great achievement starts with a dream and a hyper active approach to conquer it. As a child, Mr. Riyaz Shaikh loved the sport of cricket, and other outdoor activities, while giving equal attention to his studies. His passion and zest for rigorous pursuits made him a thin and tanned kid. But these are the trophies of hard work. His dynamic agility also made him a subject to saddening social horrors like bullying, colorism, body shaming, etc. Because of such constant mocks, he was on the brink of turning into an upset and underconfident child. But whatever doesn’t stop us, just makes us stronger. Through television, he started gaining new perceptions about athletes and their work. He acquired an unbendable aspiration, and an enthusiasm to be known for his triumphs. After he passed his 12th standard, he joined a gymnasium and started training, and health dieting. With consistent efforts and discipline, he gained a competent amount of muscles with the flexibility of an athlete.
Career
Fueled by the inspiration of becoming like his idols, Riyaz Shaikh joined acting classes, en route to a modeling career. As his career began to take off through a few shows, he realized that his ambition has been misplaced from being an athlete to a model and an actor. His ultimate goal has always been athletics. So, he quit acting and started competing on some of the most famous and laudable international athletic platforms such as Sheru Classic, where he ranked 4th in the year 2019, and International Health, Sports, & Fitness Festival Olympia (IHFF), where he ranked 5th in both the years 2018 and 2019.
He gathered recognition through his commendable work and was offered the position of a brand ambassador at Spartan Sports Sciences Supplements, one of the leading sport nutrition supplement company of India. Currently, he works for various top-notch offline and online brands like Amazon, Flipkart, etc. His recent collaborations include a men’s lifestyle & grooming product brand known as ‘CHACHA LIFESTYLES’.
His esteemed accomplishments earned him the stature to inaugurate sundry shops and gyms. And today, he stands firm as an international athlete who receives modeling offers from around the world.
With his wisdom, acquirements, and prominence, he has set his foot on a journey elevate the lives of countless others by training them, guiding them towards a healthier & fitter life, and exhilarate them about themselves because Riyaz Shaikh believes that at the end of the day what really matters is our self and that we should not criticize ourselves by the outlook & hypothesis of the others. Personal Life
Mr. Riyaz graduated with the Bachelor of Commerce degree, a three-year undergraduate course. To begin his career as an actor, he attended Asha K Chandra Institute of Acting in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He retains a wide range of interests and hobbies like dancing, working out, traveling, cooking, sports, etc. He spent a lot of his childhood playing cricket. Also, has a proclivity for foods like pancakes, waffles, seafood dishes, and Baklava in sweets. Mr. Riyaz says that he is deeply obliged to the people who supported him in his initial stage, and to the people who still support and love him.
The National Wallace Monument commemorates Sir William Wallace. He was one of the very few who consistently opposed the efforts of King Edward I of England to impose his will, and ultimately his supremacy, over Scotland and the Scots in the years around 1300.
The Wallace, as he is often known, is one of the most powerful, most evocative, and most well recognised figures from Scottish history. It is a fair bet that today his name is better known worldwide than most, if not all, of Scotland's monarchs.
Yet he was never a king; his notable deeds took place over a very short period of time, part of which he actually spent in France; he fought just two major battles and emerged with a score of won one and lost one, and in the end he was betrayed and executed.
There's a contradiction here. Behind it lies the stunningly good press that William Wallace has received over the centuries. Most notably, the bard Blind Harry wrote an epic 1470 poem, The Acts and Deeds of Sir William Wallace, Knight of Elderslie. This introduced the story of Wallace as the heroic figure we now all know, at times without too much regard for the actual historical facts.
But it was not Blind Harry who brought Wallace's story to the attention of a worldwide audience, it was Mel Gibson. His 1995 film Braveheart added another layer of artistic license to the one already applied by Blind Harry. The result has been criticised for its lack of historical accuracy. But critics of what is, without doubt, a superbly entertaining and enormously popular film, miss the point. The point is that the historical accuracy of the film doesn't really matter, just as the historical accuracy of Blind Harry's poem didn't really matter. People believe what they want to believe, and for a nation in search of national heroes, William Wallace fitted the bill perfectly: and still does.
But let's wind the story back to the mid-1800s. Scotland, with more than a little help from Sir Walter Scott, was going through an earlier phase of the rediscovery of its sense of national pride and identity after a period during which for many it had become "North Britain". Blind Harry's William Wallace was a perfect focus for the celebration of this new sense of identity and as a result statues of him and monuments to him began to spring up all over the country, with more than 20 being built in all.
But many wanted a national monument to William Wallace that could be venerated by everyone in Scotland. Funds were raised from the public, and a competition was launched for a design for the monument after an initial proposal was deemed too anti-English (of a Scottish lion in the act of killing a mythical English creature). 106 entries were submitted and the design that was selected was by the Scots Baronial architect J.T. Rochead.
His approach was to marry together two uniquely Scottish features. He took the traditional design of a Scottish tower house castle, complete with an external stair turret, and stretched it vertically. Then he added to the top a stone crown spire, of the sort seen atop the towers of St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh and King's College in Aberdeen.
The question of location had been decided some years earlier. Both Edinburgh and Glasgow wanted to be home to the monument, and Stirling was chosen mainly because it could be seen as neutral territory. Having decided on Stirling, the choice of the rocky outcrop of Abbey Craig was an obvious one for the monument, for three main reasons. Firstly, if you are going to build a monument intended to make a statement, putting it on top of a high outcrop of rock allows it to make the biggest statement possible. Secondly, Abbey Craig could be quarried to provide the stone needed to build the monument.
The third reason for the location was that Abbey Craig overlooks the site of William Wallace's most notable victory over the English, the Battle of Stirling Bridge, which took place on 11 September 1297. This was fought around the original wooden bridge over the River Forth at Stirling, in the shadow of Stirling Castle and just below Abbey Craig. The original bridge lay a short distance upstream from the stone bridge known today as Old Stirling Bridge. The Scots attacked from the Abbey Craig when the English were half deployed across the bridge and won an overwhelming victory. After the battle, Wallace was knighted by an unnamed Earl and became Sir William Wallace "Guardian of the Kingdom of Scotland and leader of its armies." His co-leader, Andrew Murray fared less well, dying some time later from wounds received during the battle. Wallace followed up the victory by leading the Scots into Northumberland and Cumbria, retreating only when the weather became too bad to continue the campaign.
The true historical significance of the Battle of Stirling Bridge is debatable. The English returned to Scotland in early 1298, trying to draw Wallace into open battle. This eventually happened at the Battle of Falkirk, on 22 July 1298. Defeat there was the beginning of the end for Wallace who was eventually executed in London on 23 August 1305. But as we've already said, none of this is really about history: the myth of Wallace has a life of its own that remains hugely influential.
The National Wallace Monument you see today was completed in 1869 after eight years' construction. It stands some 220ft or 67m high, and Abbey Craig adds a further 300ft or 91m, meaning that the top of the monument stands 520ft above the (tidal) River Forth below.

