Lulworth is considered to be one of the most perfectly shaped coves in the World. Its shaped like a Scallop shell. Clays and sands formed the front of the cove which eroded over time allowing the sea to carve out its wonderful shape. The area along the shoreline is formed from Portland Stone, from which cement is made. lots of historic buildings world wide were built from the stone, and it is extremely tough stopping further erosion inward though the cove is widening and the cliffs on the west side are in a dangerous condition. The waves enter the cove radiating out in a circular direction as can be seen in the photo and its this that creates the perfectly symmetrical shape.

It is part of the Jurassic coast and is a World heritage site visited by over a half a million people each year.

I loved the place as it was a real working harbour with proper fishing boats and fishermen mending their nets and getting their boats ready for the morning. The little town is totally unspoiled and I found it charming!

Most photos of Lulworth show the complete shell shape of the cove but they have all been taken from the air as its impossible to view it in its entirety, any other way.

I suppose this photo is a bit more unusual as its not the normal touristy snap which Im not a fan of. I did have to post process it quite a bit as the light was almost gone. Its the best I could do and Ill just leave it as it is.

Its a great place to visit so do go there! Ill certainly be back next year and you could meet me.

I hope you may like my effort and I welcome your input etc.

Hope your week ahead is as special as you are to Flickr.

Thank you,

Pat.

Sirocco is a warm wind from the southeast. In the maps, the wind rose was positioned within the Mediterranean and specifically between the Ionian Sea and the island of Malta. Thus the wind that came from the North-East came from Greece and took the name of Grecale. the libeccio wind from Libya. The one that came from the South-East came from Syria and took the name of Scirocco. According to some Sicilian popular beliefs, this wind was considered a harbinger of misfortune and disease. These beliefs had their roots in the distant past, when North Africa was the permanent site of outbreaks of endemic infectious diseases whose germs were transported to southern Italy by mosquitoes and midges, bad flyers but very skilled in exploiting the Sirocco air currents .

As recently as the 1940s, this graceful hawk was considered rare and endangered in North America, restricted to a few sites in California and Texas. In recent decades, it has increased greatly in numbers and spread into many new areas.

The Eurasian Eagle-owl is considered to be one of the largest owls in the world, with a wingspan of nearly two metres. These giant birds weighs between 1.5kg – 4kg and have an impressive wingspan of 155-180cm.

There are thought to be 12-40 pairs of eagle owls nesting in Britain, but no one is certain how many of these have escaped from captivity and how many have naturally immigrated here from Europe. For centuries eagle owls were used as decoys to catch birds such as the magpie. This magnificent bird is captive bred.

Brown Hare - Lepus europaeus

Norfolk

The brown hare is known for its long, black-tipped ears and fast running - it can reach speeds of 45mph when evading predators. It prefers a mosaic of farmland and woodland habitats and can often be spotted in fields.

Thought to have been introduced into the UK in Roman Times (or even earlier), the brown hare is now considered naturalised. It is most common in grassland habitats and at woodland edges, favouring a mosaic of arable fields, grasses and hedgerows. It grazes on vegetation and the bark of young trees and bushes. Brown hares do not dig burrows, but shelter in 'forms', which are shallow depressions in the ground or grass; when disturbed, they can be seen bounding across the fields, using their powerful hind legs to propel them forwards, often in a zigzag pattern. Brown hares are at their most visible in early spring when the breeding season encourages fighting or 'boxing'. Females can produce three to four litters of two to four young (known as leverets) a year.

Lily legends - many stories, myths and legends have been composed about these beautiful flowers. Since ancient times, people have worshiped the lily as one of the most beautiful creatures on earth. Even the wish for well-being sounded like this: "May your path be strewn with roses and lilies." A symbol of hope in Ancient Greece, peace and purity in Rus', and in France these flowers meant mercy, compassion and justice.

The rose is rightfully called the queen of the flower world, since ancient times it has become an object of reverence and admiration.

The flower was already known in ancient Egypt. During the meeting of Cleopatra and the commander Mark Antony, the floors of the hall in her palace were covered with a layer of rose petals almost half a meter thick. In ancient Greece, this flower was considered a gift from the gods. And it was the rose petals that enveloped the beautiful Aphrodite emerging from the sea. The Olympian gods, being in admiration, sprinkled their nectar on the flower, and since then the rose has received its pleasant smell.

