Capitol Reef National Park is one of the lessor visited parks in Utah but in my opinion still very scenic.

When we stopped at the visitor center, I saw this cool picture of this old barn up on one of the walls. I thought it made a great composition so I had to capture it.

Luckily it's only a mile or 2 down from the visitor center at the Gifford Homestead.

Per the National Park service website... The original home was built in 1908 by polygamist Calvin Pendleton. He and his family occupied it for eight years. The original house had a combined front room/kitchen and two small bedrooms. An outside ladder accessed two upstairs bedrooms. Pendleton also constructed the barn and smokehouse, as well as the rock walls near the house and on the mesa slopes above it.

For Macro Monday, Aug 14

Theme: high key

I'm deeply saddened by the events over the weekend and felt the need to speak of love in a visual art form, so I combined the MM theme with the message.

Love,

History and luxury combined. The Algonquin Building is located right in the heart of the downtown Saratoga. This elegant landmark with the Victorian Saratoga charm of North Broadway was originally constructed in 1893 as luxury apartments. The building has recently been completely renovated and revitalized, “The Atrium”- gives it a character and charm that is second to none, and which cannot be found elsewhere in Saratoga. We would love for you to be one of the first to call this historic building home.510 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866

Just two rings which I've pieced together for the photo. Actually three rings, because the plain golden one consists of two combined rings, kind of a double ring. The other ring with those tiny droplets / beads going all around is made of silver. I like to use both together, so I photographed them together, placed onto the silver side of a gold and silver coated piece of cardboard which once was used in a food wrapping. This is an image taken last night, but apparently I had too much time today, because I still tried a few focus stacks with different light and with the rings on top of a glossy black tile, but liked none in the end. So back to yesterday's image which I've processed in DXO PhotoLab 4 (sharpness, micro contrast and denoising with Deep Prime only), then in Analog Efex for the vignette and a very subtle matte look, and finally in Luminar AI, where I'd enhanced a few details (in the painting mask), added a very subtle glow, and slightly brightened the lower part of the silver ring with the dodge and burn tool.

Happy Macro Monday, Everyone, stay safe and healthy!

This is a combination of two captures taken one after the other. The bottom half was captured at 30 seconds smoothing out the whipped up water from the intense wind at sunset with the passing front, and I liked the 30 seconds exposure, but also want to roughly freeze the motion of the clouds, as they were extremely pretty there in the sky to, but moving very fast. Having the 9 Stop ND on for the long exposure, I did not want to waste time taking the ND filter off, so just quickly changed the aperture to f/4 and then captured the scene at 4 seconds. Thus the top half of the exposure (the sky) is at 4 seconds.

Cloister of the Cistercian Monastery of Ferreira de PantĂłn.

Built in the fifteenth century, Renaissance style, with rectangular plant, it is structured in two bodies: ground floor made of granite with half-point arches with capitals of classic tradition and upper floor combining stone and wood. On one side is preserved the tomb of Countess Fronilde FernĂĄndez, lady in charge of the annexation of this monastery to the order of the Cistercian, in the year 1175.

Well, as we just ate selfmade buns I thought I should post once more this weekend to water your mouths.

These are also the pictures that lured me back into photography after a half year long pause. It was refreshing for the mind and body I would say. :)

Happy Sunday to all of you!

I have two main passions in my life, my photography and my love of the game of golf. It is very very seldom that I combine the two but here perhaps I had an opportunity. This was taken on my iPhone on a foggy morning on the golf course where I am a member. For once I really would have rather been out with my camera in a woodland somewhere than on the course with my clubs but I tried to make the best of it with this phone shot.

The huge nose on this SD60M, combined with the postage stamp sized UP shield, demonstrates why fans begged UP to bring back the streamliner wings in the 1990s.

Now that I have the building image its time to see what I can do with it. I combined the building image with various other images to see if anything came to light. The fireworks was one image I really wanted to play with - we'll see where that goes, but within the combined image was one little piece toward the center that I wanted to explore further. I added some ripple filtering to the fireworks and then a little meadow and some Sweet Peas, the color reminds me of a persimmon. Done for now.

