Sony RX100V3

ISO 200 | 24mm | F2.8 | 1/400

Shot taken with the little Sony RX100V3 - Love this camera - it fits in the palm of my hand and thin enough for my pocket. Happy with the Dynamic range and the detail captured 20meg files.

We recieved a ton of snow and well here is Stella back behind the house in it.

I saw this patch of flowers going up the lift and hiked up to them. I didn't imagine the shot would turn out as well as it did.

I made a detailed post about the RC a decade ago and only recently realised that I had slighted its sibling, the RD. It seemed natural to compare them, hence, this family photo. Apologies for the dust on the RC, was surprised that the Photoshop DUST REMOVAL tool was of no help (lol).

Even with a larger RD body, the weight is 470 grams, barely more than a pound.

For a slight increase in size with the RD, what is gained? The lens! F/1.7 rather than f/2.8; six elements rather than five; a standard 49mm filter size rather than 43mm, making it so much easier to locate filters, hoods and lens caps; the aperture display is below the image in the viewfinder window; the RC shows BOTH aperture and shutter speed in the window. I also prefer the film advance lever to be on the top of the camera.

If you need slow shutter speeds, the RD has 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2, which the RC does not.

My sole complaint about both models is the aperture ring placed right against the body. Hopeless to attempt to change it whilst wearing gloves or suffering cold fingers sans gloves.

Both are fabulous walk-around or travel cameras with superb image quality when stopped past f/4. Not bad before that, especially compared to its competitors of 1975.

Brandenburg Gate during the Festival of Lights 2018 #1

The first of a small series of captures from the illuminated Brandenburg Gate. Please forgive the weird format, the Pariser Platz was brimful with people on that night, some were moving, many others weren't, and it just didn't look nice, so I decided to crop it.

The Festival of Lights is a city-wide light show. Each year, for the first two weeks of October, many buildings are illuminated from sunset until midnight, some with proper light shows, like the Brandenburg Gate, others with freeze images or just colours.

Processed in Aurora HDR 2019 and LR.

Spread Love

Distranged Design

Jacob Root's large scale stencil style here takes a more refined appearance, with the wall leaving a flat expanse of orange, the signature grey-scale figure pushed to the edge of the wall. The orange space is filled with the instruction 'Spread Love' in a flowing shadow font, the electric blue matching the hair of the figure to the left. To the right, a bouquet of pink flowers add a further element of colour and more intricate detail.