Little Round Top is the smaller of two rocky hills south of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania—the companion to the adjacent, taller hill named Big Round Top. It was the site of an unsuccessful assault by Confederate troops against the Union left flank on July 2, 1863, the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg.

Considered by some historians to be the key point in the Union Army's defensive line that day, Little Round Top was defended successfully by the brigade of Col. Strong Vincent. The 20th Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment, commanded by Col. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, fought the most famous engagement there, culminating in a dramatic downhill bayonet charge that is one of the most well-known actions at Gettysburg and in the American Civil War.

The Cristal peak is the sixth highest peak in Brazil, with 2,769.05 meters of altitude, according to the measurement made by the IBGE and the Military Institute of Engineering, through the Pontos Culminantes do Brasil Project, and revised by the IBGE through a new mapping of the geoid of the Brazilian territory in 2016.

It is located in the Serra do Caparaó, within the Caparaó National Park, in the municipality of Alto Caparaó, State of Minas Gerais, at 20º 26' 37" south latitude and 41º 48' 42" west longitude. A measurement on Google Earth shows the border of Espírito Santo just 930 meters east of Pico do Cristal, and Pico da Bandeira, the third highest mountain in Brazil and the highest in the Southeast Region, at 1,940 meters to the northeast. The two peaks are visible from each other.

Pico do Cristal is the highest mountain located entirely within the territory of Minas Gerais, as the other highest peaks in the state are on the border with Espírito Santo (Pico da Bandeira), São Paulo (Pedra da Mina) or Rio de Janeiro. January (Agulhas Negras peak).

Until recently, the peak of Cristal was considered the fourth highest mountain in Brazil, with 2,798 meters. Later, another measurement pointed to the summit of the peak at 2,780 meters. More recently, within the scope of the Pontos Culminantes do Brasil Project, where more precise technology was used, the IBGE confirmed the summit of the peak at 2,769.76 meters, which places Pico do Cristal as the sixth highest mountain in the country. In 2016, the IBGE revised the altitudes of the highest points in Brazil, based on the geoid mapping of the Brazilian territory, and confirmed the altitude of Pico do Cristal as being 2,769.05 meters.

The peak of Cristal is a massive point that has this denomination due to its abundant rock formations of quartz, in which it presents landscapes of extreme beauty, being considered by some the most impressive place than the peak of the Flag, where the vegetation is formed basically by bromeliads and lilies on rocky outcrops, the site being part of the highest altitude zone of the park.

For those departing from the Tronqueira campsite, in Minas Gerais, the trail goes up towards Pico da Bandeira, where, close to this, you head south to Pico do Calçado and then west.

For those coming from the Casa Queimada side, you can reach Pico do Cristal by going up the trail to Pico da Bandeira and heading east before climbing Pico do Calçado. From its summit, it is possible to see the imposing Pico da Bandeira, with its characteristic abyss on the Espírito Santo side and softer slopes on the Minas Gerais side.

** More roof top’s this time though its a small village in Provence that sits in the Alpilles mountains

Les Baux-de-Provence is a settlement in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in Provence . The village is considered one of the most beautiful in France .It is located in the Alpilles mountains, atop a rocky outcrop that is crowned with a ruined castle overlooking the plains to the south. Its name refers to its site: in Provençal, bauç is a rocky spur. From the village name the word bauxite was coined for aluminium ore when first discovered there by geologist Pierre Berthier in 1821.

Although it is not high the Alpilles range stands out impressively, as it rises abruptly from the Rhône valley and from the very flat alluvial plain of Crau. The range is about 25 km long by about 8 to 10 km wide, running in an east-west direction between the Rhône and Durance rivers. The landscape of the Alpilles is one of arid limestone peaks separated by dry valleys.

Once considered a sub-species of the Chiffchaff the Siberian Chiffchaff is now considered a separate species. The bird is considered rare in the UK but it is believed that it is probably more common than is reported due to the difficulty of establishing the birds identity from the now common wintering Chiffchaff, especially in the South West.

