Abstract: Although exosomes were first described as cellular waste in the late 1980s, their role in cellular communication has been revealed by recent studies. In addition to components such as DNA, RNA, and protein, it is thought that it may also be associated with the immune system, as it contains tetraspanins such as CD9, CD81, and major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules. Therefore, it has been seen as a new source for immunotherapy. Immunotherapy is one of the methods used for colon cancer, which is one of the most common and deadly cancers, where traditional treatments are insufficient. In our study, we first performed exosome isolation from the CaCo-2 cell line, then lymphocyte (T lymphocyte) activation by the exosome. Then, we counted the activated lymphocytes (10,000, 20,000, 40,000, and 80,000 cells) and applied them to the CaCo-2 cell line in vitro. After 48 hours, we performed viability (MTT), antioxidant (TAC), oxidant (TOS) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) analyzes. Exosome characterization was demonstrated with TEM, SEM, and AFM images. According to our results, it was seen that the lymphocytes activated by exosomes act at similar rates with the lymphocytes activated by IL-2. In the groups given 80,000 cells, a significant decrease was observed in the viability and antioxidant level of the cancer line, while an increase in oxidant and lactate levels was observed. The tumor-suppressive properties of exosomes obtained from immune cells have been demonstrated in the literature. We have successfully produced this study with our own experience and knowledge of the literature. We have successfully produced this study with our own experience and knowledge of the literature.

Beardsworth celebrated Dress in Blue Day and National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month throughout the month of March. Employees helped raised over $500 for the Blue Note Fund.

Barbara H. writes:

"The Beardsworth Blue Crew planned a series of month-long events to educate, support, remember and celebrate that started with each employee receiving a blue package of office supplies when they arrived at work on Friday, March 2.

Other activities included:

Blue Wednesdays

Employees were offered the option of wearing blue jeans to the office if they would wear an Ask Me Why I’m Wearing Blue button. Anyone wearing blue, a button and making a donation, received an entry to our finale drawings. A healthy/blue treat was provided each Wednesday.

Surprise Fridays

Each Friday in March, one of our executives offered a gift of time/talent to be raffled off. Gifts included a tarot card reading, custom dessert and a movie gift package.

Education

Daily Blue Notes were sent with a fact about colon cancer. At the finale, everyone responding to a survey based on the daily facts and the informative material on display was entered into a special finale drawing.

Blue Plate Special Finale

Our Blue March ended with a blue plate lunch on Friday, March 30. We provided a salad bar and employees donated healthy toppings. Lunch concluded with the finale drawings for five gift cards."

The Ethicon Endo-Surgery Sedation team participated in the 2012 Dress In Blue Day on March 2nd. The message was sent to all employees, a raffle was held and informational cards were passed out as a reminder of the importance of screening and talking with others about colorectal cancer. With the help of their Cincinnati colleagues, more than $1,500 was raised for Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA).

Kelly, a stage IV colon cancer survivor since 2006, wore all blue on March 2, 2012 for Dress in Blue Day.

"Cecil County Health Department in Elkton, Maryland celebrated Dress in Blue Day 2012 by having employees wearing a sea of blue pose for photographs. Earlier in the week, staff also received a invite beckoning employees to "say hello to my little friend" that featured a humorous, welcoming photo of our

smiling nurse and colorectal cancer program coordinator with her model colon reminding folks "don't forget, get screened!"
