Nopalera cocida por las altas temperaturas del flujo piroclastico del Volcán de Colima (10 de Julio) pero ya retoñando casi 2 meses después. Como el Ave Fenix.. renaciendo casi de las cenizas.

El 1 de Mayo 2015 salí a la caza de la Vía Láctea a las 4am empece alejarme de las luces de la ciudad subiendo por población de Cuahutemoc la Luna se encontraba en fase creciente lo cual dificultaba hacer buenas tomas al cielo estrellado entonces decidí recorrer los caminos que llevan a Montitlan mas alejado de las luces de la ciudad y un poco desilusionado por la claridad de la noche. Pero justo antes de las 6am para mi sorpresa la Luna ya se había ocultado y por cerca de 20min antes del amanecer dejó apreciar el manto estelar a todo su esplendor fue ahí como logre capturar este hermoso paisaje sobre los cielos Colimotes.
Colima Volcanic Complex at the western end of the Mexican Volcanic Belt is the most active andesitic volcano in Mexico. The complex consists of a
northern, inactive summit cone (Nevado de Colima) and a southern, active cone (Fuego de Colima).
Colima volcano has been active for about five million years. There have been frequent historical eruptions from the summit crater. Pyroclastic flows, vertical ash columns and lava flows are characteristic of eruptions at the volcano. About 300,000 people live within 40 km of Colima, making it potentially one of the world's most dangerous volcanoes.

Big Bend National Park, Texas. Renee and I ascended via the Pinnacles trail, saw two birds in the Boots Spring trail and descended via the Laguna Meadows trail.
We faced wind gusts of ~20 MPH going up but once we got to the Boots Spring trail the wind calmed down and the birds started to sing.
This 10+ mile, 7 hour trek is one of the most difficult hikes we have taken to see a regular nesting bird species in the ABA area.

Street vendors like this one are a common site in Colima selling Tuba, a mildly alcoholic drink made from palm sap taken from tapping the young expanded flowers of the coconut. The drink is dispensed from his gourd like container. The two girls are about to drink their Tuba.
Tuba origins:
This tradition originated in the Philippines and was handed down through the generations. It then arrived in Mexico by means of the Manila Galleon.
When the Manila galleon arrived on the Colima coast in the 16th century in search of lime that was so necessary to prevent scurvy among its passengers, it disembarked groups of Philippine workers, who came to grow sugar cane and rice in the fields of the region.
The exchange of customs between both countries that had both been taken over by Spain soon bore fruit. Chocolate, tamales, tortillas pozole (a thick, pork based broth) were sent from Mexico and from the Philippines came, among other things, shawls and the tuba. This term comes from the Philippine and means a nutritious, refreshing drink which is an extract of the coconut palm flower.

Texas - entire journey logged 7500 miles on my SUV from Florida to the top of Sequoia National Forest and back. But the main interest was to get the Colima to finish off getting all of the lower 48 warblers off my life list. It was a ten mile hike we endured but started seeing Colima's at two and a half miles up. We saw a dozen in total and heard several more on our way up and back. We slept in the vehicle at the base of the mountain since no rooms were available anywhere near Big Bend National Park. But had a great pork-chop dinner at the lodge in Big Bend that Carl won't forget about. Nor will I.