Abu Simbel is a historic site comprising two massive rock cut temples in the village of Abu Simbel أبو سمبل, Aswan Governorate, Upper Egypt, near the border with Sudan. It is situated on the western bank of Lake Nasser, about 230 km (140 mi) southwest of Aswan (about 300 km (190 mi) by road). The twin temples were originally carved out of the mountainside in the 13th century BC, during the 19th Dynasty reign of the Pharaoh Ramesses II. They serve as a lasting monument to the king Ramesses II. His wife Nefatari and children can be seen in smaller figures by his feet, considered to be of lesser importance and were not given the same position of scale. This commemorates his victory at the Battle of Kadesh. Their huge external rock relief figures have become iconic.

the river Somme was for centuries considered a strategic route for navigation inland to Picardy and Paris, potentially faster and more reliable than the Seine, particularly for trade with England. The first comprehensive plan for canalisation was produced in 1729. The meandering river was not easily tamed, however, and the Intendant of Picardy reporting in 1763 found the navigation to be in a ‘pitiful state’. Complete canalisation was authorised under Louis XVI in 1785, but works were interrupted by the Revolution. The project revived by Napoleon in 1810 included a ‘ship canal’ (canal maritime) between Saint-Valery-sur-Somme and Abbeville. The waterway was opened to navigation above Abbeville in 1827, while the ship canal was completed in 1835. Locks were 34 m by 6.25 m wide, later enlarged to Freycinet dimensions. The two locks on the section incorporated in the Canal du Nord were rebuilt in 1964 to the dimensions adopted for that project, 90 by 6 m. The canal was among the first to be conceded to a local authority, in this case the Somme département, in 1992, but the concession was limited to the section west of Péronne.

I considered not posting this, due to the position of the fish in the frame. But the splash pattern so reminds me of cartoon drawings of the character being shocked or worried, with sweat spreading from the character's head. I suspect that this is a young egret, still learning the finer nuances of keeping a fish, as I saw this one lose at least two other fish in its endeavors!

Construction of the castle-abbey of Loarre began in the 11th century by order of Sancho III of Navarre. It was located on a promontory located about 27 km from the capital of Huesca as a way to control the southern plain, which was then in the hands of the Muslims and wanted to be reconquered by the Christians.

Built in Romanesque style, it is considered the best preserved in Europe within that architectural style. With the rank of National Monument, its declaration as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO is currently being processed.

As an anecdote, it is worth mentioning that some films have been shot there, the most famous being Kingdom of Heaven (2005), directed by Ridley Scott.

Hepatic Tanager is the most widely distributed Piranga tanager, ranging from the southwest United States south to northern Argentina. Its English name is based on the liver-red color of the adult male from the northern part of the species' range; however, its scientific name, flava, meaning "yellow," derives from the original description, which is based on a female from Paraguay. These names reflect both a characteristic of the genus Piranga, marked sexual dichromatism, and the broad range of coloration, habitat, and behavior encompassed within the Hepatic Tanager as currently recognized.

Even though the Hepatic Tanager is currently considered one species, much evidence, including a recent study of molecular genetics, indicates that up to 3 species could be recognized, corresponding to the 3 groups of subspecies combined long ago. These groups and their respective species names are the Hepatic Tanager (P. hepatica) of montane pine-oak forests from the southwestern United States to Nicaragua, the Tooth-billed Tanager (P. lutea) of forest edges in foothills and mountains from Costa Rica to northern and western South America, and the Red Tanager (P. flava) of open woodlands of eastern and southeastern South America.

I found it extremely idyllic and one of the most picturesque spots in Edinburgh.

Sagrada Familia, is considered a major achievement for its designer, the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. Sagrada Família basilica has a status, not a cathedral, as is sometimes believed.

The construction of the church was begun in 1882. Initially the project was commissioned another architect, but this came into conflict with the association of funding the construction of the temple. Then the building was commissioned by Gaudí, which completely changed the design, giving it its own style. Over the next four decades he worked intensively on the design, giving it a completely last 15 years of age. During the work, continually adapted and changed the original design.

Towers of the church was completed in 1920, six years later, the architect came up with the passing omnibus. He died not recognized in a shelter for the poor.

November 7, 2010 on Sunday during a solemn Mass, which was attended by 62 thousand. people, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the Basilica of the Holy Family (Sagrada Familia), raising it to the rank of Minor Basilica.

Completion of construction scheduled for 2026, the 100th anniversary of Gaudi's death.

Podczas prac nieustannie dostosowywał i zmieniał pierwotne założenia. Wieże kościoła ukończono w 1920 r. Sześć lat później architekt wpadł pod przejeżdżający omnibus. Zmarł nie rozpoznany w przytułku dla biedaków.

7 listopada 2010 w niedzielę podczas uroczystej mszy świętej, w której uczestniczyło 62 tys. osób, papież Benedykt XVI konsekrował Bazylikę Świętej Rodziny (Sagrada Familia) podnosząc ją do godności bazyliki mniejszej.

