"If you go off into a far, far forest and get very quiet, you'll come to understand that you're connected with everything."

Streator was an important interchange location between Santa Fe and Conrail (New York Central/Penn Central earlier) with run-through trains operating after a connecting track was constructed by 1968. Conrail power and cabooses could be seen on the Santa Fe, as well as the Santa Fe’s equipment on Conrail, as seen here. In April 1984, on Conrail’s passing siding just southeast of Streator, Illinois, an eastbound freight led by GP39-2 No. 3695 passes by westbound train trailed with Santa Fe caboose 999250.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend of photography my Flickr friends. Stay safe and keep the shutters clicking.
After the storms left the city, a magnificent rainbow appeared over the downtown cityscape of the Western Auto Building to Union Station and all the way to the Liberty Memorial.
A very old lady looked in the mirror one morning. She had three remaining hairs on her head, and being a positive soul, she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today." So she braided her three hairs, and she had a great day.
Some days later, looking in the mirror one morning, preparing for her day, she saw that she had only two hairs remaining. "Hmm, two hairs... I fancy a centre parting today." She duly parted her two hairs, and as ever, she had a great day.
A week or so later, she saw that she had just one hair left on her head. "One hair huh...," she mused, "I know, a pony-tail will be perfect." And again she had a great day.
The next morning she looked in the mirror. She was completely bald.
"Finally bald huh," she said to herself, "How wonderful! I won't have to waste time doing my hair any more.."

Why are there so many songs about rainbows and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they're wrong wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
Who said that wishes would be heard and answered when wished on the morningstar?
Someone thought of that and someone believed it.
Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing and what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
All of us under its spell.
We know that it's probably magic
Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors.
The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it.
It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me.

MAYBE IT'S NOT ABOUT THE LENGTH OF TIME YOU HAVE KNOWN SOMEONE, MAYBE IT IS ABOUT INSTANT RECOGNITION ON AN UNCONSCIOUS LEVEL, THAT OUR SOULS KNOW EACH OTHER.

Colour re-edit of a black and white image originally captured in January 2020. Just about to break into a smile here and I love it when I can make someone's day with a photograph. Enjoy!
The city of Ghent in Belgium is alive with festivities during the festive season. If you look up, the festivities disappear and you're back in the city, in touch with reality.
A l'occasion des fêtes de fin d’année, à Gand en Belgique, la ville est très animée par de nombreuses fêtes. Si on lève la tête, la fête disparait et on retrouve la ville quotidienne connectée à sa réalité.
A connection between a human being and Mother Nature can emerge suddenly or develop gradually - and it is such an amazing feeling... Of course it is most likely to happen in places of great natural beauty, like this one... as long as other people around keep quiet.

Now swinging off the P&H Branch, the 212 continues to Croxton via the Marion Connection in Jersey City with ES44AC 8103 leading.
Taking the Diverging Clear off NS’s Appalachia District at Big Stone Gap back to the home rails of their Cumberland Valley Subdivision, C090’s lite motors will take the connection down toward Cadet Yard to combine with southbound rock train W094 for another grueling trip to Kingsport.
The connection here at Big Stone was put into service on February 5, 1986 by the Seaboard System to expedite coal traffic from the Harlan Coalfields to the Clinchfield and points south by utilizing trackage rights over Norfolk Southern’s Appalachia District to Frisco.

Where there's a music should be comin' out of every car
There is a silence all over downtown
Where community celebrations shall be aroused
I walk the sterile gardens, life is on pause, here it is
No can do this, no can do that
What the hell can you do, my friend?
In this place that you call your town
I guess you can't expect much from the hometown
Well I don't know if you can even call it your own
When they don't want you to get near excitement
And in protest of that you just stay home, here it is now
No can do this, no can do that
What the hell can you do, my friend?
In this place that you call your town
On intersection of all dimensions
Where I was stoppin' by just for a drink
I meet a brother from tribal connection
And together we began to sing
We gonna turn frustration into inspiration
Whatever demons are there, we gonna set them free
Such is the method of tribal connection
Of our fun loving restless breed
I wanna walk this Earth like it is mine
And so is everyone in our fun lovin' tribe
C'mon man, is that real so much to ask?
From all these goddamn Nazi-fuedals
But I'm gonna take it to community
'Cause I want everyone to see
There never was any conspiracy
And we are all here simply to sing
No can do this, no can do that
What the hell can you do, my friend?
In this place that you call your town
Where there's a music should be comin' out of every car
There is a silence all over downtown
Only the intersection semi-alive
Outskirts are sedated, me gone

A song from before the time of Covid, from a band that got it's start in my old stomping grounds, a place they called Alphabet Land, the east village of Manhattan.
