This KHS road bike was my commuting bike for the past year, but I traded it in for a KHS Urban Xtreme bike. It is a lot like a mountain bike, but has road gears as well as more clearance for bigger tires.
Winter bicycle commuting gloves. They started off as ordinary blaze-orange hunting gloves, Thinsulate insulated and water resistant though not entirely waterproof. On the left glove I've added "Lightweights Power Reflectors" -- iron-on reflective trim, die-cut in small ovals and circles. I routinely add wide reflective tape to cycling gear, but it can be hard to cleanly cut and apply small amounts of that. These pre-cut pieces are a lot more convenient, and appear to be a good grade of material. Seen here after several trips through the washing machine this fall, still nice and bright.
During my final semester as an undergraduate student at Boston University, I opted to take a basic photography class in the College of Communications. I took the class despite knowing that I was unlikely to learn anything new in the class in terms of basic technical skills like aperture and shutter speed, but I knew that if I didn't do something that would require me to go out and shoot, I would end up dedicating no time to photography whatsoever as my engineering senior design project would likely consume most of my time.
Over the next couple weeks, I'll post some of the photos I took as part of that basic photography course, including some of the photos I submitted as part of my final project portfolio.
This particular photograph was made as part of a depth of field assignment in which we were required to shoot at f/16 and f/2 (or thereabouts).

one of the first several shots I took with the legendary Pentax 43mm Limited walking to the bus from my old workplace. Was also trying out for the first the in-camera effects of the K-3, this one being (obviously) hi-contrast B&W. Just stumbled across this one and decided I liked it after all. :)
This is often my first stop on my daily commute to the computer room. Breakfast! Surrounded by dragonflies, bunnies and a few strange plants. I picked the silk lilies to complement the lamp. I did not expect them to light up like you see them here. When the light is on they look like they are glowing on with a light of ther own.
Commuting, bison style...
We were almost out to West Yellowstone but we had one bison encounter left. Along the left side of the road a mother and calf were trotting, keeping up a good pace. As we drew abreast they slowed to check the traffic, crossed at a shallow diagonal, then resumed the fast trot on the right side.
Imagination says they were returning home to Montana, part of their regular daily commute to work in the park to being the "park service bison" :^)

June 13th, 2013 - 44 Quiet Nights, Day 15 - Grand Teton National Park to somewhere in Idaho with a drive through Yellowstone to look for the bison.
45+ minute commute with a few miles of trails on the way to work, and nearly two hours on the way home hitting many more trails.
We commuted around KL on the newly-built MRT line. We went around for eateries and a bresh of fresh air (figuratively).
Using this camera was quite the gamble, since the settings on the camera is extremely limited. But the results were satisfactory.
I had to convert to black and white, because the colors produced were so bad, it's nauseating.
Shot on the Panasonic C-225EF + Kodak Colorplus 200, box speed.
My bag has treated me well for many, many years. I'm thinking of retiring it from daily, all-weather use, and replacing it with a rack bag.
Many who work outside of San Francisco commute to the City each day on the "BART" (Bay Area Rapid Transit System) and pass the time by working on their computers.

Um, can I get an award for "Best Commute Ever"?
Although admittedly, it's not always perfect... cold, near-freezing weather, rain, flat tires, smelly stagnant water at some points... but it sure beats waiting in traffic on the 880, that's for sure.

I can sit and bemoan a loss of creativity, and fail to take my camera with me everywhere I go, or I can make the effort to start taking photos again. And so, this morning, I have, taking my trusty little Canon M100 and pancake lens, which makes me wonder whether or not the big camera will ever realistically come out again, save for if I get back into more strobist style shots.
This morning, therefore is a homage to the commute, and possibly a bit of additional exploration around New Street Station and, unusually, a short video. Yesterday was Cat’s dad’s birthday and, in the evening, we were looking through her nan’s old photo albums which her aunt had lent to us. Naturally some photos predated 35mm film, but the vast majority were clearly from more point and shoot style film cameras.
Yes, the fashion and style, from a modern perspective, appears to be incredibly dated and unfashionable, but people seem to be having more genuine fun in the past; less of the duck face pouting and posed photos. We also wondered whether the fact that you would, literally, point and shoot, had more to do with the honest nature of the photos.
Despite their names, modern point and shoots are nothing of the sort, waiting for the lens to extricate itself from its contortionist home within the body, the on-board computer to fire up and lock focus, before inevitably the person moves and you need to reshoot. Under the bed I have a plethora of photos from college, all taken on disposable camera, that whilst lacking in technical quality have a degree of more meaning for it.
My new, smaller, camera is a bit more honest to these older times, especially when it has a prime lens on it. Having previously put the time in to develop a black and white photo style that works for me, maybe it’s time to get back into a more spontaneous type of photography and use automatic mode and just straight to jpeg. If, or course, I can bear the lack of control…