On 17 June 2011, DigitalGlobe satellite imagery revealed several C-shaped white bundles in the locality of northern Kadugli, known as El Shaeer. This alleged mass grave site is located 1.4 km from the Central Reserve Police training camp, 1.5 km from the UNMIS comound, and 3.4 km from the Kadugli Airport. As of 4 July, updated imagery shows that the white bundles have been moved from their previous position and a new circle of disturbed earth consistent with a slightly recessed hole and earth-covered objects in its center appears at the site. By 6 August, more irregularly-shaped white bundles are placed in the center of the hole, with more white bundles on the ground outside of the hole. Satellite imagery then shows that by 19 August, the hole has been covered completely.

Gerridae
The Gerridae are a family of insects in the order Hemiptera, commonly known as water striders, water bugs, pond skaters, water skippers, or jesus bugs. Consistent with the classification of the Gerridae as true bugs (i.e., suborder Heteroptera), gerrids have mouthparts evolved for piercing and sucking, and distinguish themselves by having the unique ability to walk on water. Gerridae, or water striders, are anatomically built to transfer their weight to be able to run on top of the water's surface. As a result, one could likely find water striders present in any pond, river, or lake. Scientists have identified over 1,700 species of gerrids, 10% of them being marine.
While 90% of the Gerridae are freshwater bugs, the oceanic Halobates makes the family quite exceptional among insects. The genus Halobates was first heavily studied between 1822 and 1883 when Buchanan-White collected several different species during the Challenger Expedition. Around this time, Eschscholtz discovered three species of the Gerridae, bringing attention to the species, though little of their biology was known. Since then, the Gerridae have been continuously studied due to their ability to walk on water and unique social characteristics. Small gerrids have frequently been confused with the other semiaquatic bugs, the Veliidae. The most consistent characteristic used to separate these two families are internal genitalia differences. Since internal genitalia require specific training and tools to identify, it is almost impossible to tell a member of the Gerridae apart from a member of the Veliidae by external visual cues. One must study their habitat and behaviors to properly differentiate the two without looking at their specific anatomy.
Water striders are able to walk on top of water due to a combination of several factors. Water striders use the high surface tension of water and long, hydrophobic legs to help them stay above water. Water molecules are polar and this causes them to attract to each other.
Gerridae species use this surface tension to their advantage through their highly adapted legs and distributed weight. The legs of a water strider are long and slender, allowing the weight of the water strider body to be distributed over a large surface area. The legs are strong, but have flexibility that allows the water striders to keep their weight evenly distributed and flow with the water movement. Hydrofuge hairs line the body surface of the water strider. There are several thousand hairs per square millimeter, providing the water strider with a hydrofuge body that prevents wetting from waves, rain, or spray, which could inhibit their ability to keep their entire body above the water surface if the water stuck and weighed down the body. This position of keeping the majority of the body above the water surface is called an epipleustonic position, which is a defining characteristic of water striders. If the body of the water strider were to accidentally become submerged, for instance by a large wave, the tiny hairs would trap air. Tiny air bubbles throughout the body act as buoyancy to bring the water strider to the surface again, while also providing air bubbles to breathe from underwater.
The tiny hairs on the legs provide both a hydrophobic surface as well as a larger surface area to spread their weight over the water. The middle legs used for rowing have particularly well developed fringe hairs on the tibia and tarsus to help increase movement through the ability to thrust. The hind pair of legs are used for steering When the rowing stroke begins, the middle tarsi of gerrids are quickly pressed down and backwards to create a circular surface wave in which the crest can be used to propel a forward thrust. The semicircular wave created is essential to the ability of the water strider to move rapidly since it acts as a counteracting force to push against. As a result, water striders often move at 1 meter per second or faster.
Gerridae generally inhabit surfaces of calm waters. The majority of water striders inhabit freshwater areas, with the exception of Halobates. Gerridae prefer an environment abundant with insects or zooplankton and one that contains several rocks or plants to oviposit eggs on. It has been studied by prevalence of water striders in varying environments, that water striders most prefer waters around 25 degrees Celsius. Any water temperature lower than 22 degrees Celsius is unfavorable. This is likely due to the fact that development rates of young are temperature dependent. The cooler the surrounding waters, the slower the development of the young is. Prominent genera Gerridae are present in Wales, the former U.S.S.R., Canada, U.S., South Africa, South America, Australia, China and Malaysia. None have been yet identified in New Zealand waters.

We will continue our tour Niagara Falls by heading into Canada to take the Hornblower Cruise boat ride and see an informational movie at the IMAX Theater. We will also ascend the Skylon Tower. The tour then departs for Toronto, ON, one of Canada's largest cities. There we will visit the CN Tower and guests will have the option to take a Lake Ontario Cruise. During the winter when the cruise is not running, we will instead visit Casa Loma. We will have dinner in historical Chinatown.

