I was walking across Parliament Square Garden in London last week and this chap was standing there, near the road, just as you see him here. The thing that is not immediately apparent from the photo is that this fellow was rather short in stature, perhaps 5' 2" or thereabouts. The scene behind him, which I've obscured here, was a line of buses and coaches and I wondered if he was a driver or guide of some sort. At any rate, whatever he is you can't deny he carries himself with some aplomb and it's what struck me about him and why I found him an interesting subject for my lens.

I saw this beautiful lilac plant on a way nearby. Why wasn't it upright, so that everyone could see how beautiful it was and smell its lovely scent? It probably lacked self-confidence. Maybe it thought there were more gorgeous lilacs around.

Monastère de Labrang, ville de Xiahe, province du Gansu, Chine.
Chaque jour en fin d'après-midi au monastère de Labrang, depuis le chemin de circumambulation (ou kora) qui fait le tour du monastère sur 7 km et qui domine à cet endroit une cour du monastère, on peut assister à la cérémonie du débat dont je vous ai déjà parlé; elle est suivie d'un regroupement de la grosse centaine de moines présents qui se réunissent en demi-cercle pour assister au sermon d'un prédicateur. Si les moines des premiers rangs semblent relativement attentifs et disciplinés, on ne peut en dire autant de ceux assis plus en arrière. La plupart discutent, échangent des confidences, lisent des feuillets qui paraissent très drôles et qu'ils partagent avec leurs voisins...ou s’abîment dans des bâillements à la mesure de leur ennui. On en voit même, et pas nécessairement des plus jeunes, qui envoient des boulettes de papier sur des victimes consentantes que cela semble beaucoup amuser....
Le monastère de Labrang est l'un des six grands monastères de l'école Gelugpa (ou école des Bonnets Jaunes, celle du monastère de montagne dans "Tintin au Tibet") du bouddhisme tibétain, dont le dalaï-lama et le panchen-lama sont les autorités spirituelles. Il est situé dans la ville de Xiahe dans la province chinoise du Gansu, Malgré une fermeture durant 12 ans à partir de 1958 par les autorités chinoises et les répression de 2008 à la suite des troubles au Tibet, le monastère de Labrang est actuellement celui qui accueille le plus grand nombre de moines en dehors de la région autonome du Tibet. Dans ce monastère séjourna durant plusieurs mois l’exploratrice Alexandra David-Néel, la première femme occidentale à avoir atteint Lhassa en 1924.

The decision for the picture of the day fell on this photo with the somewhat chaotic foreground for three reasons.
On the one hand, I would like to dedicate it to all of you with all my heart. The encouragement I received yesterday really gave me back a lot of energy and confidence. I Thank You so much for caring. My gaze is now directed towards the light, even if there is still a lot of chaos to deal with right in front of me.
On the other hand, this chaos in the picture is also a reflection of you. People from half the world with such different characters, life stories and values gather here. And yet, or perhaps because of that, it feels so lively and warm here. This atmosphere never ceases to amaze me.
And thirdly (attention, now comes my "wisdom" of the day again - proof that things are looking up) chaos is such an incredibly valuable part of life and any further development in the universe. And even though we humans are usually tempted to squeeze everything into a system or an order (which is understandable, as it makes everyday life much easier and takes away the complexity of many things), chaos is still the source of all creativity and all passion. Anyone who has ever sunk into the depths of ardent love can understand the latter. In my opinion, more choas is not possible.
And it's good that way.
Die Entscheidung für das Bild des Tages ist aus dreierlei Gründen auf dieses Foto mit dem etwas chaotischen Vordergrund gefallen.
Zum einen möchte ich es von ganzem Herzen Euch allen widmen. Der Zuspruch, den ich gestern erhalten habe hat mir wirklich viel Energie und Zuversicht zurück gegeben. Ich danke Euch wirklich sehr für Eure mentale Unterstützung. Der Blick ist nun zum Licht gerichtet, auch wenn direkt vor mir noch immer einiges an Chaos zu bewältigen ist.
Zum anderen ist dieses Chaos im Bild auch ein Spiegel von Euch. Hier versammeln sich Menschen aus der halben Welt mit so unterschiedlichen Charakteren, Lebensgeschichten und Werten. Und doch, oder gerade deswegen fühlt es sich hier so lebendig und herzlich an. Diese Atmosphäre begeistert mich immer wiede aufs Neue.
Und zum Dritten (Achtung, jetzt kommt wieder meine "Weisheit" des Tages - der Beweiss, dass es aufwärts geht) ist das Chaos ein so unfassbar wertvoller Bestandteil des Leben und jeglicher Weiterentwicklung im Universum. Und auch wenn wir Menschen meist versucht sind alles in ein System oder eine Ordnung zu pressen (was ja auch nachvollziehbar ist, da es den Altag sehr erleichtert und vielem die Komplexität nimmt) so ist das Chaos doch die Quelle jeglicher Kreativität und jeglicher Leidenschaft. Letzteres kann jeder verstehen, der schon einmal in den Tiefen der glühenden Liebe versunken ist. Mehr Chaos geht meiner Meinung nach nicht.
Und das ist auch gut so.

I always tell people that "confidence is key" when shooting street, you are less likely to ever be challenged if you look confident in what you are doing, but in this case it also helps to have a confident subject. Enjoy!

I knew one thing for sure when we left the house, it was going to be a good one, what I didn't know was whether or not we would make it in time. Thankfully, as you can tell, we did indeed make it for the peak color in the sunset. Something that I have realized, is that I often have more confidence in the conditions I see in the weather than I have confidence of the One who made the weather. Should I not have more confidence in God to make a beautiful sunset than to trust a weather forecast which is wrong 90% of the time anyway. I pray that our confidence would rest in Christ rather than the current conditions of life which are ever changing.