Zakończenie budowy przewidziano na rok 2026, 100 lecie śmierci Gaudiego.

Considered Vulnerable by BirdLife International and only easily distinguished from the closely related and formerly conspecific Chestnut-backed Tanager (Tangara preciosa) by the black back, this species is generally poorly known, although it seems to be one the of the few tanagers to perform seasonal migrations. The species’ overall range stretches from Espírito Santo south to Rio Grande do Sul, in southeast Brazil, although there is only one definite record from the last-named state. It is largely restricted to coastal sand-plain forest and littoral scrub, and the species also visits gardens and orchards. Seasonal displacements occur in Rio de Janeiro, where its arrival coincides with the ripening of certain fruits, and the Black-backed Tanager is also more common in São Paulo during the austral winter, which season has produced all of the available records in Espírito Santo. This one was photographed in São Paulo.

It has been considered to form a superspecies complex along with the rock partridge, Philby's partridge and Przevalski's partridge and treated in the past as conspecific particularly with the first. This partridge has well marked black and white bars on the flanks and a black band running from the forehead across the eye and running down the head to form a necklace that encloses a white throat. Native to Asia, the species has been introduced into many other places and feral populations have established themselves in parts of North America and New Zealand. This bird can be found in parts of the Middle East and temperate Asia.

Oryx is a genus consisting of four large antelope species. Three of them are native to arid parts of Africa, and the fourth to the Arabian Peninsula. Their fur is pale with contrasting dark markings in the face and on the legs, and their long horns are almost straight.

The East African oryx (Oryx beisa) inhabits eastern Africa, and the closely related gemsbok (Oryx gazella) inhabits southern Africa. Neither is threatened, though the former is considered Near Threatened by the IUCN. The gemsbok is monotypic, and the East African oryx has two subspecies; East African oryx "proper" (O. b. beisa) and the fringe-eared oryx (O. b. callotis). In the past, both were considered subspecies of the gemsbok. – Wikipedia

* I'm grateful for visit, favs and comments of my photo.

The photo is taken at the port of Thessaloniki, Greece.

It is considered the gateway Port to the Balkans and South East Europe.

I think the word "Alone" has been touched on over and over in this series of photos, however it needs it's own space because it may be the hardest of all the pills to swallow. It's one thing to go through a situation where you've lost everything, but to go through it by yourself is by far the worst feeling in the world. Often times what separates those who make it back on their feet, to those who never recover, is one simple thing. Support.

We're all different people, and everyone who falls has their own reasons for falling. One thing we all have in common though is that any single one of our individual falls can be broken up by another person choosing to get involved. What hurts more than anything in the world is falling, and seeing everyone you ever considered a friend just watching. No one offering to help, no one trying to prevent or even slow your decent, just watching, pitying, and coldly turning the other cheek. There's no feeling lonelier in the world than knowing in your time of need, when it's finally YOU who needs help, that everyone, even the ones you helped at points when you stood tall and they needed a hand, will just let you fall.

If you know someone who is struggling, no matter what that struggle is, let them know you see them. If you care about them, let them know. You might be the reason they recover, you might be all they needed, but you'll never know unless you try.

Thanks for the group cover! -

Another shot from a great opportunity yesterday.

For my contacts not familiar with this Owl species, I added the information below taken from Wikipedia.

The Northern hawk-owl (Surnia ulula) is a medium sized true owl of the northern latitudes. It is non-migratory and usually stays within its breeding range, though it sometimes irrupts southward. It is one of the few owls that is neither nocturnal nor crepuscular, being active only during the day.

The Northern hawk-owl has been said to resemble a hawk in appearance and in behavior. In North America, its appearance in flight is often considered similar to a Cooper's hawk (Accipiter cooperii). It has been suggested that this may be because the hawk- owl may partially fill an important diurnal niche similar to that of day hunters such as hawks.

I considered a while, if I should post a coloured or a monochrom version of this photograph of mt. Raubschloss in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Here You can see, how I finally decided. To compensate that, I created another perspective with colours. I'm going to show this one on another day.

When I arrived up here on that morning, it was still quite dark and the rock was hardly to see. But what I saw, were the headlights of two photographers facing me. When You zoom into the frame, You can see them right on top of the rock.

We made light signs to welcome each other and were happy (I was definitely really happy like a child) about the reactions from the other side.

A really cool experience, what will for ever be connected with this photograph.
