I can see a folded market umbrella under there too, for extra shade. i reckon that little white thingy on top of the fence is a mini solar panel for something - lighting perhaps.

Oheka Castle, also known as the Otto Kahn Estate, is located on the North Shore of Long Island, in Huntington, New York. It was the country home of investment financier and philanthropist Otto Hermann Kahn and his family. The name Oheka is an acronym of its original owner's name Otto Hermann Kahn, which Kahn also used to name his yacht Oheka II and his ocean-front Villa Oheka in Palm Beach, Florida. The mansion was built by Kahn between 1914 and 1919, and is the second largest private home in the United States, comprising 127 rooms and over 109,000 square feet (10,100 m2), as originally configured.
The castle is currently a historic hotel with 32 guest rooms and suites on the upper floors of the mansion, a popular wedding venue for socialites, celebrities, and dignitaries, and the backdrop to many photo shoots and Hollywood films. The estate also offers tours of the estate and gardens.
In 2004, Oheka was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Oheka Castle is a member of Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

I enjoy photographing the City of London office building at 1 Coleman St as the facetted facade always looks different whatever the weather conditions. For example, when I took this it was overcast so contrast is reduced and the colours are more muted.

From the RIBA website : "One Coleman Street is a new 235,000 sq ft office building for Legal and General in the City of London completed in 2007. The scheme set out to unite the disparate urban context of the eastern end of London Wall and Coleman Street by re-establishing its street wall, and through the creation of a new garden on the southern side.
The facade utilises polished pre-cast concrete cladding panels configured in a geometric arrangement expressed through a series of interlocking and alternating triangulated surfaces. The fenestration is set at an angle, creating a robustly modelled surface running around the curvature of the building. The directional geometry with alternate floors arranged in the opposite direction is resolved by the triangulation of the spandrel."

Just flew in a couple of weeks ago from Baltimore to set up shop for the summer here in London Ontario. My but we are so glad to see you two beauties.To the right is a Baltimore Oriole nest configured to summer nesting standards. Amazing the work that is but into this nursery as a variety of gathered odds and ends were skillfully constructed to withstand the wind and rain.This nest is actually only about 40 yards from where the shot of the two Baltimore Orioles was taken though the two Orioles look to be both Male so am figuring it is not their nest.
Pushing on that trigger is like pulling magic into my very soul...Darrell.

Let's continue with the trains from my brief but productive morning along the legendary former Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad. I've already shared a shot from Neabsco and trains 1, 2 and 8 that I shot here crossing Powells Creek at MP 84.7 on modern day CSXT's exceptionally busy RF&P sub.
Here is the third train we lensed here, and probably my favorite shot of the nine. This is CSXT train I032 a high priority intermodal running from Jacksonville, FL to North Bergen, NJ. The 1x1 DPU configured train is solid single stacks and TOFC due to the clearance restriction in Baltimore's Howard Street tunnel.

Emerging from the Lincolnshire mist, Freightliner 'Shed' 66506 cuts an ominous presence as it climbs the last few yards of the 1:264 grade approaching Market Rasen station.
The train is unidentified but almost certainly a coal empties from one of the Trent Valley power stations destined for Immingham Docks and a fresh load of the black stuff.
Another shot that never made the cut at the time, although I did share a view of the train taken much closer in with a very different composition. While going through the collection deleting images that hadn't been (and were unlikely to be) used, I thought this one had enough about it to merit a run out - I quite like the mood it conveys.

The weather here is shocking at the moment. I had about 15 minutes to take these photos last night before it started to rain again. Unfortunately I couldn't do any sunrise shots this morning because it was raining. Apparently the oil slick has spread too so the beach is probably closed anyway.

Bought by LAC in 2001 and configures for pax use, which sadly never materialized (planned in cooperation with AeroSur). Now for sale (2020).

