Coney Island, New York

Prior to the 2012 Mermaid Parade, a mermaid carries on a conversation with a homeless man. Many people would be very reluctant to speak with a homeless person, but this mermaid had an upbeat conversation with him. The man's day seemed to be brightened.

 

Despite the man's worn and summer-inappropriate clothing, he patriotically sports an American flag.

 

The Mermaid Parade is my favorite event of the year to photograph. Being all about fun and frivolity, I did not expect to take any serious photos there. Still, this image was my favorite shot of the day.

 

In the Coney Island district of New York City, on 6-21-12.

Wow, hard to believe this got "explored". The sunset was so much more beautiful than the photo.

The Wonder Wheel - Coney Island, NYC. Built in 1920 and 150 feet tall......... the name was a good choice. In 2014 it still retains it's iconic status
