2012 was a great cycling year for me filled with a number of firsts...
My first 5000 mile year. I finished with 5311.
My first Perfect commuting year. I rode my bike to work every day, 217 round trips, and that was the bulk of my mileage.
I rode my first TOSRV in May. It would have made more sense to ride it in HS in the 70's when I lived in Cincinnati. Day 1 was a beauty. Day 2 was um, well... wet.
Some other cycling highlights for the year...
In August I rode the C&O canal towpath and GAP trail with my niece and nephew . In October about 150 miles of the ACA's Allegheny Mountain Loop in VA and WV.
Right now I don't have any firm plans for 2013 other than to continue my commuting streak and try to push the mileage up towards 6000.
Suddenly there is a commute to a real office, because the company has been growing this whole time. There are co-workers, and coffee, and snacks that somebody brings in and leaves on the break room table.

I never stopped admiring these monster trucks - they are not only bigger then most European trucks, but also nicer and cleaner (I think their drivers are often proud of their vehicle - put more lights on them, etc). / Mindig is nagyon tetszettek ezek a hatalmas amerikai teherautók - nemcsak nagyobbak az európaiaknál, de szebbek és tisztábbak is (szerintem a sofÅ‘rök kimondottan büszkék járművükre, pl. feldÃszÃtik extra fényforrásokkal, stb.).
I took these shots a July morning during my daily commute - over the previous 2 years I got used to the 60 minutes drive every morning - I listened to the radio, and later audiobooks while driving. The pictures were meant as a memory, since by then we were preparing to move from Ontario.
Egy nyári reggelen készÃtettem ezeket a képeket, ahogy otthonról elindultam munkába, egész a munkahelyemre érkezésig. Ekkorra az egyórás vezetéshez volt már két évem hozzászokni - elÅ‘bb rádiót, majd audiobook-ot hallgattam. A megörökÃtés emléknek kellett - ekkor már készültünk a végül a vártnál késÅ‘bb fél év múlva bekövetkezett költözésünkre.
Commuting lives photo project. Commuting to work each day can be a challenging experience and daily I meet hundreds of people, pledged at the same times and same trains.
It's interesting to distinguish how each of us spends these moments differently during the travel: there's who sleeps recovering energy, who reads a book, who is looking forward to the arrival, who divulges his or her feelings in front of a friend but above all, and here it is clear the cultural change occurred in recent years, there's who prefers alienating from it all using their smartphone.
The photograpy raises the curiosity that each of us possesses to a higher level, making the photographer able to analyse the subject even before shooting.
I have spent many of these trips between Monza and Milan to better understand these elements of humanity among the passengers: facial and body expressions, interactions between people, style and good or bad habits.

Commute 3 (3.8.11)
This flat, 42-mile commute offers plenty of starts in which it's important to get up to speed quickly due to car traffic, as well as a good number of long straightaways where you can get into a good rhythm with your ride partners. These tires performed fantastically for me. They felt fast and were easy to accelerate, both when already rolling at a good clip and when starting from a dead stop.
Today, I rode them at 60 psi. Next, I'll try them on the same commute at 55 just to see if there is any difference in perceived speed and comfort. And, I plan to try them on the hillier commute (~38 miles, ~2200 feet of climbing) to get a better feel for how they climb and descend.