A westbound commuter train led by a classic B&O torpedo-tube GP9 is seen at Randolph Rd crossing, west of Garrett Park in the summer of 1974. The crossing looks rather diminutive compared to this scene today, but for 1974 standards everything looks fairly substantial. When the Metropolitan Sub was re-signaled and configured for 261 running, Randolph Rd also gained a set of intermediate signals immediately east of the crossing. Today, the signal is westbound-only. Randolph Road crossing also serves the distinction as being the first place I iced a pedestrian as an engineer. They don't call this spot "Suicide Alley" for nothing! Il se rend à terre par obligation pour la reproduction. Les colonies de ce procellariidé sont hébergées dans les falaises maritimes (côtières ou insulaires) comme en Bretagne ou en Normandie. La France constitue la limite sud de l'aire de répartition de ce pélagique septentrional. Son aire de distribution couvre une vaste partie de l'hémisphère nord jusqu'au Groenland et au Spitzberg. Première nidification en France: en 1960 aux Sept-Îles.
Le fulmar est une merveille de la nature d'adaptation au milieu aérien. Les ailes sont configurées de telle façon qu'elles font de lui un voilier supportant les pires conditions météorologiques. Les ailes sont longues et étroites ; ainsi l'oiseau dispose d'une souplesse et d'une force appréciables dans ses mouvements. C'est un grand adepte du vol plané. Il vole au ras des vagues.
Cette espèce pélagique consomme des poissons, du plancton, des céphalopodes (calmars, seiches...), des crustacés, des déchets de poissons.
Les fulmars boréaux nichent en colonies sur les corniches et dans les anfractuosités des falaises côtières.
L'unique œuf de l'unique ponte (caractéristique constante chez les procellariidés) est déposé par la femelle à même la roche. L'incubation est conduite alternativement par les 2 partenaires pendant 52 à 53 jours. Les poussins sont de "grosses boules" de duvet blanc. Ils sont nourris à partir d'un liquide huileux nourrissant secrété par les parents. Les jeunes prennent leur envol au bout d'environ 7 semaines. La première nidification intervient tardivement : au bout 9 ans en moyenne. La reproduction est la seule phase biologique terrestre du procellariidé.

The Kalendarplatz is configured as a complex sundial that displays times, months, equinoxes, winter and the summer solstice. The shadow of the 14-metre-high »gnomon« installed in the middle of the square functions as a clock hand, while the elaborate metal inlays on the floor of the square symbolise the times, time periods and planets.

A day of puffy clouds weeks ago. (Today we have only grey until late afternoon when the sun may shine.) The foreground house was built in the 19thC. ; then moved to this location about a century ago. Now configured as 4 apartments and surrounded by later structures.
Nott Memorial was begun in 1850
First used as a campus museum.
The Nott Memorial is an elaborate 16-sided stone-masonry building which serves as both architectural and physical centerpiece of Union College in Schenectady, New York. Dedicated to Eliphalet Nott, president of Union for a remarkable sixty-two years (1804–1866), the 110-foot (34 m) high by 89-foot (27 m) wide structure is a National Historic Landmark.
Officially designated Nott Memorial Hall but referred to by generations of students and faculty simply as "The Nott" or "The Nipple" (sometimes "The Nipple of Knowledge"), the building's centrality and initial design trace back to Josef Ramee's 1813 conception of the school grounds, the first planned college campus in the United States.
The Memorial was designed by Edward Tuckerman Potter, architect of area churches and homes, alumnus of the college, and grandson of President Nott. Construction began in 1858 and was completed in 1879. The result is one of very few 16-sided buildings in the world.
For nearly a century the Nott was mostly open inside. In 1961 the college moved its bookstore into the basement and configured the first two floors into theater in the round. The upper floors were eventually closed off and fell into disrepair.
In 1993 the college began a complete renovation of the Nott, restoring it to its original design. The award-winning project was undertaken by noted Boston based architecture firm Finegold Alexander + Associates Inc and carried out by A.J. Martini, Inc., contractors.[3] The bookstore and theater were moved to other locations on the campus, and in 1995 the Nott reopened on the celebration of Union's 200th anniversary.

Red Gold by Viktor Mitic: Mitic’s sculptures were inspired by the patterns of colourful paint drippings he noticed on his studio floor. From there I stretch and pull in 3D rendering to create each element. There is no way of knowing the final semblance during the making of these works but as he begins, relationships begin to appear as he stacks and combines to configure the overall form.

French 'boutique airline' La Compagnie spent a brief period linking Luton with New York. The jet was configured in a 74-seat all-Business Class layout. This airframe was originally delivered to Britannia as G-BYAT, meaning it is no stranger to the blue Thomson Airways hangar in the background.

The power is turned on. None of these poles are configured the same. Maybe the power company uses these four poles for training. The rookie lineman has to explain why four poles, within 30 feet of each other, are all different. Also, where does the power go, since this is rural land with only a couple of farms nearby. Lastly, he has to pick which one is turned on. That is the final test. Hopefully he can do that without touching the live wires. Or as they say in the electrical business ... ZAP!
These brick round 45° elbow parts are so cool to play with. The different ways you can configure them and the tactile joy they give in hand is ace. 10/10 would recommend.

Na dzień publikacji zdjęcia jednoczłonowe egzemplarze tego typu nadal pozostają w eksploatacji.