El Gobernador del Estado acudió a la rendición de cuentas ante la ciudadanía de los alcaldes de El Llano, Tepezalá, Asientos y San Francisco de los Romo
El Gobernador del Estado, Carlos Lozano de la Torre, luego de asistir, acompañado de su esposa, Blanca Rivera Rio de Lozano, a las ceremonias de rendición de cuentas del Segundo año de administración de los municipios de El Llano, Tepezalá, Asientos y San Francisco de los Romo, aseguró que su gobierno mantendrá el eficaz y estrecho contacto con todos y cada uno de los Presidentes Municipales para asegurar se implemente a cabalidad una política pública de entendimiento y trabajo con los Ayuntamientos para hacer llegar con prontitud los recursos y las obras que demandan los ciudadanos.
“Lo hemos establecido firmemente, y así será durante mi administración: todos los ciudadanos, sin importar que estén en las comunidades más alejadas o en la capital del estado, están llamados a consolidar esta gran colaboración social e institucional, y los Poderes del Estado, los órdenes de gobierno, los sectores productivos, los sindicatos, los obreros, campesinos, y con todos los sectores y fuerzas sociales estamos haciendo un gran esfuerzo para que la seguridad, el empleo, las inversiones y el bienestar estén sean una realidad cotidiana en los once municipios y, por ende, para todos los aguascalentenses”, dijo.
Por separado, los presidentes municipales de El Llano, José Luis Martínez; Tepezalá, Jesús Medina; Asientos, Baudelio Esparza y San Francisco de Los Romo, Francisco Guel Sosa, manifestaron su total reconocimiento a la apertura, apoyo y compromiso que tiene el Gobernador Carlos Lozano de la Torre con los habitantes del interior del estado.
En el municipio de El Llano, el presidente municipal José Luis Martínez Rodríguez reconoció el interés del mandatario estatal en la aportación de recursos para la aplicación de proyectos estratégicos para el ayuntamiento, destacando que, con el apoyo del Gobierno de Carlos Lozano de la Torre, su administración logró un importante impulso para el desarrollo económico y la generación del empleo con el arribo de la empresa Viam Manufacturing, que con una inversión de 38 millones de dólares generará más de 300 nuevos puestos de trabajo, arrancando sus operaciones el próximo 7 de marzo de 2013.
El edil de El Llano mencionó también importantes logros, como la puesta en marcha de la Universidad Tecnológica Internacional, que demandó una inversión de 33 millones de pesos y que ya da cabida a 140 alumnos, además de las obras de remozamiento del Centro histórico, donde se invirtieron 23 millones de pesos y las obras en tramos carreteros, que sumaron casi 102 millones de pesos.
José Luis Martínez Rodríguez recordó también la puesta en marcha de la escuela Nissan Andanac, en la que se invirtieron 8 millones de pesos, así como el próximo arranque de las obras para edificar la Preparatoria de la comunidad El Terremoto.
Posteriormente el gobernador Carlos Lozano de la Torre se trasladó al municipio de Tepezalá, donde su alcalde Jesús Santillán Medina rindió su informe en las instalaciones del auditorio municipal.
Tras destacar el carácter municipalista de la actual administración el edil agradeció el apoyo incondicional del Gobernador Carlos Lozano de la Torre para sanear las maltrechas economías municipales que les fueron heredadas.
Igualmente Jesús Santillán Medina refirió que gracias al trabajo que se ha realizado de la mano con el Gobierno del Estado, en los tepezalenses existe un renovado ánimo de crecimiento y desarrollo, así como la implementación de nuevas estrategias que permitan buscar mejores condiciones de vida.
Igualmente, el alcalde Jesús Medina Santillán reconoció la incansable labor del Gobernador Carlos Lozano de la Torre para resolver las necesidades de empleo de los habitantes de este municipio, al realizar una efectiva promoción para que nuevas empresas se comprometan a resolver las urgentes necesidades de la población del lugar “y hoy como nunca, se ha visto una participación que nos permite ofrecer apoyo a familias de escasos recursos económicos, los materiales que requieren para tener una casa, una escuela y espacios dignos para la población”.
Por su parte Baudelio Esparza Reyes alcalde de Asientos, dijo ser parte de un gobierno equitativo, responsable, con rumbo y certeza, al continuar con la visión del Gobernador del Estado para la construcción de un estado con destino.
Baudelio Esparza informó que su administración ha enfatizado su labor en la generación de obras de beneficio social, priorizando las que tienen que ver con mejor dotación de agua, drenaje, guarniciones, banquetas, malla sombras en escuelas y las instalaciones y actividades deportivas, además de trabajar arduamente en la remodelación del centro histórico.
En este sentido, el alcalde de Asientos destacó la inversión por 18 millones de pesos para el fortalecimiento de la infraestructura turística, así como la inversión por 21 millones de pesos en obras de agua y alcantarillado, y la aplicación de 55 millones de pesos para el programa de Empleo Temporal para atenuar los efectos de la sequía, con los que se generaron 85 mil jornales.
Así mismo, informó que su administración, con el apoyo del Gobierno del Estado, ha generado un sistema de becas que ha beneficiado a 952 estudiantes de primaria, mientras que 10 comunidades se vieron beneficiadas con la pavimentación de calles, al tiempo que la comunidad de Villa Juárez cuenta ya con la rehabilitación de su jardín principal y el templo de Nuestra Señora del Refugio, además de contar ya con un nuevo panteón con 3440 fosas, mientras que la comunidad Pilotos recibió 3 millones de pesos para la renovación de su sistema de distribución de agua potable.
Inmediatamente después, el Gobernador del Estado se trasladó al municipio de San Francisco de los Romo, donde asistió a la rendición de cuentas del Alcalde Francisco Javier Guel Sosa, quien destacó la visión del Gobernador Carlos Lozano de la Torre, quien se ha convertido en la piedra angular de los logros y metas cumplidas de los proyectos de San Francisco de los Romo.
“Ha sido el Gobernador del Estado, Carlos Lozano de la Torre, un eficaz promotor del verdadero municipalismo, y en el caso de San Francisco de los Romo sin duda nos hemos visto beneficiados por esta total disposición del titular del poder ejecutivo del estado, quien en todo momento nos ha tendido la mano para atender con prontitud las demandas y exigencias de los habitantes de este municipio”
El alcalde francoromense hizo un llamado a la unidad en torno al Presidente Enrique Peña Nieto y el Gobernador Carlos Lozano de la Torre, con quienes debe trabajarse de manera coordinada para lograr mejores gobiernos y excelentes resultados para los ciudadanos.
“Los presentes tiempos exigen construir y avanzar, no obstaculizar ni retroceder, exigen acordar y unir. El presidente de la República Enrique Peña Nieto ha dado el ejemplo de que en la construcción de acuerdos, en la suma de esfuerzos y en una política articulada, el único que gana es México. Soy orgullosamente priísta, en los postulados de mi partido concibo la plataforma de buen gobierno, los tomo como la principal directriz de un ejercicio responsable de gobierno”, concluyó el alcalde de este municipio.

I'm not at work today because of a consistent neck pain lasted for the past two days. iPhoto was opened and my son saw this photo I took in Hakone and instantly recall his favorite noodle experiences in his first overseas trip, in this case cold soba!
I especially like how coffee was being served in this shop and the look of this lovely soup kettle. Photo was taken with a Voigtlander 35mm/f1.2 on AGFA 100 slide.

We will continue our tour Niagara Falls by heading into Canada to take the Hornblower Cruise boat ride and see an informational movie at the IMAX Theater. We will also ascend the Skylon Tower. The tour then departs for Toronto, ON, one of Canada's largest cities. There we will visit the CN Tower and guests will have the option to take a Lake Ontario Cruise. During the winter when the cruise is not running, we will instead visit Casa Loma. We will have dinner in historical Chinatown.

