I am deeply saddened and in shock from the attacks that occurred in Paris last night. My condolences to those in Paris and to those who have family or friends who have been killed, injured or affected by those cowardly, indiscriminate acts of terror.

Life is as fleeting as a poppy in the wind.
Though the storm of grief is blowing you are as strong as the poppy that survives the harshest of storms.

Clearly, I drew this piece during a time of grief.
I know that, technically speaking, death is NORMAL...but that does not make it "OK".

As well as going to the boulangerie which you see in the photo, we also dropped by the Mairie (Town Hall) which was just off camera in order to sign the Book of Condolence which has been opened for Mimi, one of our neighbours who died suddenly at the weekend. The Book of Condolence is set outside the main entrance to the Mairie in a desk-type piece of furniture with a glass lid covering the book. The legs of the desk are surrounded by black velvet. If you're from the village and you die then the Mairie is informed and they prepare a Book of Condolence for each person and which people from the village who knew the deceased can come and pay their respects with a message and their name. It's a sad thing to have to do but in its way, if I may describe it as such, a charming village ritual.

I am an avid fan of music festivals and especially electronic music. I feel genuine pain and offer my heartfelt condolences.

George, I'm sad for you, but comforted that your dad's passing over the Rainbow Bridge was a peaceful one. No matter how prepared we are, no matter what our age, losing a parent is painful, and my heart goes out to you.

. . . Condolences to my Cousin Carole, who lost her husband Ray a few weeks ago. Ray was a storyteller, and worked for most of his life for the Michigan DNR. The rose is from my Grand Mother DeVries' garden, now growing in my yard.

" Mary passed away suddenly from a massive stroke. She was in perfect health, a 25 year runner, thin, rarely sick in the 26 years I have known her, and a vegetarian.
She loved all wildlife and did her best to protect them, did her part to protect the earth, was an accomplished photographer, and a kind and gentle soul and the love of my life.
My grief is overwhelming."
