Martin Place is one of the most significant central city streets in Sydney, running in an east-west direction and being home to a number of significant institutions, including Commonwealth Bank, the Reserve Bank of Australia, Macquarie Bank, Channel 7 (one of the three major commercial television networks in Australia) and Sydney's main GPO post office. These buildings at the western end date back to the 1860s, but there are also a number of very contemporary buildings.