John John Florence, the hottest young surfer on the planet today, has continued his winning streak by taking out the ASP Prime rated Telstra Drug Aware Pro at Margaret River today.
Nineteen year old Florence won a hotly contested, all-Hawaiian final against 25 year old Olamana Eleogram, who could not continue his giant-killing dream run after earlier eliminating top seeds Owen Wright and Josh Kerr in the man on man heats.
Florence was clearly the form surfer of the event heading into the final, having consistently recorded 16 point plus heat scores over the week. Florence progressed after an amazing face-off against fellow teen prodigy Kolohe Andino in the Round of 16 late on Friday afternoon. John John made up for loss to Andino in a No Loser round earlier that day with a scorching score of 19.70 featuring the first and only ten point ride of the competition.
The wind died down and the swell began to pulse for the Men’s final after strong offshore winds made surfing in the early morning finals difficult. Eleogram was the first to strike in the 35 minute final, catching a right hander to bank an early score of 6.00. Florence soon responded with a 7.00 point right hander and backed it up straight away with another nice right, nailing an enormous finishing turn to score 7.83.
The final then became a backhand battle between the two natural footers as the lefthander began to offer the best scoring potential in the changing wind. Eleogram went left under priority hitting a number of critical turns to score an 8.83 to take the lead. But that only seemed to make Florence more determined as he aggressively attacked consecutive lefthanders, taking to the air on both waves to land scintillating backside reverse aerials, impressing the judges with scores of 9.43 and 9.33 to take a solid grip on the final by the half way mark with a total of 18.76.
That left Eleogram needing a perfect ride for the win, as Florence continued to put on a jaw-dropping display of new-school innovative surfing. The challenge proved too great for the affable Eleogram, who had to be content with making an ASP Prime final for the first time in his career.
“I was so stoked about being in the final with a good friend, a guy I grew up surfing with as a young kid,” said Florence after he had been chaired up the staircase from the beach by his mates. “Some great waves came through early in the heat and I felt loose and relaxed and hit a few airs. The wind here is just like home and it was pushing into the left for a change and gave me a chance to get up on a couple.” But the cool Florence did admit to some jitters midway into the final. “I started to get nervous with about fifteen minutes left, just thinking this could turn around on me, you just never know.”
The win for Florence continues a hot start to 2012, his rookie year on the ASP World Tour, as he won the season starting ASP 5 star Volcom Pipe Pro at his home beach in Hawaii, before going through to the last 16 at the opening World Tour event at Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast earlier this month. It marks a rare streak of form for the Hawaiian prodigy who first rose to prominence on the tour when he became the youngest ever surfer to clinch the coveted Vans Triple Crown at his home breaks in Hawaii at the end of 2011, clinching his place on the ASP World Tour for 2012.
Florence’s performance at this event will go down as one of the most dominant in the event’s history. Florence has collected five of the top ten single wave scores and the top thee two-wave heat totals thanks to his full repertoire. Florence defeated fellow Hawaiian Olamana Eleogram (HAW) in the Final by scoring two 9-point-rides, for mixing huge power gouges with technical aerials.
“I’ve been having a lot of fun this week,” Florence said. “The waves are are a lot like at home, even the wind when it’s good for airs is a lot like Hawaii. The waves have been fun in all of my heats. I’m so stoked to win. This gives me a lot of confidence going into Bells because I hear the waves are similar. I was so stoked to make the Final with Ola (Eleogram) at Margaret River.”
Mark Occhilupo (AUS), 1999 ASP World Champion, although retired from full-time competition decided to come to Margaret River and attempt to win the event for his third time. Occhilupo’s affinity for Margaret River was clear from day one, with surf fans being treated to watching his iconic style and flair as he progressed through the contest. His dream run ended in the last minute of his Semifinal today, when Olamana Eleogram (HAW) posted a 6.50 and took the lead, sending Occhilupo home with an equal 3rd place finish.
“I have had the best time this week,” Occhilupo said. “In that Semifinal I had a pretty bad heat. A wave came at the end that I could have gotten the score on, but I fell. I’m going to go away and keep thinking about that. I’m still beating myself up about it. By the time I get home it will have sunken in and I will be stoked with third. That competitive nature doesn’t ever leave you.”
Courtney Conlogue Goes Back-To-Back At The Telstra Drug Aware Pro Margaret River
Courtney Conlogue (USA), reigning Telstra Drug Aware Pro event champion, today won the event for the second year in a row. Conlogue’s powerful backhand attack is perfectly suited to these powerful South West WA waves. The young Californian dominated the Final against Hawaiian Malia Manuel (HAW), posting two scores in the 8-point-range (out of a possible 10), to etch her name on the winners list once again.
“I was trying not to think about going back-to-back too much because I didn’t want to put pressure on myself,” Conlogue said. “I’m stoked to have gotten two in a row. This place taught me a lot last year and the years before. The first time I came here I lost in the second round and it was quite an embarrassing heat. Going from that to what I’ve done now feels great, and each year I come back I feel like I get to know the waves better and better. Now I’m looking forward to going to Bells because this place is great training for down there.”

In the consistent light rain and mist common at this altitude the gleaming bronze trunks of Stewartia monadelpha contrast strongly with the brilliant green of the forest.
This was taken through the scope at about 60 feet. They first appeared here last weekend and I have been able to find them consistently at this spot, since then.
Domenica scorsa, nell'indifferenza generale, s'è tenuto il referendum confermativo per una legge ignota ai più e consistente in questo: se passa la legge ci sono meno partiti, se non passa restano quelli di prima, e in più le quote di protezione per le femmine politiche e modifiche alle norme sul presidente della regione.
Questo è tutto quello che sapevo sulla legge, e pensavo che fosse poco.
Fatto sta che grazie a compare Cinico, nominato presidente di seggio, ho fatto da segretario nella sezione n. 41 (in quella accanto c'era una ragazza stupenda e bellissima che sapeva anche disegnare, appassionata di fotografie e con bei gusti in fatto di musica. Solo che non so come si chiami né che numero di telefono abbia) ed ho potuto notare che sull'argomento la maggior parte delle persone era più ignorante di me.
Intanto, l'affluenza è stata bassissima, nel mio seggio s'è presentato un avente diritto su 8, ed in generale la media è del 10% (meglio è andata nella vicina città di Milazzo, credo, o a Catania, e insomma in tutti i posti in cui c'erano le elezioni e chi andava a votare trovava con sorpresa una scheda in più da crocettare); poi, un altro 10% di schede non mostrava preferenze e solo un burlone s'è degnato di scrivere qualcosa, e siccome c'è la recessione nessuno ha pensato di mettere la 20 euro con la scritta "mangiatevi pure queste" (peccato!); poi ancora, molti votanti non sapevano quale fosse la legge da approvare, e alcuni si son stupiti di trovare una scheda sola, perché è da giorni che si sente in TV che i quesiti sono 4 (in effetti è vero, quelli per la procreazione assistita sono proprio quattro)...
Insomma, nessuno sapeva niente, e trovandoci in una città del Sud sembra quasi un trito cliché.
Questo m'ha dato da pensare.
Cioè, d'accordo, il referendum era senza quorum e quindi anche con una scarsa affluenza sarebbe stato valido, ma mi domando: perché né da destra né da sinistra han fatto pressioni in un senso o nell'altro?
Per la strada ho visto giusto giusto 4 manifesti di AN che voleva il Sì e altri 4 dei DS che volevano il Califfone, ma per il resto acqua morta.
In ciò, questo veridico disegno che accompagna il presente post e che ritrae il Votarxy alle prese con il primo votante di quel giorno è a modo suo una metafora della situazione meridionale almeno da come si mostra in queste occasioni.

