This beautiful young lady is an '08 graduate of the school at which I teach. At 7;30 last night, gunfire erupted on her block. She attempted to shield a younger neighbor, but was shot in the head while doing so. She has undergone brain surgery but is still listed in very critical condition.

Napier is the art deco capital of the world, thanks to an earthquake in the 1930s that levelled the city. When it was rebuilt, the city made a consious effort to build in the Art Deco style, which has been maintained and celebrated to this day.
We later saw this car being driven by the "Man about town", a tour guide (I guess) who took tourists around showing them all the cool art deco-y stuff.
This was fun, my mom was watching me.

In some ways, I still somewhat relate this little guy---goofy, shy, brainy, teased mercilessly about his looks, and always destined to be the self-consious alpha dork.