The original two-section “Luganka” (Russian: "Луганка") locomotive, road number 2TЭ10Л-1250 (sections A and B), is hauling a mixed train from Ocniţa station to Brătușeni station.
On the day the photograph was taken, this was the world’s last operational, originally configured two-section “Luganka”, remaining in regular service with any operator—both in freight and passenger traffic.
As of the date the photo was published, single-section units of this type remain in service.

Bodnath (Népal) - Le fichier original pris en jpeg accusait une importante dominante orangée. Je débutais en numérique. Je venais de faire l'acquisition de mon Nikon la veille de mon voyage. Mes réglages étaient très mal paramètrés. Quant au capteur du D80, il encaissait très mal les lumières difficiles, notamment les contre-jours.
J'ai quand même pu récupérer ce qui était possible en post-production, sans parvenir à un résultat pleinement satisfaisant d'un point de vue technique. En revanche, j'aime bien ce double-portrait de ces deux jeunes filles installées sur le stupa de Botnath après la pluie.
Bodnath (Nepal) - The original file taken as jpeg had a strong orange cast. I was new to digital. I had just purchased my Nikon the day before my trip. My settings were very poorly configured. As for the sensor of the D80, it coped very badly with difficult lights, especially backlighting.
I was still able to recover what was possible in post-production, without achieving a fully satisfactory result from a technical point of view. On the other hand, I like this double portrait of these two young girls installed on the stupa of Botnath after the rain.
Kompng Chhnang (Cambodge) - Le village flottant n’est pas qu’un lieu de résidence. Si de nombreux habitants ont un petit boulot en ville, ils sont pêcheurs pour la plupart. De sorte que des ateliers de préparation du poisson sont installés sur des pontons flottants. Cette activité est prioritairement réservée aux femmes qui travaillent en famille avec le renfort de quelques voisines en période de forte activité.
Précision : Je viens de changer d'ordinateur et il n'est pas encore configuré comme je le souhaite. L'écran notamment n'est pas encore étalonné. Tout sera rentré dans l'ordre dans quelque jours.

It's Sunday morning and DB Cargo 'Shed' unit 66032 is captured running 'Dead-in-Tow' at the back-end of the 8.00am Elephant and Castle - Hoo Junction Up Yard engineering train (6N31), as it passes Tonbridge station.
No doubt returning from an overnight possession in the London area, sister unit 66023 is out of sight at the front-end doing the hard work.

1939 Alfa Romeo 6C SS 2500 Race prepared Superleggera (super light) Coupe' by Touring of Milan.
This is the last of five racing Alfa Romeo 6Cs fitted with Alfa’s most powerful 120bhp Tipo 256 racing engine which were built in 1939 under the direction of Enzo Ferrari, who had directed Alfa Romeo racing for years (you will see the Ferrari 'prancing horse' on racing Alfas throughout the 30s), It’s a racecar underneath. It’s configured inside for the 1940 Mille Miglia, so its got all the racing gear; engine, suspension and it has a Lusso body. Its also the first or second Alfa in the world to have a radio in it. From an era where you could buy a car, drive it off the lot, straight to the track, with expectation of serious possibility of winning (depending on your driving skills (craziness helped).
First built with a Super Sport Spyder Corsa body for amateur driver Gian Moria Cornaggia Medici, this Alfa placed in eight races in 1939 as well as the Mille Miglia in 1940. In 1941 it was sold to its second owner, race car driver Guseppa Guidiri di Pietro Giorgio. Not overly enamored with the car’s performance, he commissioned a new lightweight body from Touring of Milan and the two year old open racing car became a road going coupe. This car had ten Italian owners before its current owner, David B. Smith of Medina, Washington, bought it in 2012 and he has now restored it to its 1941 Touring Coupe configuration in its original color.
Alfa Romeo had been taken over by the Italian government in 1933, and in coming years the company concentrated on aircraft engines and military supplies for the disastrous war in Africa, trying to colonize Ethiopia.
We forget that ALFA built trucks, buses and even limos in the pre-war days. The six-cylinder engines grew gradually through the 1930s but retained their outstanding power-to-weight ratio and reputation for durability, being very successful in competition.