We will continue our tour Niagara Falls by heading into Canada to take the Hornblower Cruise boat ride and see an informational movie at the IMAX Theater. We will also ascend the Skylon Tower. The tour then departs for Toronto, ON, one of Canada's largest cities. There we will visit the CN Tower and guests will have the option to take a Lake Ontario Cruise. During the winter when the cruise is not running, we will instead visit Casa Loma. We will have dinner in historical Chinatown.

“el Panevin”
I Panevin, sono una tradizione popolare del Nordest consistente nel bruciare delle grandi cataste di legno e frasche nei primi giorni di gennaio, solitamente la vigilia(5 gennaio) dell'epifania.
Data la sua larga diffusione, ne esistono moltissime versioni e denominazioni:
-in Friuli è detto pignarûl (plurale pignarûi),
-in Veneto panevìn o panaìn (da pan e vin "pane e vino", il povero cibo che si consuma durante il falò), pìrola-pàrola, vècia ("vecchia": le pire possono assumere la forma di un fantoccio),
-nel basso Friuli e nel Veneto Orientale foghèra o casèra.
Sembra che questa usanza risalga a riti pre-cristiani: i Celti infatti accendevano dei fuochi per ingraziarsi la divinità relativa e bruciavano un fantoccio rappresentante il passato.
Rimasta intatta come rituale da svolgersi nella vigilia dell'Epifania, ancor oggi la fiamma simboleggia la speranza e la forza di bruciare il vecchio (non a caso si può bruciare la "vecchia" posta sopra la pira di legna) e la direzione delle scintille viene letta come presagio per il futuro.
Secondo l’antico proverbio:
Se e fuìve e va a matìna, ciòl su'l sàc e và a farina;
se e fuìve e va a sera, pàn e poènta a pièn caliera
Traduzione:
Se le faville vanno a Mattina e quindi a est, prendi il sacco e va a farina;
Se le faville vanno a Sera e quindi a ovest, pane e polenta riempiranno il calderone.
Curioso sapere che nel friulano il proverbio è diverso: “se il fum al va a soreli a mont, cjape il sac e va pal mont; se il fum invezit al va de bande di soreli jevât, cjape il sac e va al marcjât” (se il fumo va a occidente, prendi il sacco e va per il mondo [emigra in cerca di lavoro]; se il fumo invece va a oriente, prendi il sacco e va al mercato).
Mentre il Panevin arde, la folla canta varie formule augurali, che sembrano quasi voler indirizzare il fumo nel verso giusto. Il rogo viene talvolta benedetto dal parroco con l'acqua santa.
Un'altra credenza ritiene che la caduta del palo che sostiene la catasta possa portare male. In alcune zone esso doveva restare in piedi per almeno otto giorni.
Tale rito viene accompagnato dalla degustazione di vin brulè e di pinza, focaccia tipica di questa festa e cotta talvolta tramite gli stessi roghi.
Il fumo andava verso sera....
The National Wallace Monument commemorates Sir William Wallace. He was one of the very few who consistently opposed the efforts of King Edward I of England to impose his will, and ultimately his supremacy, over Scotland and the Scots in the years around 1300.
The Wallace, as he is often known, is one of the most powerful, most evocative, and most well recognised figures from Scottish history. It is a fair bet that today his name is better known worldwide than most, if not all, of Scotland's monarchs.
Yet he was never a king; his notable deeds took place over a very short period of time, part of which he actually spent in France; he fought just two major battles and emerged with a score of won one and lost one, and in the end he was betrayed and executed.
There's a contradiction here. Behind it lies the stunningly good press that William Wallace has received over the centuries. Most notably, the bard Blind Harry wrote an epic 1470 poem, The Acts and Deeds of Sir William Wallace, Knight of Elderslie. This introduced the story of Wallace as the heroic figure we now all know, at times without too much regard for the actual historical facts.
But it was not Blind Harry who brought Wallace's story to the attention of a worldwide audience, it was Mel Gibson. His 1995 film Braveheart added another layer of artistic license to the one already applied by Blind Harry. The result has been criticised for its lack of historical accuracy. But critics of what is, without doubt, a superbly entertaining and enormously popular film, miss the point. The point is that the historical accuracy of the film doesn't really matter, just as the historical accuracy of Blind Harry's poem didn't really matter. People believe what they want to believe, and for a nation in search of national heroes, William Wallace fitted the bill perfectly: and still does.
But let's wind the story back to the mid-1800s. Scotland, with more than a little help from Sir Walter Scott, was going through an earlier phase of the rediscovery of its sense of national pride and identity after a period during which for many it had become "North Britain". Blind Harry's William Wallace was a perfect focus for the celebration of this new sense of identity and as a result statues of him and monuments to him began to spring up all over the country, with more than 20 being built in all.
But many wanted a national monument to William Wallace that could be venerated by everyone in Scotland. Funds were raised from the public, and a competition was launched for a design for the monument after an initial proposal was deemed too anti-English (of a Scottish lion in the act of killing a mythical English creature). 106 entries were submitted and the design that was selected was by the Scots Baronial architect J.T. Rochead.
His approach was to marry together two uniquely Scottish features. He took the traditional design of a Scottish tower house castle, complete with an external stair turret, and stretched it vertically. Then he added to the top a stone crown spire, of the sort seen atop the towers of St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh and King's College in Aberdeen.
The question of location had been decided some years earlier. Both Edinburgh and Glasgow wanted to be home to the monument, and Stirling was chosen mainly because it could be seen as neutral territory. Having decided on Stirling, the choice of the rocky outcrop of Abbey Craig was an obvious one for the monument, for three main reasons. Firstly, if you are going to build a monument intended to make a statement, putting it on top of a high outcrop of rock allows it to make the biggest statement possible. Secondly, Abbey Craig could be quarried to provide the stone needed to build the monument.
The third reason for the location was that Abbey Craig overlooks the site of William Wallace's most notable victory over the English, the Battle of Stirling Bridge, which took place on 11 September 1297. This was fought around the original wooden bridge over the River Forth at Stirling, in the shadow of Stirling Castle and just below Abbey Craig. The original bridge lay a short distance upstream from the stone bridge known today as Old Stirling Bridge. The Scots attacked from the Abbey Craig when the English were half deployed across the bridge and won an overwhelming victory. After the battle, Wallace was knighted by an unnamed Earl and became Sir William Wallace "Guardian of the Kingdom of Scotland and leader of its armies." His co-leader, Andrew Murray fared less well, dying some time later from wounds received during the battle. Wallace followed up the victory by leading the Scots into Northumberland and Cumbria, retreating only when the weather became too bad to continue the campaign.
The true historical significance of the Battle of Stirling Bridge is debatable. The English returned to Scotland in early 1298, trying to draw Wallace into open battle. This eventually happened at the Battle of Falkirk, on 22 July 1298. Defeat there was the beginning of the end for Wallace who was eventually executed in London on 23 August 1305. But as we've already said, none of this is really about history: the myth of Wallace has a life of its own that remains hugely influential.
The National Wallace Monument you see today was completed in 1869 after eight years' construction. It stands some 220ft or 67m high, and Abbey Craig adds a further 300ft or 91m, meaning that the top of the monument stands 520ft above the (tidal) River Forth below.
World’s Best Surfers Ignite Aproador to Complete Round 1 of Billabong Rio Pro
APROADOR, Rio de Janeiro/Brazil (Tuesday, May 17, 2011) – After a week of lay-days, the world’s best surfers tore into consistently changing conditions at the lefthand pointbreak of Aproador to complete Round 1 of the Billabong Rio Pro.
Stop No. 3 of 11 on the ASP World Title Series, the opening day of men’s competition saw ASP Dream Tour veterans earn the day’s top scores while defending event winner Jadson Andre (BRA), 21, made an impressive entrance in the Billabong Rio Pro’s opening round.
Kelly Slater (USA), 39, reigning 10-time ASP World Champion, got off to a strong start to open his Billabong Rio Pro campaign. Slater unleashed two furious tail-drifting backhand turns to notch the day’s highest single-wave score of a 9.00 (out of 10) midway through his bout to overtake ASP World Tour rookie Julian Wilson (AUS), 22, and event wildcard Peterson Crisanto (BRA), 18, after nearly missing the start of his heat.
“That 9 felt good,” Slater said. “I went down to grab my jersey and there was some confusion. By the time I got out, the heat had already started and Julian got that first one. It wasn’t a good start. I knew there were going to be some good ones and I just had to be patient. That one good wave actually let me bottom turn and hit the lip, most of the waves were soft and had a lot of horizontals.”
Slater, who finished runner-up at the Billabong Pro last year, was also quick to admit that several goofy-footers will be tough to beat at the lefthander of Aproador and noted that the natural-footers will need to be especially selective in their wave choice at the Billabong Rio Pro.
“A little left like this is going to play well for goofy footers,” Slater said. “Owen (Wright) and Jadson (Andre) are probably frothing on it and licking their chops ready to go. We (natural footers) have been on our frontside at Snapper and Bells and now it’s their turn. We’ve just got to try and be smart. Mick (Fanning) looked good and there are waves out there to do it, you’ve just got to be smart.”
Taj Burrow (AUS), 32, opened his Billabong Rio Pro campaign with a sharp backhand attack by belting two Arpoador lefthanders to the tune of a 16.83 (out of 20) on his first two waves to earn the highest heat-total of the day. The Australian veteran notched his Round 1 heat win over dangerous Brazilian rookie Alejo Muniz (BRA), 21, and event wildcard Ricardo Santos (BRA), 20.
“It was kind of scary for a second there, right when they decided to start the competition the wind started howling, but then it cleaned up heaps,” Burrow said. “I got two fun ones at the start so I’m happy.”
Jadson Andre, defending event winner, reveled in Aproador’s lefthanders with a combination of aggressive carves and snaps to take a convincing Round 1 heat victory with the support of the Brazilian crowd behind him.
“I’m so happy to be here competing in Brazil and I love Aproador, I feel like a local,” Andre said. “I’ve competed here several times before and have friends here. I know everyone says I should feel pressure as defending champion, but I’m not worried about it. I’m just thinking about the next heat. That’s what I did last year.”
Mick Fanning (AUS), 29, two-time ASP World Champion, slowly built momentum in his opening Billabong Rio Pro heat, eventually igniting two lefthanders by combining a series of seamless backhand turns to notch a 15.07 heat total to advance directly through to Round 3.
“It was tricky trying to find the right one out there, but I watched the heat before and noticed that guys that were doing turns back-to-back were getting scores, so I tried to concentrate on that,” Fanning said. “They weren’t the biggest waves, but they just allowed three turns straight away.”
The Australian talent also expressed the importance of advancing directly through to Round 3 with Brazil’s ever-changing conditions.
“It’s really good to skip as many rounds as possible, especially here in Brazil where it can be really unpredictable,” Fanning said. “I’m stoked to get through Round 1 and I’ll go back and assess what’s going on and hopefully keep going.”
Billabong Rio Pro event organizers will reconvene at Aproador at 7am local time tomorrow morning for a possible Round 2 start.