The modern combined harvester, or simply combine, is a versatile machine designed to efficiently harvest a variety of grain crops. The name derives from its combining four separate harvesting operations—reaping, threshing, gathering, and winnowing—into a single process. Among the crops harvested with a combine are wheat, rice, oats, rye, barley, corn (maize), sorghum, soybeans, flax (linseed), sunflowers and rapeseed. The separated straw, left lying on the field, comprises the stems and any remaining leaves of the crop with limited nutrients left in it: the straw is then either chopped, spread on the field and ploughed back in or baled for bedding and limited-feed for livestock.

As soon as spring arrives, the sheep invade the foreshore to come and taste the halophilic plants. The sea flora charged with salt and iodine, combined with the long displacements, gives this so particular taste to the flesh of the lambs, very appreciated by the experts.

Taking the sheep to graze in the foreshore is a local tradition attested since at least the 15th century. Lambing takes place in the sheepfold during the winter, although some farmers schedule births in the spring to avoid supply shortages. For the first two or three months after birth, the lambs are fed mainly on their mother's milk. The animals are taken out in March after the high tides of the equinox and stay in the bay for a minimum of two and a half months, extending into the autumn.

I just have 2 things to say!

This is my first *tracked* Milky Way panorama. It's composed of 7 vertical frames shot while the mount tracked the motion of the stars. The tracking allowed me to shoot much longer exposures without star trailing -- for this one they were 60s exposures. Last year on this exact date I shot a Milky Way pano here with just camera and tripod, no tracking. In that case I used 20s exposures and even then there was some minor trailing. With the longer exposures allowed by the tracking, the Milky Way appears much brighter, with richer color and more detail. Of course, since the camera is tracking the sky, the foreground is somewhat blurred. I also took some foreground shots with the tracking turned off, and will blend those with the tracked sky shots at some point so that the foreground will be sharper. But for now, since the blurring isn't too bad when zoomed out like this, I took the lazy approach and just combined and processed the 7 tracked images.

There was a lot less water in the pond this year than last!

The sky starts to brighten at about 4:45am in mid March, so I got up at 2am to get to the site and get everything set up, polar aligned, focused, framed, etc. Started shooting by about 3:50am (yawn).

7 Years ago we find CMQ 3812 North hauling the Pan Am OCS from Northern Maine Jct to BVJ, then west across the Moosehead and Sherbrooke Subs to Farnham, Quebec.

At Farnham a VTR GP40-2 was added and the train ran down to East Deerfield where the VTR power was cut off and the train continued back to Maine.

The intent of the trip was to open up a new gateway, with Pan Am's successful bid to get trackage rights to White River Jct. Along with VTR's Washington County RR and the CMQ, the plan was to reopen the embargoed Saint-Guillaume Sub which hadn't seen a train since the MMA days, to connect with CN at Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec.

The plan was for freight to be interchanged with CN then, run to Farnham, down to Newport, then to White River Jct over WACR, to Pan Am at WRJ, then to East Deerfield and points south. Ideally, competing with SLR, NECR, CP and to some extent CSX's routing. However things never panned out.

The following year Fortress sold CMQ to CP which had little interest in the plan. Pan Am was sold in 2020 to CSX and taken over in 2022. Effectively putting an end to the proposed route.

This photograph was taken from the balcony of our condo on Orange Beach back in March...earlier in the day, a storm front moved through and brought a decent amount of rain but mostly just kept everyone off the beach. As the front started to move out, the change was nearly immediate...as seen in this photo! The front on the left and the clear blue skies on the right; the gray colorless ocean on the left and the amazing blue ocean water on the right; and empty beach on the left and beachgoers coming back out on the right. The difference is clearly visible as a split right down the middle of my photo...unhappy beach vs beautiful beach! Enjoy mother nature at her best...

Three bracketed photos were taken with a handheld Nikon D7200 and combined with Photomatix Pro to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.

An institution from yesteryear and a classic New Jersey Diner. Unfortunately, it has been closed for years and not sure what the future holds for Tom's. I have passed this Diner many times and always want to stop and capture some views; I did the other day because of some Pumpkins decorating the front door. Well, I still don't have what I want in the diner but I did like the sign with its crystal blue sky. I did a bit of wavy processing and when I combined the layers with "Difference" this amazing gradient tone emerged in place of the blue sky! The graphic appeal was just too much! I also layered back and blended in the neon tubes to their "straight" form, albeit a bit juiced up with the saturation slider but probably less than you think.
