Giant Panda Su Lin at the San Diego Zoo on 10/18/08
My DSLR started showing error message (0x58) when I got to the panda exhibit. Couldn't take any photos at all. I had my compact point and shoot with me (to take photos of food and stuff) and I enjoyed the agony of everyone else! It is so hard to take animal photos with regular compact point and shoot. You have no control! You have no idea where you're focusing. You have no idea what's going on! Everything is preset. It was so frustrating and so not fun. I pretty much lost desire to shoot.
After I got home, I wiggled the inside of my DSLR and it started working again. What was all the dead weight I carried on my back all day?

An adorable ross (I think) "compact" I scored at the T-town flea market for cheap.
Best mother's day present I've ever given.
For reference, I believe those are 26" tires.
Also, it's a Front Freewheel bike, so the bottom bracket freewheels, rather than the rear hub. Not the best design, but fun and exciting and extra unique.
Blood compact (in Spanish: Pacto de sangre) was a ritual in the Philippines where tribes would cut their wrist and pour their blood into a cup filled with liquid and drink each other's blood as part of the tribal tradition to seal a friendship, a pact or treaty, or to validate an agreement.
An example of the blood compact was called Sandugo, which took place in the island of Bohol in the 16th century. The ritual was made between the Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna the chieftain of Bohol. A blood compact was also made between the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan and Rajah Humabon the chieftain of Cebu.

The Cadillac Catera is a compact executive car marketed from 1997 to 2001 model years by Cadillac over a single generation in the United States, Canada and GCC. As a rebadged variant of the Opel Omega B, the Catera was manufactured by Opel in Rüsselsheim, Germany, and was underpinned by GM's V-body platform.
The model's engine was a 200 hp (149 kW) L81 54° DOHC V6 manufactured in England at GM's Ellesmere Port facility, using an FR layout. The GM 4L30-E automatic transmission was manufactured at GM's plant in Strasbourg, France.
In Europe, the platform underpinned the Opel Omega, marketed as an executive car. Rebadged variants of the Omega were marketed worldwide. In addition to the Opel version, the car was sold in Great Britain as the Vauxhall Omega and South America as the Chevrolet Omega. As with the Rekord which preceded it, re-engineered versions of the Omega were manufactured in Australia from 1988 as the Holden Commodore (and its derivatives) since 1999. Commodore-based cars were in turn exported to South America as the Chevrolet Omega and to the Middle East as the Chevrolet Lumina.

Shall I make a long story short? In 1991 my dear bandmates and I made record... er a cassette, actually. We sold it at our gigs, and to family and friends. Two of the songs got a little airplay on our local NPR station. The band played from 1990 to 1993, and it was a seminal experience in my career. The friendships formed with my Akoustik Brothers and Sister are lifelong and unique.
Recently, (hell, months ago!) My Brother, biological brother, that is, started asking me if Oval Window was ever re-recorded onto cd. I did not know, but later asked my Akoustik Brother Link. We have all gone our separate ways, and while we live within forty miles of each other, we rarely see each other. We talk on the phone a few times a year. Anyway, he had just happened to have a friend make a copy for him. Last week I went to my old hometown of Denton to pick up a copy from him. We also jammed a little. (I am going to have to do that more often. I have hardly improvised since joining Fort Worth Symphony full-time, and I miss it.)
So, inspired by My Brother's persistent interest in our music, and the wonderful timeless friendships, and my own wonder at how "that old stuff still sounds pretty good!", I spent many hours over the last few days suing my photo and photoediting skills. Back when we made that music, I never would have imagined this other, visual, creative outlet in my life. I hope that the refurbished packaging will make a nice little gift to my Brothers and Sister, both kinds, in honor of our bonds.
