Cologne Cathedral inside
THIS UNIQUE PLACE... is the topic for Sunday January 22nd, 2017 Group Our Daily Challenge
I made this shot already last year and the year before, with my first and my second camera. I could not resist to do that again. The differences are impressive. The comparison of this three photographs you can visit shortly in my blog on www.shoot-to-catch.de.
I don't know if there ever was Gold in Cologne, but if there was, they must have put it into this into this bridge. When I got close, I could see there is is another kind of gold on the bridge. It's full of padlocks hung by lovers. I have never ever seen so many padlocks in one place, as on this bridge. It's from one end to the other.

Blue hour with the Hohenzollern bridge in cologne, and the cologne dom.
Please note, the long lines at the bridge is a train crossing.

The cologne cathedral and the Hohenzollern Bridge at night. A scene I decided to use for documenting my progress as a photographer. Every year I try to come here for making a shot. Same subject, same position. This is the forth version. In contrast to the last years variation not as a HDR.

For a long time I wanted to photograph the Hohenzollernbridge in Cologne with a view of Cologne Cathedral itself. The opportunity arose in mid-December. There was even a big hole in the cloud cover for a few minutes so that I had "my" moment here.

A side-chapel in Kölner Dom (Cologne cathedral) - the Gothic Cathedral that was built from the 13th to the 16th century but then not actually completed. That didn't happen until the 19th century with the advent of Romanticism and its love for the Middle Ages. The cathedral was severely damaged during the Second World War and restored after that in the 1950s.
This chapel, Johanneskapelle, is one of the few places in the cathedral that preserves real, Medieval wall paintings - it was heavily restored in modern times, that is around 1900, but the original painting dates to the 1330s and depicts the Crucifixion and John the Baptist and Saint Lawrence (which means that the St John in the name of the chapel is referring to John the Baptist).