Staff recommends adopting consistent state regulations for Atlantic reef fish and using the process of adopting federal standards under Chapter 120.54(6), Florida Statutes. The proposed rule amendment would allow captain and crew of for-hire vessels to keep recreational bag limits of vermilion snapper, groupers, and golden tilefish in state waters of the Atlantic. Staff also recommends making a technical change to a federal rule reference in this rule. If the Commission approves the proposed rule amendment, it would be advertised and then filed without further public hearing and become effective as soon as possible.
Staff has evaluated the rules under the standards of 68-1.004, FAC, and found them to be in compliance.
TIDE POOLIN'
Leo Carrillo beach in Malibu is consistently one of my favorite places to visit and photograph. I just love climbing around the rocks and investigating the tide pool. There are several ways to get there, but I usually take the 101 North to Malibu Canyon, head south over to Pacific Coast Highway, then West (a right turn) on PCH approximately 25 miles until you hit Leo Carrillo. From the Valley to Leo it's about a 45 minute to hour drive each way. The tide pool is just in front of the #3 lifeguard tower (and incidentally, dogs are allowed on leash from this tower and continuing west up the beach). I just google low tide Malibu to find out the best time to go there and check out the tide pool. Usually there's a several hour window about an hour before to an hour after low tide that's good. If you go after that, the waves usually are just hitting the rocks too hard and it can be dangerous to stand there. I always see tons of starfish (many different colors including orange, light blue, and purple), sea anemones (they are really fun to touch), mussels, crabs (little teeny black ones and bigger red ones), and even little fish swimming in the watery crags and crevices of the tide pool rocks. And I've spotted dolphins and whales from this beach. After an outing at Leo Carrillo, I always stop at this little food shack called Malibu Seafood, located just before you find yourself back at Malibu Canyon. It's totally no frills - you order food inside, wait for your number to be called, and find an open bench to sit down. My fave meals there are swordfish with rice pilaf and salad (the ranch is really good), fish and chips, clam chowder, or a pot of steamed clams in a nice broth.