Castillo, Berlanga de Duero, Soria, Castilla y León, España.
El castillo de Berlanga de Duero se encuentra en la población del mismo nombre, pertenece a la provincia de Soria y fue construido entre los siglos XV, cuando tuvo la función de castillo señorial, y en el XVI cuando se transformó en una fortaleza artillera. Con anterioridad, en los siglos X y XI, hubo una fortaleza musulmana que, en el XII, tras la conquista castellana, se amplió con el cinturón exterior amurallado que se conserva.
Bordeada por el río Escalote y abrazada por el Duero, se corona por la imponente silueta del castillo que la vigila desde el Coborrón. El conjunto monumental está formado por los restos de la fortaleza tardomedieval (siglo XV), la fortaleza artillera de época renacentista (siglo XVI), la muralla que ciñe el cerro en su base (siglo XII) y el Palacio de los Duques de Frías (siglo XVI).
El conjunto se inició entre los años 1460 y 1480 por encargo de D. Luis Tovar y doña María de Guzmán, que ordenaronn levantar el casillo señorial, para servir de fortaleza defensiva y residencia familiar, sobre un castillo anterior situado en lo alto del cerro, donde se localizaba la primitiva villa de Berlanga protegida por la muralla situada a los pies del cerro.
En el año 1512 se proyectó y comenzó a ejecutar el nuevo castillo, configurado como una fortaleza artillera, con fines militares. Esta nueva fortaleza se adaptó tanto a la topografía abrupta del terreno como a la construcción anterior (el castillo medieval señorial).
En el programa constructivo de los linajes Tovar y de los Duques de Frías se encontraba además la erección del palacio en el recinto interior de la muralla del siglo XII, adaptado a los nuevos modos de vida. Este palacio y sus jardines intramuros estructurados en diversos niveles sufrieron, en 1811, un incendio y una destrucción por parte de las tropas napoleónicas, por lo que en la actualidad solo se conserva su fachada principal.
Durante los años 2004-2005 se acometió por parte de la Junta de Castilla y León un Plan Director, un conjunto de planes y actuaciones orientadas a la mejor conservación, protección y revitalización de este rico patrimonio. Se incluyen estudios de investigación, consolidación y restauración de los restos del monumento o actuaciones en el entorno.
El castillo señorial (siglo XV) presenta planta rectangular, en la que destaca el cubo de planta circular, en el ángulo sur, y la torre del homenaje en el lado opuesto. En el interior, dos patios articulan el espacio: uno, a la entrada, más sencillo, funcionó como patio de armas; y el otro, se planteó como patio palacial porticado, con columnas góticas, tiene en el centro un aljibe con una conducción que lleva al depósito de agua.
A partir del castillo señorial medieval, en el siglo XVI se construyó la fortaleza artillera. Tiene planta rectangular con pontentes cubos en cada ángulo, orientados a los puntos cardinales, los dos delanteros albergan sendas casamatas para instalar la artillería de la fortaleza. Los muros, levantados con piedra de sillería de calidad, tienen cinco metros de espesor y se rematan con un parapeto inclinado para desviar los impactos de artillería.
The castle of Berlanga de Duero is located in the town of the same name, belongs to the province of Soria and was built between the fifteenth century, when it served as a stately castle, and the sixteenth when it was transformed into an artillery fortress. The complex began between 1460 and 1480 by order of D. Luis Tovar and Doña María de Guzmán, who ordered the building of the stately castle, to serve as a defensive fortress and family residence, on top of a previous castle located on top of the hill. where the primitive town of Berlanga was located, protected by the wall located at the foot of the hill.
In the year 1512 the new castle was projected and began to be executed, configured as an artillery fortress, for military purposes. This new fortress was adapted both to the steep topography of the land and to the previous construction (the stately medieval castle).
In the construction program of the Tovar lineages and the Dukes of Frías was also the erection of the palace in the inner enclosure of the 12th century wall, adapted to the new ways of life. This palace and its intramural gardens structured on various levels suffered, in 1811, a fire and destruction by Napoleonic troops, so that today only its main façade remains.
During the years 2004-2005, the Junta de Castilla y León undertook a Master Plan, a set of plans and actions aimed at the best conservation, protection and revitalization of this rich heritage. Research studies, consolidation and restoration of the remains of the monument or actions in the environment are included.
The stately castle (15th century) has a rectangular floor plan, in which the circular cube in the southern corner stands out, and the homage tower on the opposite side. Inside, two patios articulate the space: one, at the entrance, simpler, functioned as a parade ground; and the other, designed as a porticoed palatial courtyard, with Gothic columns, has a cistern in the center with a conduit that leads to the water tank.
Starting from the medieval stately castle, the artillery fortress was built in the 16th century. It has a rectangular floor plan with powerful cubes at each angle, oriented to the cardinal points, the two front ones house casemates to install the fortress's artillery. The walls, raised with quality ashlar masonry stone, are five meters thick and are finished off with a sloping parapet to deflect artillery impacts.