What innovations are possible to improve the quality and relevance of those programs? What role should governments, employers, universities, and civil society play in shaping the approach to technical education and professional training in Latin America? What can we learn from reforms in the region and abroad? The Dialogue and CAF - Development Bank of Latin America hosted a wide-ranging full-day seminar that brought together academics, policymakers, and other experts from the Western Hemisphere to discuss the future of technical education and professional training in Latin America.
’ve had a few of Tower’s Kaos 60 size pattern planes. They’re quite gentle and fun to fly, but the Tower version consistently comes in around 7.5lb., making it on the heavy side.

I didn’t make any cuts at all regarding weight. I did use all MKS HV69 servos that are very light. I also added a lightweight MKS wing servo to steer the nose wheel. Their design uses layers of lite ply in a few places where we used to use ply or even hardwood block. I think this alone allowed me to shed several ounces.
The plane came in at 6 lb. 11 oz. plus the canopy. So if the canopy is 2 oz. we are still south of 7 lb. I’m happy with that
Been consistent in the gym, taking my vitamin pills, and drinking my protein shake daily. Now if only I can control my eating habits a bit more. Damn you pasta!
All Saints church, Jesus Lane, Cambridge
All Saints church was built for the Church of England in 1864 to the designs of the great George Bodley, perhaps the most consistently brilliant of all 19th century English church architects. It is a high Tractarian temple designed in the Decorated style, and is generally considered to be Bodley's masterpiece. Interior decoration includes the work of William Morris, Edward Burne-Jones, Ford Madox Brown, Charles Kempe and Frederick Leach.
The church was built as a replacement for the old All Saints in Trinity Street, demolished for road-widening. The site of the old church is now a public garden.
For many years the new All Saints was Cambridge's highest Anglo-catholic church, but the congregation gradually dwindled as fashions changed and the population of the parish moved out to the big new housing estates. In 1973, All Saints was declared redundant.
Attempts were made to find a new use, but after three years none had been found. So, in keeping with the redundant churches legislation of the time, All Saints was scheduled for demolition.
There was a national outcry, and at the eleventh hour the church was saved, and vested in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust in 1981. Considerable restoration was needed, and the building was mothballed until the early years of the 21st century, when a massive programme of repairs was carried out, although the church still remained locked.
In 2007, theological students from neighbouring Westcott House began to care for the building, opening it to the public most days and using it for daily liturgies. This was the best time to visit the church, the carefully restored interior and preserved atmosphere were haunting, especially as you could easily be alone inside for half an hour or more.
However, an increasing response from the public, and a renewed interest in and awareness of 19th Century churches, galvanised the CCT. In 2015, a lot of money was spent in turning the church into a somewhat controversial visitors centre, with movement-activated spotlights and voice commentary as you wander around. The first of these makes photography now very difficult, and the second of these is merely very irritating.
The church is currently in use for public worship on Sundays by the evangelically-minded congregation of Holy Trinity, Market Street, while their fine Victorian church is gutted and turned into a modern worship space. One wonders what they make of Bodley's High Church glory.

CI hanno raccontato della furia del terremoto e non ci hanno spiegato che l'Abruzzo, come una parte consistente del Paese, soprattutto nel centro-sud, è seduto su un letto di cemento impastato con sabbia di mare. Imbracato da un'anima di ferro che il sale di quella sabbia si è mangiato con il tempo, rendendolo sottile e fragile come uno stuzzicadenti.
Un portavoce di "Impregilo" (già gruppo Fiat e oggi gruppo Benetton-Gavio-Ligresti) ha spiegato ieri che quella che è oggi tra le principali imprese di costruzione del Paese (è capofila per la costruzione per il ponte sullo stretto di Messina) si aggiudicò è vero nel 1991 la gara per la messa in funzione dell'ospedale San Salvatore dell'Aquila, ma è "estranea alla realizzazione delle opere di cemento armato". Che non fu lei, ma "altri, nei primi anni '80", ad impastare il calcestruzzo di quello che, dall'alba di lunedì, è il simbolo accartocciato della vergogna. Ma, evidentemente, c'è di più del San Salvatore nella catastrofe abruzzese. Racconta oggi Paolo Clemente, ingegnere della task force Enea-Protezione civile al lavoro tra le macerie dell'Aquila, che gli edifici di nuova costruzione - e per "nuova" è da intendersi fino a trent'anni - sono implosi tutti allo stesso modo. Si sono prima "seduti" sulle proprie fondamenta per poi accartocciarsi al suolo sotto il proprio peso. Di più. "Per quello che è stato sin qui possibile vedere attraverso la ricognizione tra le macerie - spiega - il collasso dei piani bassi è stato prodotto dallo schianto dei pilastri in cemento".
Perché? Paolo Buzzetti, presidente dell'Associazione nazionale costruttori edili (Ance), è persona seria. E la mette così. "Se parliamo di sollecitazioni di grado e accelerazione pari a quelle registrate all'Aquila, il cemento armato, se fatto a regola d'arte, deve reggere. Non si discute". Dunque, non è neppure un problema di rispetto di norme antisismiche. È un problema di cemento. Paolo Clemente è d'accordo. "Purtroppo è così - dice - Quel cemento non era di qualità". Incapace di assorbire e disperdere energia, si è sfarinato come pasta frolla non appena investito da una forza di accelerazione che - spiegano gli addetti - è stata, domenica notte, tutt'altro che irresistibile. "Un buon cemento - dice l'ingegnere Alessandro Martelli, responsabile della sezione Prevenzione Rischi Naturali dell'Enea, professore di Scienza delle costruzioni in zona sismica all'università di Ferrara - deve essere in grado di sostenere un carico che oscilli almeno tra i 250 e i 300 chilogrammi per centimetro quadrato. Questa è la regola che dovrebbe valere anche per edifici non proprio recenti. Diciamo dal '70 in poi".
Non è sempre così. Anzi, molto spesso non è così. Qualche nome. Qualche luogo. Nel 2003, dopo il terremoto che nell'anno precedente ha devastato Molise, diverse regioni e comuni italiani sottopongono a verifiche statiche gli edifici scolastici. In Molise, il cemento del liceo "Romita" di Campobasso non regge più di 46 chilogrammi per centimetro quadrato (è sei volte sotto la norma). In Sicilia, a Collesano, nell'entroterra di Cefalù, i pilastri della scuola superiore non vanno oltre i 68 chilogrammi per centimetro quadrato. L'asilo, i 12 chilogrammi per centimetro quadro. Il cemento - ricorda oggi chi condusse l'ispezione - si bucava con la semplice pressione dell'indice. Ciò che restava della sua anima di ferro era uno sfilaccio rugginoso e corroso.Cosa aveva messo in quel cemento chi aveva giocato con le impastatrici e le vite degli altri? E cosa hanno messo in questi anni nel cemento delle nostre case, delle nostre scuole, dei nostri uffici? E quanto ci hanno guadagnato?
Paolo Clemente risponde da ingegnere, con la rassegnazione di chi, purtroppo, sembra sveli un segreto di Pulcinella. "Normalmente, i cattivi costruttori utilizzano sabbia di mare. Costa niente, rispetto alla sabbia da cava. Il problema è che, oltre alle molte impurità, è piena di cloruro di sodio. E quei cloruri, con il tempo, si mangiano il ferro. I margini di guadagno sono alti. Diciamo che fatto 100 il costo della costruzione, chi gioca con la qualità del cemento arriva a guadagnare fino a 50, 60. Chi costruisce a regola d'arte è al 30".
Paolo Buzzetti, mercoledì sarà all'Aquila con una propria commissione tecnica dell'Ance. L'associazione, oltre ad essersi offerta per la ricostruzione della Casa dello Studente, promette un'accelerazione: "Io non amo i processi sommari. Ma deve essere chiaro che non vogliamo difendere tutti. Che chi ha sbagliato, pagherà. Perché per questi signori non c'è spazio nell'Associazione. Chiederemo che venga reintrodotta una figura di controllo che accompagni la costruzione di un edificio dall'inizio alla fine. Evitando che i subappalti, da strumento necessario di duttilità, diventino il ricettacolo di furbizie e illegalità. Ma ci batteremo anche perché il Paese esca dalla logica del ribasso. Quella che spinge molti, pur di stare nel mercato, a costruire a prezzi impossibili. Ad abdicare alla qualità e alla sicurezza".

We will continue our tour Niagara Falls by heading into Canada to take the Hornblower Cruise boat ride and see an informational movie at the IMAX Theater. We will also ascend the Skylon Tower. The tour then departs for Toronto, ON, one of Canada's largest cities. There we will visit the CN Tower and guests will have the option to take a Lake Ontario Cruise. Alfred Sisley, impressionist of the first hour, is dedicated exclusively to the representation of the landscape. Throughout his life, he works outdoors and consistently stays true to his own point of view and manner of design. He is primarily fascinated by the constantly changing nature model and the associated atmospheric mood due to the constant alternation of light and shadow. Sisley's main interest is primarily in the rural setting of Paris with its charming villages and river valleys. Especially the location and surroundings of Moret-sur-Loing with its river banks and bridges are among his favorite motifs.

The presentation "Monet to Picasso. The Batliner Collection"
"Monet to Picasso" provides an informative overview of one of the most exciting chapters in the history of art: the turn from figurative to abstract art.
On the basis of approximately 250 works, the continuous progression from Impressionism to Modernism is clearly depicted. By fortunate interlocking of the Batliner Collection with collections of the Albertina, supplemented by the Forberg Collection, emerged extensive ensembles of works of groundbreaking artists that make it possible to give an overall view about the various "isms" of modern times. The focus of this presentation is the Batliner Collection, which was passed by the Foundation Herbert and Rita Batliner in May 2007 to the Albertina.
The bow of the exhibition begins with the French Impressionism with outstanding late works by Monet ("Water Lily Pond") and Degas ("Two Dancers"), the Post-Impressionism (Toulouse-Lautrec and Cézanne), Fauvism (Matisse) and Neo-Impressionism.
An important step on the way to abstraction represents the Cubism which is represented brilliantly with Braque and Picasso. The surrealism of Ernst, Miró, Klee and Magritte is represented as well as the Russian avant-garde with Lissitzky and Malevich.
The arc concludes with examples of Abstract Expressionism, represented by works by Appel, Rothko and Newman and the New Realism of Yves Klein.
For the first time, a permanent exhibition collection of classical modernism as a unit of paintings and graphics: 2008, the Albertina was extended by 2,000 m2. This offered the possibility of creating a permanent viewing collection of this generous new arrival. This permanent exhibition collection shows mainly the classic modernism of the Batliner Collection, a unique enrichment in its importance and generosity of the museums in the Austrian capital Vienna.

For the first time, masters of classical modernism can now be presented in Vienna. It has always been an aspiration of the Albertina and its director Klaus Albrecht Schröder to represent art from the perspective of the drawing integrally and discipline-crossingly. Graphics and art on canvas can not be seen isolated. Drawings and graphics are not intended as a special event for specialists, but as an art form among others. This concept has been well received by the visitors. Through the holistic presentation of art, the Albertina could reach completely new audiences: in the four years alone since its reopening in 2003, counted the Albertina more than three million visitors, many of them being for the first time in the house.

Der Bogen der Ausstellung setzt an beim französischen Impressionismus mit herausragenden Alterswerken von Monet („Seerosenteich“) und Degas („Zwei Tänzerinnen“), dem Postimpressionismus (Toulouse-Lautrec und Cézanne), Fauvismus (Matisse) und Neo-Impressionismus.

Erstmals können nun in Wien die Meister der klassischen Moderne präsentiert werden. Immer schon war es ein Bestreben der Albertina und ihres Direktors Klaus Albrecht Schröder, Kunst aus dem Blickwinkel der Zeichnung ganzheitlich und gattungsübergreifend darzustellen. Grafik und Kunst auf Leinwand können nicht isoliert betrachtet werden. Zeichnung und Grafik sind nicht als Spezialveranstaltung für Spezialisten gedacht, sondern als eine Kunstform unter anderen. Dieses Konzept wurde auch von den Besucher positiv aufgenommen. Durch die ganzheitliche Präsentation von Kunst konnte die Albertina völlig neue Besucherschichten erreichen: Allein in den vier Jahren seit der Wiedereröffnung 2003 zählte die Albertina über drei Millionen Besucher, viele davon waren zum ersten Mal im Haus.

The Dialogue and CAF - Development Bank of Latin America hosted a wide-ranging full-day seminar that brought together academics, policymakers, and other experts from the Western Hemisphere to discuss the future of technical education and professional training in Latin America.
